Most Overpriced Designer?

Rochas collections are just... over $30K(or even $40K+++) for a dress.

yes and its RTW...i mean they might as well make it couture:shock:

Juicy Couture - I don't understand how those tacky tracksuits cost so much; it looks like something from Target but just with the Juicy emblem on it :|

Good point, Sayan and Arturo. I always think and suggest to others to think in terms of % markup not in monetary terms.

Andro - Margiela gets plenty of coverage... in right magazines (btw, I fail to see a point between editorial coverage and garment price).

Maybe he meant, that they don't pay for heavy advertising and so on - which is what ads huge mark-ups for companies like Versace, i'm sure, with Halle Berry and Madonna modeling and the ads going in a wide variety of magazines. So, companies who don't, don't have to charge that extra lot for advertising.

But also, someone pointed out on another thread - an extremely commercial designer can buy the same luxurious, high-end fabric that a very niche, independent designer can at a much cheaper price than the independent because they buy in huge quantities. So they indies sometimes have to charge more.

No Roberto Cavalli? I don't understand how that man justifies the $2,000 price tag on most of his jeans.

Hermes for sure.
not necessarily. i usually constitute overpriced with something of poor quality being sold for an exorbitant amount. hermès products are all extremely well made, usually by hand, using the finest materials. it's all very high priced, but not really overpriced.

I saw a $910 Jil Sander t shirt the other day. It was a kind of a mesh material, not cotton and had a little applique detail. But I can't see that justifying the exorbitant price.
LMAO! Horrible! You can one of their jackets nearly! i love Jil Sander jackets!

I saw a plain black, ribbed T-shirt from Chanel- for $1000.00 :ninja: I mean honestly- it had a tiny 2 cm wide black metal chanel logo sewn to the bottom corner- but other than that just a plain T-shirt

Emanuel Ungaro. The prices are CRAZY, I tell you. There was an article today in the Urban section of the papers (it's a special that comes with the papers every Thursday and it focuses on what's hip and cool and trendy - read: and expensive) and it was about how wrap dresses are coming back into vogue. And then on these two pages are pictures of nine models wearing wrap dresses from both local and international brands. One them is a model sporting a wrap dress by Emanuel Ungaro with ruffles and printed with black patches, white patches, and blue patches on a red background. It's somewhat tacky and reminds me of a clown, but the caption states its price as SGD5,740 - which is about USD3,376  This price was completely far-fetched compared to two of the only other branded wrap dresses featured - there was a very elegant maroon silk wrap gown by BCBG for only SGD629 (which would be about USD370) and a Jean-Paul Gaultier () wrap dress (featuring a very pretty blue, pink and beige pattern on a green background) with a navy raffia trim costing SGD1269 (which is about USD746).

Crazy!

Is there anyone really buy those overpriced stuffs? I know I am not. But when my wife told me she bought a pair of plastic Chanel earrings for US$100, I just went...WHAT...? (and the metal thing went lose on one of the earrings the second times she took it off. She went to Chanel to fix it and they just put crazy-glue on to fix it)...

Overpriced is an understatement

John Galliano menswear is HIDEOUSLY overpriced. I brought some of the cinch-fronted rodeo leg jeans a couple of seasons back and the cinch broke the first time I wore them. Cheap, cheap manufacture. Printed cotton t-shirts for 200£? Do me a favour! Westwood Man t's are infinately more fun and a fraction of that price. I know Andreas is a bit of a loose cannon fronting her menswear but you cant grumble at the prices by and large.

Prada prices are ridiculous too, given the design. Nothing special to be fair - you're better off buying Miu Miu in my opinion.

Raf Simons is very reasonable and you get quality - same with Kim Jones...oh and all the Yohji bashers are right - it is fiendishly expensive but I LOVE the look and am SO willing to pay for his designs - have you ever seen them close up? Lovely.... :D :D

I really am getting into Raf. And I love Kim Jones! Yes! Miu Miu has more edge I believe. JG has hot stuff but you know you're bacially paying for the show.

Hermes. They have some lovely, high quality things, but I don't think that some of the stuff is worth nearly as much as they charge.

i think the brand evisu is overly priced. $200 for a fruit of the loom t-shirt, and a swiggley line painted on it. dior is pretty expensive, but the leather goods i believe are worth the price. I have a leather wallet of theirs, that i paid an arm and a leg for, and it still looks brand new after a year of use. i am not a fan of their new line though. the fall collection of purses with the big "CD" on it looks really tacky.

I saw some of those Longchamp bags - you know, the ones all those girls take to uni.
The bag looks like it is made from some sort of material like those Prada sports bags that were big in the 90's with leather handles.
Anyway the bag itself is not even that big and they are asking $250 Australian for it! I thought this was ridiculous considerring you can get these kind of bags (the material type anyway) free with magazines or very cheaply anyway!

I don't know how you could justify spending that much on such crappy quality... and they do not look strong enough to carry uni text books either!

Dior and Chanel are overpriced for some items, imo. I saw (a long time ago) these PLASTIC chanel earrings with their logo and they were way way much than they should have been.
Same for Dior..they had some 'candy' necklace collection, which was mainly plastic I believe.. and the necklace was priced for $1000 if not more.

Everything is only worth the price people are willing pay for it.

I try to avoid designers that advertise as all the advertising costs are added into the cost of the clothing. That's why the Belgian designers are more "reasonably" than other designers.

Also, you have to take into consideration that the higher the production numbers there are the cheaper it is to manufacture. So in reality the more popular a brand is the more affordable it should be.

I just wish Demeulemeester shoes were more affordable.

Helmut Lang hands freaking down.

I fail to see how...it seems to me his clothing was always much more reasonably priced than a lot of the menswear out there, especially Dior Homme.

Juicy-hello tacky jumpsuits. Go to Wet Seal and get them for $20 instead.
Louis Vuitton
Marc Jacobs
