I like the shapes on the catwalk but I am just not sure how easy they would be to wear in real life - its a difficult shape and it would look odd on the street amoungst non-fashiony people in 'normal' clothes. Maybe a slightly less 'eggy' shape would work.

Totally agree with you Helena, even thought the puffball skirt is on almost every designer's runway, it will be VERY hard to see that trend translate to the street.... It's way too "avant garde" *cough* for the street crowd....

I tried on a dress with a puffball skirt today, and while I found it to be utterly adorable, my shopping mates gave me the hardest time about how odd it looked. hmmph, I would have gotten it anyway had I not been broke. :P
this a trend that I think the average shopper is really going to have a hard time digesting. like kimkhuu said, it's just a bit too avante garde for most.

Yeah the skirt should come with a warning label
"not for those who are faint at heart or care about what others are going to say"

wow, after this thread was merged, I feel dumb because A) I replied to the original thread but completely didn't remember it and said I didn't think there was a thread similar to the second one and B) I completely forgot I have worn a pufy skirt out until I read that post earlier!! I did, it was great fun, it wasn't "egg-shaped" but just a puffy but nice-looking one in black. It worked pretty well, I got compliments, no bad looks...it didn't look extreme.

anyways, I like these types of skirts, and I wouldn't mind seeing them this fall...I just don't wish for them to be everywhere in bad fabrics and bad colors and sold in tacky stores like wet seal...they'd kind of lose their artistic quality and just become annoying at that point.

Maybe I'm the only out there that doesn't find it to avante garde...my only issue that I find them difficult to fit because the way that a lot of designers make them puff out is to bring in the hem (obviously) but it makes it quite tight around the legs where it comes in, tighter than a pencil skirt, so I have issues in that sense.

It's quite unexptected when you think of it. It seems the models are getting skinnier by the season and then this becomes a trend.
I think it's adorable, I like the ones with houndstooth print from MaxMara and Proenza and the Balenciaga ones best. I probably won't be wearing them, but I'm not really a skirt person anyway.

I like that MaxMara houndstooth one.. very cute and wearable.

love these skirts, i wish i could find them in shops. the only ones i could get my hands on were wintage. ^_^

Ohhhh I like Proenza's. I think they made me decide to get one. Esp. that second look; totally wearable!

Same here! I baught a puffy "balloon" skirt from Marni, I put it on a few days ago and I thought it looked rather cute. I came out and showed my brother and another guy freind that I was going out with that night, they wouldn't spot luaphing or talking about how terrible and silly it looked, they were teasing me about it for the next few days. I like to try some things that are a little diffrent than what most people wear, they dont understand anything but th emainstream style

As much as I hate to, I'm selling the skirt on eBay now since I can't go out without having those two laughing at me, they said they'd be embaressed walking next to me.

Let me know if your intrested!

I think they look great, but I don't think I could pull it off. Because I'm short, it would have to be the perfect length.

Aaaand I changed my mind  I really want one, but I think I'll have to make it myself. Does anyone know where to get a decent pattern?
It was kinda funny, I was reading the latest ELLE at my friend's house and there was an article on these puffball/egg skirts in which they said nearly the same thing as me. Hollywood becoming skinnier by the day and then this trend shows up. Maybe I can work there :innocent::lol:

I  puffball skirts! I made several a while ago and I wear them often. I find that they're just as wearable as any other style of skirt.

I love this Proenza Schouler Dress. It was photographed for the most recent July Vogue but the way the model posed I would have never known it had that poof ball shape to it. I kinda liked not knowning about it either:shock: I don't think the tuke goes very with the dress here at all as well. Vogue paired it with some snakeskin flat boots beautifully.

karma for you, dear.

i think i have extreme tendencies: i either advocate smartly or humanely designed garments. example: issey miyake's quest to rid the world of oppressive clothing through function, manufacturing processes, price point...design flaws such as seams :P and dry cleaning.

or...

COMPLETELY oppressive pouffy balls of fabric that are pretty unrealistic to even move in. :stuart:
