Red Hair

Haha! You should see my pillows, just a patch of insanely bright orange, my shirt collars and all my towels, orange. However, I love being stopped several times a day to be told that people love my hair color, it makes me feel better seeing as I'm a bit of a fatty at the moment from a bad sleeping pattern and always being ill. Ginger rules!

As an aside, the best orange hair dye that i've found is napalm orange by special effects. It's american though, which is a total pain in the bum!

I like napalm orange. But I think I am going to g back to manic panic tiger lily.

I'm naturally strawberry blond, and have only colored my hair (temporary) once... today at the store I bought some red temporary hair color... we'll see how it turns out. It's nothing crazy... Fingers crossed, especially since my wedding is in 4 months (sometimes this temporary dyes end up not being so temporary)

Shampoo and Conditioner

I was wondering what shampoo and conditioner everyone used to keep their red hair nice and bright!

^ John Frieda has a line of hair care geared towards your particular color... maybe check out his products?

Does anyone dye their hair red at home? If so, what brand of dye do you use?

i dye my hair at home using henna. it rocks as it keeps my hair healthy and never dyes off. cons? it NEVER dyes off. if you don't like it you'll be stuck with it, so it's a great step to make.
pros: it also gives a new dimension to your hair, as it only gives you tone over your natural or dyed tone.. so if you have light brown under it, at the sun it'll look coopery and at night it might look light brown again, which makes it look more natural. you can also dye your hair under it, so if you wanna be a light redhead and your hair is brown, you can dye it and then henna it to get a natural colour, instead of mixing dyes and killing your hair.. henna kind of repairs the damage of dyes, and you will only need to dye ur roots.

I love Florence Welch's hair.

i recenty dyed my mouse brown hair orangey red. my inspiration was vlada in the f/w 09 season. its not an exact match, but its pretty close and i love it! i get alot of compliments, and it flatters my fair skin so much more then my natural brown did. to anyone who is considering it but is a bit scared...DO IT!! its so worth the small risk that it won't turn out or you won't like it.

I really want to enhance the colour of my natural red hair but don't want to completely dye. Do you think highlights and low lights would work or would a (red) gloss be more effective? I've never done anything to my hair before so Im a bit confused about it all.

for reference my hair is pretty much this colour naturally:

and Id like it to be a bit more like this:

ive always wanted to be a redhead.
so back in december i got my friend who works at a salon to dye it a nice dark red.
now its faded to what looks like brown, unless im in the light.

when i get my tax return im going to make an appointment and go for a purpley red like Kathryn Prescott on Skins.
or something brighter.

what shade of red tends to stick longer ?

My current shade. Excuse the frizz. It's very humid here

I think that with red hair dye colourmefashion you just gotta keep doing it. You've really gotta get that color in good. When I first dyed mine frommy dark blonde shade to auburn the color just kinda sat on top and faded so fast. Now that'd I've been dying it for 1 1/2 years the color really lasts with the use of great products.

My first time dying it red. Color was pretty but hadn't really penetrated the shaft and was rich like I wanted...when it faded I had barely strawberry blonde hair.

This was the 6th or 7th time I dyed it. The color is really rich and stuck in very well. When it faded I looked like a natural Irish red.

This was after over a year of dyeing it. I hadn't had it done in a month and the color still looks amazing.:woot: I like Frederic fakkai color protecting gloss or something. it really keeps the color rich.

Oh, i did a shade kinda like that! I loved it. She used this cherry red shade. it was crazy dark and purple when it was first done but faded to a pretty true red.

When it was first done

About 3 weeks after it was done. The red dye faded and mixed with the previous copper dye. Loved how it looked.
