Well, if you think the legendary, extraordinarily influential Helmut Newton (who passed away tragically in a 2004 car crash in Los Angeles at the age of 83) is a "pervert", you shouldn't get the joke. B)

i can't explain the joke, missy (if i may) nor can i know why someone wd call him a 'pervert' without seeing the context of the statement. helmut newton was famous for photos with a sexual edge, which is probably why someone who didn't appreciate his art – and it was art – wd try to dismiss him with a cheap insult. if you want to find out more about his work i'm sure there are places on the web you can explore. your original question seemed a little, i don't know, mean or naive, but i'm sure it wasn't your intention, and i didn't mean anything mean by the reply. let's just forget about it, and be tfs friends.

Your original question of "Isn't Helmut Newton a pervert?" is the exact same sort of "question" as "Isn't your brother ugly?", ""Don't you wear deodorant?", "Isn't your dress better suited for walking the street?", "Doesn't your mother wear combat boots?" and so on .

If you were truly interested in asking people whether what you "read about Helmut Newton" was really the case or not, you very (very) likely would have not asked the question in the fashion as you did. The fact that you claim you "don't get the joke" ads more credence to the judgment that your original question wasn't really a question at all. Instead, it's a statement of your opinion about him that seems to be a backhanded insult, as mentioned by berkeleygrrrl. Not something that Mr. Newton deserves. Although your opinion is certainly free to be expressed.

Lily Cole's done a vague form of toplessness, although the pic I saw was very tasteful and artistic. Her face was so lovely you weren't even looking at her chest, and if you did, you didn't feel like a pervert. Other than that, those Gisele photos made me feel really sleazy and uncomfortable.
