Raf Simons Leaving Christian Dior; Maria Chiuri Rumored In

I am on the Theyskens bandwagon as well. It would be a dream come true for me, I don't see how it wouldn't work.

I think it's Riccardo, honestly. His NY show was basically a farewell party, he's already in the family, he can do HC and commercial stuff...

Mess at Riccardo

The thought of Joan and Kendall being the new Dior girls.....let me not rn.

I'm honestly shocked. I didn't care for his output for Dior but it seemed like things were going well there. If it really was his decision... I don't even know what to say. Good for him to admit that it wasn't a right fit.

Wonder where he'll end up. Going by the clue that it's something we wouldn't think of... what about Armani? Lanvin could use a fresh take but probably not.

And who's taking over Dior? I too would love Theyskens but I'm afraid I agree with what others have said, it feels like his time has passed. Hope I'm wrong. I'll take anyone but Wang or Tisci though.

Cool, I'm ready for someone new at Dior  I love the idea of a female designer taking over (Simone Rocha or Roksana Ilincic would be my top choices), and I'm curious to see how this plays. It better not take as long to find a new designer as it did when Galliano "left"!

As for Raf Simons' future, I wish him the best. I agree with everyone who says that Raf and Dior were just never a good fit. Hopefully he'll make a much better choice for which house to design for next.

This news has me questioning the status of every major house out there right now.

Olivier Theyskens has been waiting in the wings for awhile now, but could he be on tap? What about Alber at Lanvin--would he potentially want to make the move to a bigger house? I really think Phoebe is content with what she has going, and if she were to leave Céline it would be to start her own label.

Riccardo seems like the most obvious choice, but it is exactly that reason that has me skeptical. He is SO synonymous with Givenchy that the crossover to Dior would be too much of a strain. And I could be proven totally wrong, but the whole gothic romanticism aesthetic is pretty much all he has to offer, so why retread that at Dior? I see him potentially launching his own label too.

So where does that leave Raf? I don't think he could ever go back to Jil Sander. And I don't think he'll be going to an Italian house. Calvin Klein is a great guess.

I wonder what Burberry has planned, and if any of the mentioned designers might make the shift over to there, perhaps Phoebe might be feeling patriotic?

And then of course Chanel, which could be seeing a drastic shakeup any day now...So much food for thought.

Everything that was said on his spring 2016 was true. I mean, as i said earlier, when you have the creative direction of a house like Dior and that your RTW is so disconnected to all the others area of the house..it smells bad.

He cannot work for a big house. Karl has that kind of contract at Chloé when he started working with Chanel.
Call me crazy but i feel like he can comeback to Jil or take Helmut Lang. He has so much admiration for the house and it can be good for them.

For Dior? Riccardo Tisci is the ideal candidate. He knows couture, his RTW is popular, he is a big name and have a loyal clientele. I think he will take Dior. He is the best candidate really.

Maybe Olivier T can take over Givenchy or one of the finalist of that infamous LVMH prize.
I think LVMH might use their ressources from the LVMH prize.

I wasn't really a fan of Raf at Dior so i'm not sad.

I second you on Raf at Jil Sander or Helmut Lang, currently both brands need a complete overhaul and Raf is the perfect candidate, since he knows Jil Sander and its DNA, and he's known for being a great fan of Helmut Lang and his work ( probably why most of his first collections were Helmutish.

And I second you too on Ghesquière at Dior, this is the most realistic candidate if you put Phoebe Philo aside as she plans to spend more time with her family if she quits Céline.

Just when I thought Rafael is maturing well at Dior....

Not likely to happen, but helmut Lang at Dior would be interesting.
Olivier theyskens is who I really want see although I agree with most that Ricardo is most likely to succeed.

I am actually glad he is leaving Dior. His collections have not been interesting or within the style of DIOR.
His couture as boring and his ready to wear was very disappointing. There as hardly any pretty evening gowns and if there was, it was a plain gown. I miss the nicely embellished dress, the elegant cuts from DIOR.

Raf would do great at Jill Sander or CK, thats his style.

DIOR needs someone who knows couture, who knows lavish designs and so on.

Galliano was the perfect match for DIOR, thats what DIOR needs.

Does anyone know who will be in charge of the prefall collection? Pieter Mulier?

There is a God!! I'm sure this is terrible news for those who supported Raf for Dior, but I really think it's for the best. I think Dior stifled his creativity! Like many, I loved what he did at Jil Sander - always got the feeling that was due to the minimal pressure and ample freedom. He needs to be somewhere similar, with Dior the pressure was too immense. It will be interesting to see how he'll proceed at the next house. The scrutiny and backlash he's received ever since he took over this position was quite severe, and certainly not something he'd been exposed to before, so I'm keen to see how his tenure at Dior shaped him. Either way, the torture is over.

Oh the anticipation! Could it be Calvin Klein?

By the way, if Tisci is moving to Dior that would explain the rehashed couture pieces in New York.

This I'm totally behind him at Calvin Klein, in fact, it would be a dream come true for me.

I don't even want to entertain the idea of Tisci at Dior, but then again it will mean Givenchy could be free from his populist grasp. I can see him ending up much like an ersatz version of Galliano, which could prove to be successful for Dior. Guess it's a Sophie's choice for me then!!

I would love to see Joseph Font from Delpozo taking his place. Although I have a feeling we might have a surprise, something like Frida Giannini :D

Agree.
I'm not Simons fan.
It was sure not easy for Simons to be three and half years at the helm of the Dior House which is the jewel in the crown of french -and- world fashion. It was a commercial success but Dior shows were boring, in my opinion. Simons came in Dior after Galliano epoc and a lot of people wanted to see Dior as it was in Gallaino time.Ras Simons has his eponymous brand which started to grow up. Anyway, the coming season will be very intersting. Who will replace Simons? I hope it can be one designer like Riccardo Tisci.

The thing about Dior is that it's the only house in french fashion that has always been about excess. Galliano was their perfect designer because everything was just big with him.
Raf Simons wasn't the perfect fit but his tenure was needed because he had a different and fresh approach of Dior. Basically, his tenure was what Bill Gaytten's tenure was supposed to be: a cleanser.

People, remember that ego is what drive designers.
It doesn't matter that Riccardo is dark and all that. Dior is the biggest fashion house in the group.
I really believe that Riccardo will take Dior. Sydney Toledano was at his NYC Givenchy show...

We have so many unemployed big designers now: Stefano P(in Womenswear at least), Frida G, Olivier T.

My thing with Olivier T even with all his talent is that he has never proved himself to be a commercial force. I don't think that Bernard Arnault will take that risk again after what happened with Lacroix.
Pucci seems to be in trouble space and i don't think he will take that risk with Givenchy. I really don't think that the name Givenchy is strong enough to allowed a designer that failed in "commerce".

Frida Giannini can reinvent herself like Philo did. She was great at accessories and can maintain Givenchy where it is.

Pilati is a great designer but he is too intellectual for Dior or Givenchy. He needs to work for a house like Hermes or Lanvin.

I really don't believe that Phoebe Philo will leave Celine anytime soon. She recreated the brand at her image. She is Celine and her success allowed her to work in the best conditions ever. Not all designers wants to be big!

And Karl Lagerfeld. Can we stop putting him in those discussions:rofl:
He was very instrumental in LVMH buying Fendi as (remember) he created the Fendi logo and earned a lot of money from that. He will never leave Fendi or Chanel. He said many times that he has lifetime contracts.

oh! SACAI at Givenchy!!! It could be good!

i love the luxury rebel Tomas Maier :crush: impressive work he did for Bottega and he has a respectable education and solid vita:flower:

Where can we take a look at Theyskens Theory sales? He was appointed to be in charge of the whole Theory creative direction shortly before leaving, I guess his line was not doing a bad job then?
