Runner Thread (All About Running)

I have run intervals lately, they really make difference!

Has anyone else miCoach or any other support systems such as heart rate motitors? I bought miCoach because I hoped it will support and motivate me, and even if it has many flaws, I have run 3 times a week according my plan, so it kind of works.

I'm not a fast jogger (10K takes about 51-55 min) so the music on my Ipod's running playlist is not at all "beat per minute" chosen (I ran to Us from Regina Spector during my half marathon just to give an example) but I've read about how music can make you run faster.
I'm not a fan of 50 Cent's music but his song Get Up is made for jogging. I love the part when he says:
I have the South warfare
I'm the reason everybody hate, I say (get up!)
I make it hot, I make it hot in here

Your feet hurtin? I really don't care, I said (get up!)
I wanna see, I, I wanna see ya move
And get all into the groove, I say (get up!)
I'm gettin money man, I really don't care
Let me see you put your *** in the air, I said (get up!)
:ninja::lol:B)

I am about to buy new running shoes.
Tell me your favourite pair of running shoes!?
I have now some basic asics shoes but I wanna try something new, there just is sooooo many shoes to choose from so I need some reviews and advices.

Ooh, Get up sounds good :D. Gotta try that too. Thanks for the tip :flower:. That's exactly the thing about jogging to music, the lyrics and the beat can inspire you so much. I recently added Bohemian like you by the Dandy Warhols to my run playlist, and it works great in the middle of my run.

As for shoes, I think I wrote about my own personal favourites: Mizuno Wave Inspire. I've heard great things about the Saucony brand also. But I'm an overpronator so I'm not sure if this helps you Jenna-Maria. But for what it's worth, I love my Mizunos.

I was wondering also, I recently bought a Garmin Forerunner 405CX watch (with GPS and heart rate monitor). I don't think I have the hang of it yet and I've been having problems specially with the heart rate monitor. Today I ran for 11.4 km, but at the end the watch had just registered about 61 calories, which can't be right. Does anyone know if there's something you have to do for this to work?

How do you runners run without stopping? I feel like Im not mentally strong enough to go at a greater distance. I would run for a few minutes then when things start to hurt and I breath really heavily I stop! So then I would do a fast walk then slowly start running again then stop! and over and over again. What do you guys do to keep going?

I love running to "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine. The hard thing is to not sing along too much to it..

Sun_Goddess01, I think you're not used to jog a lot, so try to jog regularly.. :) Also, music makes it a lot easier (for me at least!).

running to kasabian is amazing!! the best has to be running to "Fire" you feel kinda afraid to stop running - its like our being chased!!! x

I came across this thread recently and since I feel motivated enough to run.
I usually run outdoor, in a place where there is trees, birds, etc. but now the weather is so cold in the north of France...
So I hit the treadmill for the first time. I never really liked the idea about running on a treadmill but all of you made me change my mind.
And now I want to run every day !

I usually run outside (up and down hills) 3-4x a week. I used to run on treadmills when I had a gym membership the past 6 years. I like running outside now but I feel like I am not toning my arms! It could be my body type.. does anyone else have to do pushups, etc to tone out their arms in addition to running? I mean I know you are supposed to do a combination of workouts to tone your entire body but in the past I felt like my arms became toned from just running...

Guys, I maintain slow-pace running because it's said to make legs thinner while changing-pace running does otherwise. Is it true ? If I use biker pants, will that help ?

what kind of earphones do you guys use while running? i've tried earbuds, traditional over-the-ear headphones, and those little C-clip ones that go over your ears, and they all fall off (I'm a sprinter so my running isn't slow and smooth). any recommendations for a style that will stay on? it's so hard for me to motivate myself without music.

Yeah, first trademill can be bit boring and it sounds boring but in the winter it is the only wy to do running workout. I hate running in cold
:ninja:
My new addiction is to mix running and power walking. I usually do it from 45min to 60min.

In summer when I run outside I do some push-ups after that (at home) and I bought dumbbells that I can change weights. It is great, I love it. I can do different kind of workouts for my arms
:woot:
At gym, I go to trademill and to bodypump after that.
It is so much fun.

Yesterday I went running at the gym and it turned bad. After ten minutes I had to stop because my rigt calf hurted sooo much. I think I got a muscle strained. I'm going to calm down for a while... and buy a better pair of trainers !

I use the C-Clip type (I sweat something fierce and this style works best for me). Specifically, I use a Phillips pair that I got at the Apple Store.

I love BodyPump!!! It really mixes up my workouts during the week!

There is soooooooo much snow outside. I haven't been able to jog for weeks and weeks it seems. I've been running on the treadmil, but it's just not the same. I've seen people jogging outdoors these past few days, in spite of the snow (and the ice) and I feel so envious :ninja:. I tried jogging yesterday, but in the end I had to admit I was mostly walking, and barely that even. How do people manage not to slip on the snow????

^ i have no idea. i cant, it's waaaay too much snow, and its -15 degrees c outside, which just makes me want to stay inside.

I need to focus my energy on something so I'm going to start running next week. Just went to shop for some clothes, but running gear is really hidious :ninja:.
