Open-toe Boots

I love so many of these, I'm now on the hunt for a pair.
It seems like a suitable way of being able to wear boots in the spring in summer.

You're right. I'll shy away from open-toe boots. Even if I were a femme, I wouldn't wear those. Offering a peek of the toes and maybe the back of my feet are the jobs of sandals and open-toe pumps and shoes.

I think I've seen my first open-toe boot victim... I mean, example. It was a brief example while my family were out furniture shopping. These were boots that were camel or caramel colored with a slingback design. I didn't get to see the front of those boots because my family and I were leaving. I think these are the worst boots since mukluks.

On a lighter note, I saw a kind of open-toe boots that were acceptable to me in a local magazine and that I've seen in the past. These open-toe ankle boots were of considerable height. Had the open toes at the front, a nice slingback design, and had a silver zipper across the front for getting into and out of the boots. The reason why I accepted them was because they were more shoe-like ankle boots instead of tall boots trying too hard to merge slingback open-toe pump with boots. The funny thing about seeing these open-toe boots in person for the first time... this one teenage girl had some VERY cute ankle boots when I saw them. So I see lovely ankle boots... then the open-toe abomination of boots. From beautiful sunshine to monsoon.

Okay. I'll admit there's a pair of open-toe boots I like. The open-toe boots I admit liking were in a Neiman Marcus advertisement. I could remember seeing similar boots like these back in the late 1990s. I'm sure those were nowhere near as expensive as these $755 USD Manolo Blahnik "Vella" ankle boots ( http://www.barneys.com/Vella/15502.8462,default,pd.html ). This would have been lovely if it were a fully-enclosed boot. However, it's one of only a few open-toe boots I'm willing to give a pass to. These are more like shoes than boots trying too hard to look chic. That's why I'm willing to give these booties a pass.

Just the style of these shoes reminds me of some similar open-toe ankle boots I've seen before. Not even pairing open-toe boots with matching socks/stockings/tights is even acceptable to me (though a nice touch) isn't going to convince me much about them. The model had these... I guess cranberry-colored tights paired with a lovely indigo dress.

So that's one pair of open-toe boots I've given a pass on after vicious dislike. Will others follow? We'll see.

I did a little field study at a mall. I've had a chance to see various open-toe boots in person from stores like Baker's, Aldo Accessories, Nine West, and I think even 5-7-9. I could imagine the style impact regarding open-toe boots, though I'm not feeling these open-toe boots. I've seen a femme wearing open-toe boots at this same mall before, but not today. Still not excited about these open-toe boots. But at least now, I got a better idea as to what some open-toe boots look like for those who want a pair of these open-toe boots.

So who has been successful wearing these? I bought a pair this season in this open toe boot category and I find they have a very short seasonal window of opportunity. Like when it's fall time but still relatively warm is their only chance. I have black open toe ones. Is it ok or pointless to wear them with blk tights? Just because although the ground is clear of snow where I live, it's about 15-30 degrees F here lately and I think frostbitten toes would be a faux pas. ANyone having luck with how to wear them and not be a moron when it's colder? Or do you just have to say good bye and wait til it warms up again? I wonder if they'd be ok to wear out at night with blk tights though, instead of pumps or closed booties. . . .

I have a similar pair and I've been wearing them with black opaque tights. I think that's your only chance if you want to keep wearing them once it gets colder. I also treat them like normal booties so I mostly wear them with dresses/skirts and tights. I think you can even get away with thin knit tights (e.g cotton or thin wool). I think it would be a waste of money not to wear them in colder weather as well.

Estelle wore open-toe boots at the Grammys back last Sunday. She just was just a walking fashion fail from the Grammys. Not just the dress, but the open-toe boots themselves. There are still very few open-toe boots I'll give an exception to. When will these damned things go out of style and when will everyone stop being so excited and in love with these horrid abominations?

I'm not a man of guarantees or promises. However, this is where I normally put aside my love of open-toe boots (love-to-hate, that is) and share a pair of open-toe boots I actually don't mind... on one condition. Have a look at the boots in this link:

I think these could be tall boots you could get away with wearing in the Summer. Trouble is, the fringe details. The style of these boots suggest an otherwise average pair of peep-toe pumps with leg warmers attached to them. The site I linked to suggested these to be more like Summer boots you can wear. As much as I've disliked tucking jeans into boots as a styling exercise, the fringes would actually prevent you from finding a good pair of jeans or pants to basically cover up that those fringes. Plus, you're asking to be a fashion victim should you attempt tucking these into jeans or pants. Without the fringes, these could actually be boots you could get away with wearing in warmer weather. I know I've seen clogs and mules that look like boots until you realize they are not real boots, but these are more like boots that have a feel more like open/peep toe pumps, only that these are open-toe/peep-toe boots.



So these are some of the exceptions of open-toe boots for me. I would have liked them a lot better without the fringe detail. If someone wanted a "Yay or Nay" on these cutout boots from Louboutin, I'd Nay them because of the fringes, and Yay them if those fringe details weren't there. I'd even like a dark brown or black color rather than this camel or natural color.

See? There's a forgiving side of me even for styles and looks I dislike.

I've gotten two pair thus far... I don't want to go overboard, but my god, I do love this look and plan on wearing these for many yrs. to come...

I am still wishing to see those tall, flat Sigerson + Morrison boots on sale in the future...

It is safe to say that if you're going to do this, you either have to fork out big $$$ for a nice pair or do a very precise search for a modestly priced pair. I would skip Steve Madden completely... Loehmanns has some very nice open-toed booties at the moment. They are very reminiscent of those glorious Givenchy lace-up booties, but they aren't down-right copies... I love mine...
