I read an article about Jessica Simpson, and I read that she apparently enjoys organic cigarettes from time to time.

I typed "organic cigarettes" into Wikipedia, and no results came up. The word "organic" didn't even show up under the "Cigarette" article.

Does anyone know anything about this "trend" of organic products/merchandise?

I know that I have tried cherry-flavored cigarettes that my friends promised weren't addictive, but the cigarettes did have tobacco inside. (Sans nicotine, I guess.)

Share what you know, please. :flower:

If you type "organic cigarettes" into Google, you will find plenty of results.

Here's an excerpt from the Canadian Medical Association Journal, regarding American Spirit organic cigarettes:

Next time you’re stocking up on granola
at the health food store, you
may find another unadulterated
product that is becoming popular in
Canada and the US — organically
grown American Spirit cigarettes
manufactured by New Mexico’s
Santa Fe Natural Tobacco
Company. They are currently
available at more than
a dozen sites across Canada.
Robin Sommers, Santa
Fe’s president and CEO,
says the New Age smokes
are made from whole-leaf
tobacco and contain no chemical
additives, preservatives, reconstituted
sheet tobacco, stems,
flavourings, moisteners or burning
agents. In contrast, popular American-
blend cigarettes contain only
60% of shred cut from tobacco
lamina. Although they have higher
levels of nicotine and tar than conventional
smokes, the all-natural
cigarettes contain none of the many
substances that major tobacco companies
have disclosed are added to
their products. Sommers stops short
of claiming his American Spirit cigarettes
are healthy, but disingenuously
notes that no studies have
been done on them. A health-conscious
runner, he doesn’t smoke.

No matter how you grow it, inhaling smoke into your lungs is not healthy. Mmmkay?

^Indeed...

I think this is what I tried though, when I tried it for the first time
So, no buzz

I wonder if these organic cigarettes are the beedies...
that's how we call these kind of - disgusting - cigarettes in France...
it's really horrible and it smells sooo bad...

In France, people are talking about the new electronic cigarettes...
It's a new way to stop smoking... You buy a fake cigarette and put some nicotine powder in it... When you smoke it, there's nothing bad in it (li.e : thse chimic products in the real ones)... there's only nicotine... and whn you breath out, it's water vapor so it isn't bad for your entourage, nor it is for your health....

^mine smelled alright... it was good actually
maybe you're talking about another plant for smoking :innocent:

sounds interesting... electronic cigarettes
i don't understand the 'electric' part of it though :ermm:

ahhha! But the higher levels of nicotine would just make you more addicted wouldnt they? As a casual smoker... I cant see the point its nasty either way!

Bidis are clove cigarettes; there may be organic ones, but not all are, and they are not the same thing.

Higher levels of nicotine will make you more addicted to nicotine; there is some question as to whether the chemical additives in most cigarettes contain other, more addictive substances besides nicotine.

American Spirits were the last brand I smoked before quitting, and it was still very hard to quit, and took several tries.

I guess you're addicted to nicotine, yes... but don't do hurt to your health...

:lol::lol:
... no I like a lot the smell of these cigarettes....:ninja:

I smoke American Spirits and can't smoke anything else.
Everything else tastes too much like chemicals and not like tobacco and burns so fast!
AS are very slow burning.

The lack of chemicals doesn't make them safe by any means and I really should quit.

A friend of mine actually switched from Marlboro Lights to AS Lights just to quit.
She said it was easier to quit from those for some reason.
She didn't go cold turkey....
cut down and then eventually stopped.

Bidis are not cloves. They are regular tobacco rolled in Eucalyptus leaves. Sometimes they are flavored with spices, but they aren't the same thing as straight clove cigarettes. It's what the more blue-collar/manual labor people in India smoke. They're very cheap.

Do you mean nicotine doesn't hurt your health?
Isn't it poisionous to humans in large amounts?

I stand corrected. :flower:

I have since read that they may also be flavored with chocolate, vanilla and other sweet flavorings, and are being marketed as "natural" cigarettes in the US now. I also read that they are made from tobacco flakes and dust, which makes them both cheaper and harsher (which is why the flavorings are added.)

I hated American Spirits but I suppose they are the most natural ones you can come by...I tried them but yuck...I prefer Parliament Lights...

Yup. They are really quite awful. Those were the first cigarettes I ever tried, (though not flavored) and they cost me 1.50 us dollars.

As far as natural cigarettes, I even heard that American Spirits are not quite what they are advertised to be. If someone wanted something without all that other stuff that tobacco companies add, you could always buy loose tobacco and roll 'em yourself. It's far cheaper and tastes better. (I don't taste any chemicals when I have one)

one thing i know is that regular cigarettes have a lot of disgusting additives! the weirdest thing is amonia... it makes the uptake of nicotine much faster. sometimes you can smell the amonia, like in clubs where there's a ton of cigarette smoke seeped into the walls.:doh:
so at least organic cigarettes are just tobacco, fewer additives. i prefer a really good cigar, myself, that is the best way to appreciate tobacco!

and btw - bidis are traditionally wrapped in tendu leaves... my husband is from india, once in awhile a friend will pass along a pack of bidis. i love the packaging they come in... but they knock me out!

pic from wikipedia of course

Wouldn't labeling cigarettes as organic be an oxymoron? Organic means natural, thus something that's beneficial to you, which cigarettes aren't.

Organic has specific meaning regarding how things are produced for consumption; it does not mean that they are beneficial.

Organically grown hemlock, belladonna, etc. will still kill you. Natural tigers will kill you.

Semantics and labeling laws.

Not an oxymoron, more like ironic.

Organic or natural doesn't mean something that's beneficial to you. It means a product has had little or no processing and no chemical additives. People have been using tobacco for thousands of years, it's just that recently we've been adding a lot of garbage to them. So no, an organic cigarette is not an oxymoron, but yeah smoking it isn't necessarily good for you.

edit: Whoops! Tangerine and seanutbutter are much quicker
