Raf Simons Mens F/W 06.07 Paris

Yep, as Jb said in his reply, you are spot on. The main reason behind Raf's FW 05 collection, which was more grown up, was exactly that, as stated by Raf
I'm thinking in the long-term also... What if in 20 years we see the same men, aged and worn with time... will the clothing reflect that aesthetically in some way? I'm excited to see the progression...

Heh, wouldn't that be cool? I wouldn't mind - since I am in the same ballpark age wise.

Why not? :) I kinda see Raf becoming like Rick Owens, in that Raf Simons' clothing is becoming less age-oriented and restrictive in the way it is styled, and more about a specific set of reworked aesthetics and formal elements (puffy jackets, volume, geometry, etc). I could see a good deal of this collection working on men of various ages.

My girlfriend and I looked at the A/W Raf stuff in Dover Street Market today and I wanted a lot of the knitted things badly. Has anyone tried on one of those roll-neck scarf creations without a sweater attached? They actually look good, even on me. You end up with a hoop of wool hanging down which you can stick your arms through to turn the whole thing into a kind of male bolero with polar neck. Don't laugh!

Anyway, wallet fear drove me home to yoox, where there seem to be quite a lot of interesting old Raf knits. I hate buying unseen on the internet though, and yoox never say which collection a piece comes from. Does anyone recognise any of the attached photos from having seem them in the flesh and remember which season they belong to? I've included a lovely-looking jacket, too, which I'm toying with the idea of spending nearly £500 on, sight-unseen.

I'm sure this is not the proper place to ask this but I think I might just get some useful answers.

dontbecruel, this are indeed from FW05, as nqth pointed out. The wool is very rough, and they are VERY fitted. You have to be skinny to wear these... which sucks for me, otherwise you would see them in my closet, instead of on YOOX, because they are some of the most beautiful knits I've ever seen/touched.

What I shame Faust. I don't think I am the man to carry them off either then. I suppose I should have known there would be a reason why they didn't sell at full price.

Raf's sizing is less than generous I think. Every time I squeeze into my size 50 Raf trousers (I wear 46 or 48 with anyone else) I feel like a fat oaf. And there's a Raf shirt on ebay at the moment, sized at 52 but measured up as 19 inches across the chest. Surely a 52 should be bigger than that. Perhaps he is economising on fabric.

 Welcome to my life!

Is raf usually cut that small? I've been eyeing a few things on yoox and i would rather not deal with returns...

Usually, Raf's stuff is either skinny or oversized. He used to cut some stuff normally and some skinny, but these days it's like he's bipolar...

Lol he could sue for the bipolar comment :p Those sweathers look fairly 'normal' fitting for raf, but as faust said, some pieces are cut volumously and some skinny like Hedi. Casual pieces like hooded sweatshirts and t's are normally over-sized. Yoox prices arent that much cheaper than what some pieces retailed at, and prices havent changed too much I foubd, so you might be better off with some of the latest gear you saw at DSM.

I agree with Jason, you are better off getting current season stuff because you can try it on... yoox prices are only slightly cheaper than or sometimes equal to the original retail price (most of the time)... you are better off paying retail for something that is current season as oppose to paying retail for something from 2 seasons ago... but that might change as soon as yoox goes on sale... (anyone know when?)

On another note, i bought the white sweater with the black design that you have in the pictures, but mine is grey and purple, same design though... the wool is very thick and the cut is very slim... i had to buy a size up but it looks great i really like it..

I was only considering the yoox things because they were half the price of this season's sweaters. £125 versus £250 is a big difference to me.

maybe im a bit off on Raf's retail pricing.. i remember i got my sweater for about £80 but that was during the final sale which i think was 60% off... which means retail was about £200.. i wouldnt be surprised if these seasons sweaters are more expensive because they seem to have a raised pattern which i assume is harder to produce..

I was wrong about the retail on the sweater, i just checked the reciept and the retail was almost GBP300, so yoox is selling it at a discount...

I tried on this sweater today, it retailed for HKD4699 so about 470 Euros... i liked it... the fit was slim, similar to last F/W sweaters but it isnt made of itchy wool... i wasnt too fond of the turtle neck.. but other then that it was really nice...
