Raf Simons Mens F/W 06.07 Paris

Some of it's quite good, but I don't understand jumpers. Only the bullied wear jumpers. That weird zip jacket is definitely ruddy weird, and only the demented would wear it.

And collarless shirts are for those with no dignity.

i am just curious, woman, what do you wear?

beautiful show, and silhouettes..

but must the models always be so hideous looking?...gross. I'm so bored of this re-using of models...ethnic speaking- couldnt he have found more attractive models then the 2 he used..?:ninja:

i'm tired of this model already..

Raf has always opposed the traditional perceptions of male beauty..
i like the fact that raf uses models like the person above... and i am pretty sure he knows his models pretty well and is good friends with some...he mentions something about it in his old interviews..
personal conceptions of any form of beauty are culturally subjective...to be honest dont think the words "beauty..and glamour" belong in mens fashion IMHO.. its all about the clothes...and also..id any day have the above model on a runway than some spray tanned bulky D&G/cavalli model:yuk:(some ppl love that).... :innocent:and too many pale faces can be a bit boring:p..

^that model is plenty attractive in my books. A refreshing change from the girly scarecrows at Dior.

Gorgeous collection. I don't usually 'feel' men's fashion (i like a basic type of bloke) but I'd love to see this stuff on my dude. Much of it nears perfection. Kicks Slimane's *** this season, there is no doubt!

All of his models are his friends from Antwerp - he used the same guys since day 1. Now that's pretty damn cool.

Sometimes I'm not sure what to think about the post people make on this board...

Who the hell cares if the models are attractive? Well, apparently you do, but some of us look at fashion shows for the fashion, not the models. I've never understood the fascination people have with models.

Besides attractiveness is quite subjective. I'm sure there are men and women out there who find the model (you decided to single out) attractive.

haha...maybe those they called "hideous looking" models ruined their fantasy about 1) who they are going to look like 2) who are they are supposed to attracted to when they wear the clothes

Its all a business. subjective, cruel, passionate...a business nonetheless.

However, most people who are "fascinated" with models, are people who work directly with them.

bookers, casting agents, agents, scouts, photographers, PR..ect ect.

there are lots of people who sit front row at shows just to view the models, to see 'whos new-whos this-whos that-who do we want' its another job..in this industry.

there are lots of people who are backstage at shows, and who's very job is just to service the models. whether it be hair, make-up, wardrobe, look changers, more photographers, journalist, scouts, you name it.

if their looks didnt matter...they wouldnt have castings, bookers wouldnt have jobs, and every john doe off the street would be in high-end couture.

i personally, dont find that particular model (yes, the one i singled out) 'model material' commerical, editorial, or runway, and I would never send him out on castings, or test shoot for that matter. So i guess it works to have the job i do. And as far as others finding him attractive, well duh. you said it yourself..beauty is subjective.

but i suppose i posted this in the wrong thread, that i do apologise for..i should have used the model i-d one, er something.

alexander mcqueen casts' beautiful ethnic models to walk for his menswear shows...i just dont understand rafs preferences, but after all..they are his. & i wasnt debating that.

i just dont find dried lips (ashy) or dried hands appropriate, let alone...to be seen on the runway.:ninja:

PS. i wonder how mario or steven would reply to this "who the hell cares about models" thought. that'd be quite the battle:lol:

Hey, can we cut out the bitchiness and personal attacks? Accept that many posters may disagree with you, and have as much right as you in expressing their opinions, regardless of their looks or ethnicity. You can fire right back, debate his points if you must, there is no need to go "personal". Digging out and posting pictures like that without their owners' permission is obsessive and intrusive (even though Vaz/FadetoBlack has nothing to hide, he looks much better than his avatar). How would you like it if it were the reverse, someone digs out your picture, posts it online, and then ascribes all kinds of intentions or "hidden motives" and pychoanalyses you, because he disagrees with your opinion?

Stay on topic please, this is about Raf Simons, his clothes, models, etc.

Given that fact, I wonder then, if along the way Raf's work will mature in some way with the models themselves.

edit: I don't know why chicgarcon can't discuss things in an adult manner, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind him gone.

yes andrew, to answer your question, in an interview with i-D magazine raf talked about one of his models asking for a "suit" as they got older, and how they're maturing influences his collections...i think that's true inspiration from models!

...and yes, i agree with andrew and zazie

^ That's really interesting. I wonder how much the character traits and physical characteristics of his models impact upon each piece and the collection overall..

Yep, as Jb said in his reply, you are spot on. The main reason behind Raf's FW 05 collection, which was more grown up, was exactly that, as stated by Raf
