Most Overpriced Designer?

*cough* I think I have the Hermés notebook you're talking about in orange....it is nice.

But on topic, I think Louis Vuitton is the most overpriced. Once you get past the several hundred dollars for the little pouch things, some of the stuff gets worse and worse! I saw a chess set in Men's Vogue for over $20,000! It was one of those limited edition/custom made things, but I don't believe anyone would ever think that was "affordable".

Well they are not really a designer but Abercrombie and Fitch. And then for real designers. My favorite designer is Versace but they are way over-priced for some of the stuff. Also Zac Posen is one of my favorites but he is overpriced. Now for the rest... Chanel, Hermes, Prada, Louis Vuitton, DSquared2, D&G, Rochas<---which is obviously paying the price now...John Galliano...Now although most of this stuff is overpriced. I am guilty of buying it because I like it and I'm a label wh*re. But hey, when I'm an actual designer and have my own line, who's to say some of my stuff won't be overpriced...

Dior and Roberto Cavalli are just plain tacky in my eyes, and therefore very overpriced. The same people who will plunk down endless amounts of money on an LV bag solely to show off the label are the same ones who will buy any random item with the dior logo plastered all over it. Thats not style.

Concering Hermès, just want to share an experience with you.
Yesterday, I went to my Hermès syore to buy a pair of gloves (the simple ones with the "hermes-paris" stud), and as my hands are tiny, my SA showed me the woman's ones, as well as the men's ones. They seems to be exaclty the same. Anyway, the biggest women's size they had (8) was too tight, so I made a special order for a 7.5 men's sized. But, when I saw the price tags, I found something strange. Women's gloves are priced something like 250 EUR, and men's are 450 EUR. For the same gloves. As I know the SA for a long time, I asked her about the difference. She explained me that the men's gloves's leather is way thinner (which is true when you look closer), and making a glove with a leather which is that thin is very complicated (as well as puting silk inside). Concerning the belts, I was also explained that having black stiches on the box side and white stiches on the togo side required a lot of work and knowledge. So... I don't think Hermès (or Chanel) can be blamed for the prices because the craftmanship is pricey, and the products are fabulous.
That said, blaming Vuitton, Dior, or Prada is ok.

Prada just does not do it for me, its those nylon bags.....:ninja:  Cannot justify spending on those.

But I have to admit that I don't mind spending on LV or Chloe, especially the bags, their stuff just seems like an investment. I know I will be using my LV bags for years.

Honey, they say that to make you think they are worth that much, my mother can make gloves like the ones Hermes makes and they definately wouldn't be worth that much. The Hermes gloves and belts might take craftsmanship but the price still dont fit the work.

LV (mainly) and Dior are so unpopular with some of us here because we see their unnattractive items (logo) way more often on the street than their nice ones (see runway shows). I think it is important, being the well informed ones, that we actually look at all these brands have to offer, then judge them.

Can I just ask, i've been reading through quite a few pages of this topic, can anybody actually give me prices for example for:
Burberry Prorsum (for example spring 2006 line), Yohji Yamamoto (Fall 2006) etc? I have no clue what my favourite lines actually cost, its rather shocking!

Very odd comparison IMO. Your mother is not a international company who employs thousand of people including highly qualified artisans. I agree part of the price is just hype and advertisement cost, but in addition of the excellent craftsmanship you also pay for the lifetime service behind.
For the same reason, I think Chanel (for the most part) and LV (although their logoed stuff is tacky as hell) are not overpriced. Pricey and exclusive, yes, but worth it if you can afford it.

They are all overpriced because they are a symbol of social status. So it is not only the piece you buy, but what it represents.

Cavalli is the worse for me, too expensive and way to tacky. Smells of newly rich and now with Victoria Beckham wearing it, it has lost the few class it had in my eyes.

I agree with mischievous. I think that the point of the stuff to be overpriced is that it comes with pride and social status...

I have to admit that I'm a label girl, I love buying designer clothes
Although I know the big part of these super pricing are the ad fees and the big names, but I still buy those I think that are worthy (esp. the ones that are my style and those I can wear all the time)
but I would have to say Dior is just WHOA
I have to say they have some nice dresses on the runaway sometimes, but those are not the pieces you can wear everyday, especially with the scary prices !!
Unless a piece is really on fire, to die for, and really fits you, I would recommend you guys to buy when they're on sale
80% of my designer clothes are from sale, and actually the higher the price, the bigger the mark down would be
you can even get some really hot season pieces in early sale

Lines like Marc by Marc, D&G etc... I think they are so expensive even though the quality is nowhere near worth the price mainly because it's risky [maybe even scary] for a designer to go too low. It makes you question all other items and maybe the popularity or 'worth' of the designer decreases. I am wording this all wrong because I'm just out of it today but I hope you catch my drift. They can potentially lose upscale clientelle if their product prices go down and (god forbid) the average joe can afford some of it...
D&G sux i knew it is also much cheaper than dolce & Gabbana!
Dont waste your $$ for these tastless stuffs!!!

but it is now popularized.. wot a shame!

I don't think we can say only D&G is overpriced. It is just as overpriced as Dolce & Gabbana. Ittierre brands are all in about the same price range as D&G.

celine and michael kors for sure. always bad imitations of whats going on. Micheal Kors is only where he is because his family made good with Wintour.
