The runways produce a fair amount of rock INSPIRED outfits, but I don't feel like they're very genuine looking. Most of those outfits are very hipster-like and are totally phony and try-hard..... I am really not a fan at all, even the hipster poster boy Pete Doherty AND the Dior Homme SS 06 show is heavily fake.

For rock n roll outfits, I'd much rather get inspiration from the streets or from "authentic" rockers....

I don't like faux rockers that wear skulls everywhere, with their wrist "warmers", a few tattoos here and there, black nail polish, ultra pricey hair cut, and Dior homme scarf... I don't find that very rock n roll..... :ermm:

I don't mind..I like the 'inspired' look on runway, I think the model guys pull it off very nicely. Agree about Dior Homme S/S 06 though..although it's bearable, kinda. I prefer 2001/2 Dior Homme, I think it's gorgeous.
And I never see anybody wear this style here..everybody's either too conservative or hip-hopish..:yuk:, so I don't really care much about the hipster thing because it doesn't really affect me. I just like the clothes..

But, we already have a thread on musician's style if you want the real thing. ;)

they all look so young, like they're wearing their dad's clothes.
the blondie look like a judas Priest thing sort of.
a bit 80's.
hmmm, 'real' rockers...?
I mean I know what you're saying, but all rockers are in effect actors. You know. So, it's like wrestling. All fake.
Jimi Hendrix said a good artist know how to tell a good lie, and a good truth.....
or something like that.
anyways...
just an idea

oh sonny you're not really that old.

i know, i know, Goose...;) but self pity is sometimes good...;) esp. if you have nice friends to cheer u up like in this case, ha, ha, ha...

about the dior rock style thing... sure it does not look genuine at all. most of those guys look like they are dressed in disguise... still i like some of those outfits... although the male models are so young, thin and gorgeous that it takes a lot of my energy to focus on their clothes... confusing... (dont blame me, guys in my area look crap!)

Sonny xxx

oh, not sure if we are an example of rock style but i enjoyed some live pete doherty pics and esp. those live Adam Green pics (he was the guy who recommended my best friend some cool pubs and clubs to go to in NYC when we visited the city last Easter), so i decided to post this silly pic.

this pic wasnt taken in NYC though, but almost two years back in Bilbao at the backstage of this British band called Hoggboy. i am the one looking drunk and sat down on the drummers' knees:lol: the other girl is one of my closest friends (actually she is also my best friend's sister).

ciao! Sonny xxx

I think it's because rockers are supposed to be rebels.... ...they're not supposed to dressed up (based on their vision of our materialistic society) in trendy and costly labels.... as opposed to the so called "rockers" of our time who just try to look like them....

ohh... but that is so idealistic, baby... these days even real rockers are as money hungry as everyone else... i know some of them who are less open minded than many other people i know with an office job. sad but true...Sonny xxx

Could not agree more....

Little Richard, Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix all liked to dress very flash... it's an old tradition among blues players for sure.

It is important to a lot of people coming from poverty that once they start making money, they want to show it off.

It may seem ironic that for Little Richard, Elvis and Hendrix, all of whom were scandalous rebels in their time, the desire to show off their wealth "overpowered" their rebelliousness. However, I doubt that any of them saw a conflict; more likely, they felt it was a further slap in the face to the establishment that they, being the oversexed freaks (!) that they were, wanted to spend lots of money on flashy clothes that flaunted their success as well as their sensuality.

A lot of the modern bands do not really come from poverty so for them the motivation is different, and more "poseur-ish", as has been suggested.

On the other hand, bands like the Velvet Underground, The Ramones and Nirvana obviously never took the clothing part too seriously. :p

^ Agree with you Tangerine. I personally think the trend itself looks best when the person is not trying too hard and it just looks a lot more natural on them....

It's funny how things changed: poor people used to dress "poorly", while rich people wore Chanel and got the best suits. And now rich people are trying to look scruffy and rebellious, while poor people wear fake accessories to look rich... Of course I am extremely exaggerating and stereotyping, but I've seen a lot of people like that.... !

It's really important for clothes to reflect one's personality. Rock n roll outfits may look great on someone who's a true rocker at heart, but if you're not really into it, but want to look cool, it simply WON'T work.

Well, I do agree with you here..:flower:
It's quite ironic isn't it..the whole rich/poor thing. But I like Dior Homme and Ann Dem., etc. for inspiration. I no way have the money to buy designer stuff. I like the styling of these collections and I admit they're usually overpriced..the rock n roll look is gorgeous if you actually go through thrift stores and things and find good stuff there for relatively cheap. I also can see how it can be annoying for someone to be decked in rock n roll style clothing but come back home and blast on something like Green Day or Linkin Park or whatever. :ninja:
True..the best days of rock n roll are in the past..but I still enjoy this look by people who pull it off well and have the right 'vibe'. ;)

Well..I do agree with yo

Could not agree more x2. And Sonny, just because these talentless sellouts exist, it does not mean we have to accept them. I would rather be idealistic, baby.
