RIP Alexander McQueen CBE 1969 - 2010

just woke up and saw it on the news, i am in shock.
truly a one of a kind designer, who created moving works of art and pushed boundaries of fashion
may he rest in peace, and may his work never be forgotton!!!

Professor Wilson's comment is exactly right. I'm still in denial of all of this. No we'll never get to meet him

I just found out about his death on another website, and I still can't believe it. I'm totally shocked.
Such a sad loss. :(

This is just heart-wrenching. The fashion world (nay the world) has lost one of its greats :(

Wow this is so devastating, he was such a talent. Wow. The fashion world lost a real gem today :( such sad news, gosh!!

I feel like everything should be black and in mourning.

Alexander McQueen was one of the moving forces of modern day fashion. It always sounds like such an empty phrase, but he truly pushed boundaries and I cannot think of any other designer of his generation who can measure up to his vision, his fantasy.

His Oyster dress is, to me, a new Junon. We will all suffer from this loss. To think what he could have done for this business in another 40 years breaks my heart.

I know its childish, but I just want him back right now. I cannot bear with this.

Thank you for posting all those wonderful pictures, Inaya. The second one with Gemma in this gown always moves me, it feels so good and so terribly sad to watch it now :(
 I feel the same way.. it's so melancholic.

There have been, are and will be so many great designers, but no one will ever be like McQueen. He possessed such a complex, diverse and deeply layered force of creative talent that no matter what theme he was going for... not only the clothing, but the presentation and overall experience was totally unmatched.

Though his work shifted and shook through different dimensions; from whimsicality to futuristic through the years, his presentations ranging from demented to straightforward and flashy... his overall vision was always complete and distinctly him, no matter the style. Finding out now, that he carried such a terrible pain inside that was more powerful than any of the joys that life has to offer, and looking back on his unapologetic works and presentations... it seems all the more poetic and telling of a deeply genial soul.

I just hope he is at peace now and will be forever thankful for the glimpses of his unique and beautiful point of view on the world, that he shared with us all.:heart:

rip mcqueen...i will always remember you and the way you inspired me for fashion and life. I will cherish every piece i own from your collections.

So... whats gonna happen to his F/W 10/11 collection...?
they were just talking about it on CNN. There are a lot of sketches but some looks have been made, which doesn't necessarily mean they're 'finished'.. I'm not sure the team will go as far as completing them, since a lot of the crucial changes were made by him during the last days or even minutes.. I honestly think the works for the collection should be shown as a tribute, for people to see what he was working on but not push it or attempt to finish it.. let alone release it for sale. that would be.. outrageous. but I can totally see that happening pretty much a la Jeff Buckley's 'Sketches for my sweetheart'..

Seeing this on the news really breaks my heart :cry:I had to come to tfs cause none of my friend would really understand this.

R.I.P.

There are many talented designers. But there are few true artists. McQueen was one of the latter.

When I looked at his clothes, I felt the same shift inside myself that I feel in listening to a beautiful piece of music or of poetry or prose.

He has left behind a body of work of heart stopping beauty and of vast depth and breadth

I truly saddened by his tragic death.
