Egg Shaped Skirt

Does anyone have any photos of this?
How wearable do you think it is

I think almost anything is wearable if you balance it right...you couldn't wear this kind of skirt with like a baggy, completely unfitted top...and I'm betting you'd have to be pretty tall and thin to pull it off.

I agree, I think you have to be quite tall with long legs to pull off this shape skirt.

I love this Balenciaga one (from style.com)

i think we have a thread on similar skirts called puff-ball..maybe a merge? :)

they're very cute, and i agree: tall and thin. i could never pull it off being short.

I don't think there is another thread on this type of skirt...I couldn't find it at all and I tried a lot of search words...maybe I'm just missing it somehow??

As for the Alexander McQueen skirts, yeah, they don't lok extremely wearable (I don't think the second one especially was ever meant to be seen anywhere besides the runway or a vogue edit!!), but they are a lot more puffy than other options from designers' fall 05 collections...like the Marc Jacobs skirt SanDiego posted I think looks pretty wearable. Actually if the third Alexander McQueen lost a little bit of the volume I think it could be wearable as well. And also I think there's a difference between "egg-shaped" skirts that this topic was started about...skirts that start small, gets volume in the middle and go back to small at the bottom to create and oval-look...lots of designers did volume like those McQueen looks but they aren't "egg-shaped", just poofy. Really, really poofy.

Dior had this...thing...with a skirt in that shape...yeah, I don't know how I lived without a leather jumper like this all my life...(this may fall into the "less wearable" category...or maybe I'm just not creative)

I really wanna try one of these skirts now. Just because I'm so curious as to whether or not I could make it work...

It's perfect for people with disproportionately small hips. It would balance the lower body with the upper. But I agree it probably looks best on people who are skinny all-around.

I like the shapes on the catwalk but I am just not sure how easy they would be to wear in real life - its a difficult shape and it would look odd on the street amoungst non-fashiony people in 'normal' clothes. Maybe a slightly less 'eggy' shape would work.

I disagree with people who say you have to be tall and thin. for me it's all about proportions. You just need to find the right egg shaped skirt that suits your body shape, in terms of length and 'width'. It depends on your personality as to whether or not you'd be able to pull it off IMO

meg I think you are right but I just know that no matter how much I suited an egg skirt, I couldn't wear one as I'd get laughed at (and usually I am not that bothered about looking too fashiony) ...... I think its only really for the fashion capitals (well at this time anway - maybe in a few years if they really catch on).

aww helena, poor you! You should make it a fashion capital! It's so inspiring when you see people dressed really well and confident about it, no matter where you live.
Slightly OT:
A year or two ago I was wearing black bermuda shorts with a coral button down and heels and someone yelled out at me 'Your outfit doesn't go together!' and I just laughed and carried on (they were wearing a velour tracksuit ). I just figure not to be bothered by it.

^ LMBO!!!!!!!!! That is soo funny
ha ha, you got heckled? LOL and by someone in a tracksuit no less!
I have never gotten yelled at but Im sure people think things in thier head like "how did she come up with that"
But the funny thing is, a year later they will be wearing the same thing!

I think people in track suits should not be allowed to open their mouths about fashion at all, ha ha thats JMO

Agree.
I do think that you need to ahve a small waist to look good in those skirts. Also wearing a fitted top to balance out. They look totally cool to me and I enjoy my Daryl K skirt in that shape.
I don't really care what other people way. You ahve to admit that the majority of the population are not into fashion. They don't get it. So let it be.:innocent:
