Most Overpriced Designer?

How and why is this jacket $24,000AUD ($16,000USD) ?? Is this really the price of a Chanel jacket these days?

CHANEL
Those are the prices…
You can still get a classic jacket from their non-runway collection for 6500€ but that’s it.

Tbh, this collection is probably my favorite ever by Virginie. When I was sent the prices of the pieces I was lurking by my S.A. I was shocked even though at this point I’m used to it. 1 jacket/dress was 11K and the sweaters were 4/5K. Ok it’s cashmere but no…

But funny enough, the bags are well priced. Yes, the classics are still 10K but the rest is good. I think everybody assume all the bags are 10K anyway lol

The first Cruise (station train) and Metiers D'Art (Rue Cambon staircase) show after Karl's passing and the Hollywood one (Spring 2021) were her best.
This Fall Winter 2024 is very inoffensive and barely there in terms of style and proposition if you ask me. The shearling coats and looks gave me a really strong H&M winter line.

That look is one of the blandest one and the overall price (eur) is insane:
- Jacket: 13900
- Sweater: 4200
- Skirt: 5650
- Bag: 9800
- Belt: 1890
- Boots: 2500
- Earrings: 980
- Choker: 1280
- Necklace: 1180
- Long necklace: 2830
TOTAL: a whopping 43230 bucks.

The most shameful is definitely the fashion jewelry: 2k for gold colored copper that will tarnish after a rainy day is just shameful.

I'm sorry but I disagree, 5500 for a seasonal mini bag is anything but well priced.
Mini bag like this should cost max 4000, even if it's from CHANEL. It's literally a big layer of caviar leather folded up, it does not even have the stitched quilting...even lower production cost.

They were probably her best but my favorite ever from her is FW2014…Precisely because it’s her most inoffensive. It’s mostly separates, the color palette is not horrid and her dresses aren’t as atrocious as usual. Even her denim is passable.
I like the short shearling coat, there’s a kind of long white tweed dress/cape with a slit in the middle that are kind of great. And I saw one big bag at like 5900€. The deauville knitwear is also fantastic.

Tbh, Chanel is the most overpriced brand around but in some ways, I think it’s also one of those brand where the logic sometimes disappear when it comes to shopping.

It’s totally ridiculous and irrational. And I think it’s the beauty of the brand. The most I have ever spend on 1 single item of Clothing was at Chanel. It was totally irrational. Last year, I saw a shearling jacket at YSL, the same price as that said Chanel piece and I found every other excuse to not purchase it even if I really loved it.

Chanel is never really worth it but it’s totally worth it at the same time.

they can really put their price tag on any outrageous but covetable item and it will sell. thats why they need a visionary on top of their non-runway staples.

The prices in general of the new Valentino collection are absurd IMO. They're trying to appeal to his old customer base, who were used to paying half of what the price point is now, for basically the same designs?

Seriously, everything seemed overpriced to me. Maybe their main goal is to sell his bags and the expensive clothes are to make those seem more appropriately priced

From the new Valentino collection. $20000 for 100% viscose lmao

It may be a label error, because my version of the website (at 14,000 €) claims it's "Peau de mouton (100 % viscose) with Habutai lining (100% soie)".
How come something can be shearling and 100% viscose at the same time ?
Do they make artificial shearling from viscose now ?

Giving CHANEL a run for their money with this one: 3k for glass pearls, enamel, fabric and brass...and also the evergreen "Made in Italy" even if Valentino outsources all embroiderying activities in India (Chanakya) like Balmain and Dior.
If it was CHANEL it would be price upon request LOL

The “V” looks ridiculous on that petal

In defense of the pricing of this collection, there hasn't been any price increases. It's pretty consistent with what Valentino demanded during the PPP era, which corresponds to its positioning as the ready-to-wear branch of a couture house. When those heavily embroidered gowns arrive in stores, they'll probably sell for 15-30k.

Yes, Valentino has always been very expensive…
That’s why I’m very curious to see how those very vintage inspired pieces from Michele will perform.
I think they have been quite consistent with PPP even if the sales decreased a little bit in the last year.

The average Gucci by Michele customer, the one supposed to respond to this, wasn’t paying Valentino prices.

For what is worth, Valentino has always marketed as a grown people’s brand.

The accessories are weak…

Genuine question, but why has the price of luxury shoes (and accessories to some extent) increased only slightly over the last ten years, but the price of the clothes has increased astronomically? It makes no sense to me.

The RTW of any major luxury brand is always the lowest performing and smallest margin of sales, yet instead of the brands making the pricing more alluring so that they can attract more clientele and drive sales, it keeps going up and up and up to the point now where RTW is almost impossible to sell, even to the top 1%.

And then you have these CEO's scratching their heads at why the RTW doesn't sell? Really?

The price point right now of RTW is ridiculous. I look at Dior Men for example and see this stuff and it makes me so sad that this is what Dior has become. And they have the AUDACITY to write something like this :

"Celebrating the House's heritage and inventiveness, the new creations by Kim Jones add touches of audacity to all looks. These objects of desire, combining elegance and functionality, reflect the timeless modernity of Dior style."

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
