Most Overpriced Designer?

aldo said:
why isn't anybody mentioning Jil Sander back when she was in the house? (especially circa 1996-2000)
It was simple but had an edge. At least the work I have to judge by.

Let's all think about this...Designers run huge campaigns and produce the most beautiful fashion shows. The price of these things has to be factored in some how.

i agree. the money for all of that does have to come from somewhere; the shows and the huge campaign are huge part of what makes certain designers so special (in addition to great talent, of course). so it's justified that their clothes aren't inexpensive.

This is true but it doesn't look like LUCIEN PELLAT FINET pull off any special campaigns. In fact their magazine ads really suck, just a two tone skull or leaf logo. Plus in his designs...well there doesn't seem like any talent, it's just unbelievably high pricing for no reason. :yuk:

Well, supposedly his cashmere is THE best. But I hate the "designs," so I'm not really going to defend him. He's about quality and exclusivity.

LUCIEN PELLAT FINET - the prices are over the roof and into space!

http://www.aloharag.com/highseas/assets/images/english/store/men/lpf/tops/raw05org/raw05org.htm - $2310 - Skull Cashmere Knit??

My head is spinning...

Yeah, and from a distance I would have thought "GAP". the details are fine, but not $2600 fine.
god that is totally f**$Kng outrageous. Even if I had cash to throw around like that I wouldn't spend that for a sweater. get real, Lucien!

Now what do you make of this...
I bought a really beautiful Prada jacket from saks off 5th. ill-fitting, but gorgeous - anyway, I paid only $124 for it.Now, I knew it had to have been quite a bit more than that originally, so i did some searching and found out that it had origianlly been $2400!
So if they are still making money on it at $124, what the hell does that say about actual cost?? HELLO INSANE MARKUP!

They very well may have been losing money on that. Stores can lose money when they're "forced" to mark stuff way down.

I would have to say chanel. it so unbelievable pricey for clothes which looks cheap. Chanel bags are even worse. they cost a bomb but look like they belong to a beggar. taseless, styless and cheap looking. same goes for marc jacobs bags. hideous, cheap looking but expensive.

I find nothing special in his cashmere. Old Jil Sander stuff was way better :flower:

I don't think it had an edge, and I don't think edge has much to do with prices (unless by edge you mean numerous details that require a lot of work). I think the reason Jil was so expensive is because she always used very high quality fabrics. She gradually started reminding me of old Italian houses that produce luxury clothing rather than fashion as an artistic expression.

wow $ 124 = bargain, my votes go to Chanel, Valentino, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Ellie saab, and i personally think true religion jeans are very overpriced.

Can someone explain to me how a pair of silk Chloe shorts can cost $3,000 (american)?

^ I agree on Chloe. They would definatly be near the top of my list. They have pretty simple corchet tops that cost over $2000.

My vote has to go to Chloe too. Simple designs, straightforward or cheap materials, so-so quality and sky-high prices...

Chloe - I like some of the stuff but the prices are outrageous

Prada -

some of these designers have no excuse to make clothes that are anything but exceptional quality -- it can be simple designs but the cut and quality have to be perfect

valentino, i dont even allow myself to enter the store, because if it is out of sight its out of mind...
chanel is expensive , but i collect it, so i spend there.....but still it could be a lot cheaper
the euro really must go down
