One thing to note is how she is always seen wearing a close-fitting bangle on her left wrist. According to the bio Natasha, this is because as a child and during the filming of "The Green Promise", her mother tricked her into doing a dangerous stunt which left her with a broken wrist and almost drowning.
To keep in good with the studio, her mother did not report it and never took Natalie to a doctor to get it set properly. The rest of her life, she was very self-conscious of her misshapen wrist bone and tried to always wear a bangle over it.

Thanks for posting those pictures Orchide. They are beautiful. I heard that story about Natalie's wrist too and now when I watch Natalie Wood's film or see photos of her I always notice she wear a bangle or some sort of bracelet on her left wrist.

i am curious to catch a glimpse of her wrist but she was so careful always to cover it

Elia Kazan talked her into not wearing the bracelet in the bathtub scene in 'Splendor in the Grass". It is one of the few times when Natalie's left wrist is exposed to the camera. I got that tidbit in the Natasha bio as well:flower:
The book says," the combination of Kazan's wizardry, Natalie's emotional connection to the mother/daughter conflict in the scene, the panic of dousing her head underwater, and the vulnerability she felt at being seen "naked"- without her "magic" bracelet- produced a hysteria in Natalie that may be her most powerful moment as an actress".

I am sure he maybe did not linger on it or focus on her wrist as she was so sensitive about it and I am sure she tried to keep it out of sight...he just didn't think a bracelet was appropriate to the scene and also knew it would help to get Natalie to a more vulnerable place mentally:blush:
Here are some more from "This Property is Condemned"
I am from New Orleans so I love the romantic portrayal of the south and of the city, Tennessee's writing and the gorgeous pairing of Natalie with Robert.

If you are a fan of Natalie's, you should love it, I think
Another favorite of mine is "Inside Daisy Clover".
I will get pictures from that tomorrow...its beyond late now for me:doh:
So nice to have friends online who share my passion for old films, the nostalgia and trading pictures and stories...I love it^_^

great thread :woot: The wrist thing is so interesting. All the pic's make me want to go out and read more tennessee williams. He captures the south so well

Such great pictures in here lately! Thanks, everyone. :flower: Just when you think you'd seen them all...

For me, she looked possibly her most beautiful in "The Great Race", but i remember reading or hearing somewhere that it was a very unhappy period for her. :(

It's a pretty good movie too, though her part is small.

God, I love this forum! :D

I've seen her wrist without a bracelet, I think
I have a picture, but it's very small

here it is

sorry for the bad quality
but you can see it, right?

Her mother was a very bad person, imo, How can you do that to a 9 year old?!

anyway,
I love how she looked in the sixties, specially around 66 and 69
she was so beautiful!

Oh and they say that when she was filming The Grate Race in 1965, (a film that she didn't want to make), she was very depressed and tried to kill herself. :(

i also think she looked her most beautiful in the great race

and wow you can see the broken wrist in that pic - it really doesn't look grotesque though

I had dreams about Natalie when I went to sleep last night:lol: all this posting...I need to resee all of her films now
and finally see ones I never have like "Penelope", "The Great Race" & "Bob, Carol, Ted & Alice".
I am definitely on a NW kick right now.
Forgot to mention...I have seen and been around her one daughter Natasha before. She carries herself so well...has Natalie's build for sure and coloring but her eyes aren't quite as huge and her mouth is very teeny.
Its just amazing to look at someone and think, "Gosh...Natalie Wood is your mom!":woot: ya know?

penelope is my fave of her films - its just a cute little 60s comedy and she has really cool costumes and wears all these wigs

its not the greatest film ever (it was a box office flop) but it was a vehicle for her really

Penelope is one of my favourite Natalie Wood films too. It is just such a cute story and Natalie Wood just shines in it. I think if you are a big fan of Natalie Wood you will enjoy the film. There are still quite a few of Natalie's films I haven't seen yet. I'm one of those fans that must see every film the star has ever been in. Even when they are just an extra or if the film is a dud. I really want to see Sex and the Single Girl, Love with the Proper Stranger, This Property Is Condemned and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. I'll have to rent out all her movies that I haven't seen once the semester and my exams are over.
