Rodarte S/S 11 New York

I've always liked what Kate and Laura have done at Rodarte but I was not fully convinced when I saw this. I do love the olive greens and basic items of clothing /the white shirt worn with beautiful waist trousers/ tremendously, but strongly dislike the exaggerated shapes /esp. on the hips/ and weird cuts. That said, I loved the colour theme they were going for. The earth tones of dark plum, a palette of darker and lighter browns and blues, tans and whites mixed with gold. I think they did a wonderful job and it will be well-received by the public.

Like it! These girls are so talented; the one criticism that stands out for me is that some of the looks/colours don't exactly scream "spring/summer." At times the colours/prints seem fall-ish. Love what they've done with all the high-waists.

This was great, I wish the color palette & prints weren't so Fall/Winter but overall a good collection. ALTHOUGH, I must say I absolutely cringed and DIED when I saw Kate's Dirty Nike sneakers. Seriously Kate barefoot would have been better... Please burn those immediately!

i feel like they did this really well, when i looked at the collection again i saw that some of those print couldve been horrible

I see a lot of Miu Miu and Prada here

that's the first thing i thought as well.

compared to other rodarte collections, i like this (probably because i don't see much rodarte in as much as i see prada). love the colors even though it's very fall.

it still and always looks so amateurish. like bad student work.. :ninja:

but the hair and the make-up is cute.

Wow Rodarte, I'm actually impressed with you. You did a pretty darn good job when you step outside your comfort zone and do something new. Loved many of the pieces. Was not too sure about the wood panelling but it does play out alright in a way.

Rodarte has never had anything to do with McQueen, so why start with this collection? The Prada accusations I can understand but not McQueen.

This is the first Rodarte collection I must honestly say I don't know if I like.
I was such an avid fan of their past work.
Will have to spend some time with this one.

At first sight it seems stiff, badly cut, experimental in an inconclusive way.
Maybe next season they will develop the ideas more fully.

And...lastly, this is S/S, no?? It's a bit heavy...

I could see Miuccia designing this. I really love it and am glad to see Rodarte going in this direction... clothing that look like a cat¡s claws got a hold of them can only go so many seasons without getting boring. The color is very down my alley and the make-up is great!

I want to like this because it is something very different for them, and I can certainly appreciate the fact that they seemed intent to move forward, but it's just not working for me. The stiffness of some of the looks is kind of unappealing, especially now that so many designers are embracing movement and fluidity after a few years of structure, structure, structure. I guess that was them wanting to get away from the ethereal, drapey corner they painted themselves into, but I think the pendulum swung too far in the opposite direction.

But I am interested in seeing where they'll go next.

while i largely agree with this sentiment, i'm just thankful that my worst nightmare did not come true. i had a dream that rodarte would put out a collection totally different from what we've seen in seasons past and this entire board would light up with "they do nothing but the same thing" posts all over again. thankfully, that didn't happen. however, i hope this proves to the fashion blogosphere and to the designers, that different isn't necessarily better. while i still find their talent shy-making -- honestly, any one of these pieces could easily get paired with a white oxford or designer denim, and the appropriate "it" accessories make a splash on the street -- i didn't find myself taken to that near-religious place as in collections past.

My god, they're truly talented showgirls. I love how they arranged the venue this season. Is it in the same venue as always? It looked more intimate and small this time, like if it were an art gallery.
