Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garcons for H&M Designer Collection

anyway...it's rei going to extremes!
and: she did children's before, but only for the Tokyo store if I remember right.

Interesting note: Rei is the second woman (Stella was the first) and the first Japanese chosen to do the H&M designer line.

:D :D :D :D :D
I will skip school for this, muhe. I can't wait to see what it looks like! Much more exciting than Roberto Cavalli..

I really can't believe it ..

And I'm also wondering if some people will give up their hardcore opinions on designer collaborations just because it's Rei.:innocent:

i've never really been against these collaborations myself. only when they lose their spirit am i critical. and i hope this turns out great because i adore rei and i trust her motives. and i think anything to allow her aesthetics more access to true fans of her work that can't exactly afford the main lines,it's a brilliant idea. that is,if it will be anything like the main collections. as WiW said,if it's anything like Play or just graphic t'shirts i will be rather disappointed.

I've ranted about it before but Rei is no stranger to commercial products. For all the conceptual and abstract ideas she puts on her runways there are scores of PLAY polos, Tricot sweaters, cologne, wallets, and many other uber commercial merchandise. She's not lying to herself about running a business and perhaps it's with this awareness that she often staunchly opposes calling herself an artist.

I don't find working with H&M too surprising in that sense. I hope however Rei takes it as an opportunity to innovate this niche rather than, as Softgrey mentioned, use it to sell more embellished t-shirts and other easy and not nearly as provocative clothing.

I'm pretty sure I'll be calling off work on the release day.

I can't wait

I'm not sure how it will be balanced though , I really hope it isn't just t-shirts.

does anybody know when the release will actually be? i might be in paris at the end of september but if it's out in the summer i might have to visit some relatives in boston just so i can check it out...hehe

i'm in a state of shock:shock:...
good points here,. though. it didn't occur to me at first, but this does have the potential to be painfully commercial. all i know is that this might be epic..:ninja:

the info is in the article above..

he collaborative line will launch exclusively at H&M in Tokyo in November before being rolled out worldwide a few days later.

The way I see it...

Is that someone like Stella McCartney was a more suitable choice as many of her clothes are trend driven, and not too far off what you might find in H&M anyway..

De-construction and tailoring cannot be made cheap.

But I really hope I'm proven wrong.

What is funny is that.. as the masses were starting to go off 'designer for..' ranges, realising that is generally crap and all hype.
Rei comes in and starts designing.. I'm predicting greedy eBay sellers..ugh

sorry....missed that bit. thanks softie.

this is the first time i've ever wished i had an h&m near me

epic battle shaping up between my hatred for waiting in lines/queues and my desire for a piece of the action!

smart money is on me staying out of lines/queues

ew. if it looks like her own runway stuff, i'll fullheartedly pass on this on.

at least the avante garde crowd will have a feast.

why is H&M publicizing this so early? theyve completely removed the element of surprise...:rolleyes:i think its a bonehead business move if you ask me.

all these other collaborations for other stores (target, uniqlo, target australia) are only revealed a few months previously...

hopefully, and most likely she is looking at this as a challenge she couldn't resist. I have high hopes for it. I'm sure the manufacturing will be outsourced to save cost but think how cool this might be. I'm looking forward to it with high anticipation, because, even though it seems like a bizarre match she's mad enough to pull it off and I mean that in the most respectful way.

Holy S*****! I Just Chocked On My Food! The Savings Start Now!

H&M usually announces their designer line pretty early, though usually later than this. I think Cavalli was announced June 2007.
