I've been dying my hair red for the last year or so...
My natural colour is:

and i used LUSH Henna (Caca Rouge its called) to make it this colour

.
after 2-3 months it fades a bit to this

which I think still looks good :D
and the Henna smells so lovely - it's just a bit messy!

love that pic jenna maria. Emma your shade is so pretty-even when it's faded.

I got my hair done today. I wanted something bolder and more saturated. She mixed red copper with some normal red. It's this really rich berry shade now. She says after about a week it will fade into the copper that's already there and look brighter.

my hair's been getting really faded and brassy lately... it tends to retain the red really well by now but my natural hair colour is so light that it fades to a nasty orange so quickly! i've had it really bright copper for a while now but i think i'm going to get it done a bit more neutral today, maybe more of a brownish-red with some balayage strawberry blonde or so to look more natural/subtle?? i'm hoping some deeper tones will get rid of the weird orange i've got going on...

Thanks ya'll. It's been a week and the color has faded quite a bit like I wanted. It mixed into my previous ginger shade. It's a beautiful auburn in person. I've got a lot of compliments at work.

ill post a picture when i get home from getting it done to see how it turns out!

i'm sick of my red fading after a week! agggh.

Me too. I have to dye it one a sodding week right now for it not to be a faded ugly mess. Why can't science make it stay!

Have you tried that John Frieda shampoo and conditioner that is supposed to be made to keep the color?

nope but i find john frieda products terrible. i used toni and guy to keep the colour and a few other brands but it doesn't seem to make any difference. red just won't stay. once i have some cash i'll try tigi and redken. i've used boxed dyes and salon dyes...red really is just evil!

My mum has red put into her hair and the woman who does it mixes a special solution for her so that she can apply it directly to the red parts to keep their color.

That is obviously the biggest issue with dying red - it's hard to stick. Stay out of the sun as much as possible and wash your hair as infrequently as possible, and when you do wash, make sure to use something that is for people with dyed red hair. Other than that....unfortunately, there is not much more you can do....

Everytime I see Florence Welch's hair I feel the urge to get my own hair dyed red...

Ive been using both for about a year now and its true they dont work, the dye keeps fading away but they leave my hair so soft and gorgeous so i keep using them:P
