Saint Laurent F/W 13.14 Paris

I don't really understand why you guys keep discusing about this collection, it was so ugly it doesn't even deserve all this time you've been spending on it.

You can destroy your own brand, not a brand that a designer likes Yves took decades to make it iconic and relevant not only in France but in the whole world.

People may like some pieces from the collection, that's no problem, but look at the title, it's not some urban brand, that's just around the corner, it's Yves Saint Laurent, come on....

Everything you said is so true, it's clear that Hedi isn't the best option for YSL. I don't have any problem with the name change (it doesn't change my idea of the amazing brand YSL is), but they all should take a look at Hedi's two collections for the brand and see that he isn't doing a great job at all. I rly had high expectations for what he was going to do and I couldn't be more disappointed

Does the collection not even have to be posted in these threads anymore?
Will anyone do me the favour of posting the actual pictures of collection?

I've read 20 pages of meltdowns, and I admit the commentary is fabulous and entertaining.

But I'd love to see what people are actually commenting on -- I've only seen about 5 different looks sprinkled thorughout the thread -- don't tell me the collection was only 5 pieces long?

Yes, UpperEchelon, I am aware of that. But all other times I've come to these threads the full collection is posted, often in small-, mid-, and HQ type photos. This time, this isn't done, just curious why -- just commentary on this collection, not the pictures of the full collection itself? I once saw a TFS Member's thread was deleted because they did not post pictures from the collection....? I am the only one who thinks it's weird to read 20 posts describing something that also isn't posted within the thread? I will go to Style.com, but I think the question is a reasonable one.

This collection is really bad, and I'm really sorry but the people who deffend it don't know what good fashion is. This is the most disrespectful thing a designer can do to another designer brand (especialy Yves).

And as some critic said the only people who liked where Kirsten Dunst, Sky Ferreira and so on...soo........no.

Will PPR fire him?! They have reasons too, and they sure know what the reactions were, and what this iconic french house was before Slimane's troubled addicted to drugs rocker girl hell.

From now on when I see something horrible I will say:
"He's pulling a Saint Laurent"

Oh and don't forget Courtney Love's glowing review, praise from someone who really matters

Courtney Love has 3 collections "dadicated" to her style (MJ's Perry Ellis, Anna Sui and now SLP) and she's been a muse for Riccardo's Givenchy. So in a way it matters what she thinks about Hedi "stealing" from her old closet.

I love that rich ladies are going to pay a fortune to look like we used to look when we had nothing

I find it amusing that no one sees the irony in this collection while a crackhead can

Well since she slammed MJ's take on grunge I'm not sure that collection can really be associated with her anymore.

And I dont think it's that people don't see the irony, it's just that most people don't see irony as a key element of a good collection.

This is an excellent point and leads to the only key to unlocking this strange strange collection. Is it about irony? Probably. Definitely. Is irony on its own interesting enough? Skeptical. There are a lot of layers of critique that can be read into this. In a way, yes, this collection is brilliant. There is a perverse idea behind it, that it could even exist, that says so much about contemporary culture and our lives today and it is shocking. That's probably why there's so much animosity towards it, it's unnerving, it shows us how awful fashion has really become but it is only the honest reflection of the system. So the shame is deflected. I get that. But the clothes don't hold up.

I think we are all mistaken about this new Saint Laurent. It's not for Kate Moss, it's not for Betty Catroux, it's not for either muse of either era, it's for Lena Dunham. Seriously, you could costume the entire core female cast of Girls in this and no one would know the wiser.

and with them half of the young female downtown population.
now you see the commercial appeal of this?! rich girls wanting to look hipser/grunge/whatever this look is

And I dont think it's that people don't see the irony, it's just that most people don't see irony as a key element of a good collection.

fair enough.
but the overreacting in this thread is just too much for me :D

Has anyone other than myself seen Hedi's SLP clothes hanging somewhere in a department and think any different than their negative opinion based on what they saw on the runway?

I just can't imagine how you walk in SL butique and see hanging flannel tops or that muti-belted skirt....

Hedi Slimane’s much-debated Saint Laurent Fall 2013 collection just received its first official stamp of approval from the fashion in-crowd–and no, we’re not talking about Courtney Love.

At last night’s CR Fashion Book party in Paris, just one day after Slimane sent his emaciated, grunged-out ’90s girls a-stomping, eternal Queen of Cool Kate Moss donned pieces from the collection as seen in Look 6–including sheer tights embellished with what appear to be tiny pompoms and a matching sheer top–or maybe it’s actually an entire sheer body stocking? While Slimane styled the pieces with a strapless leather mini and flat ankle boots, Mossy took a bare approach–letting her other cheeks breathe a bit in a bodysuit, blazer, and stiletto booties.

We reached out to Saint Laurent for confirmation on the model’s outfit and received this rather elated response:

“We are delighted to confirm Kate Moss was wearing Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2013 at the CR Fashion Book party.”

Say what you will about Slimane’s Saint Laurent, but he sure knows how to cater to his clientele–and an endorsement from Ms. Moss is nothing to snuff at.

So much "irony"...not surprising as Slimane appears to be rusted over. I really hate it when self-indulgent fashion persons try unsuccessfully to be satiric...come now, we know you're no Wittgenstein, save the "wit" for the "It" Girls and "It" Middle-Aged Ladies. (Oh dear ...Kate Moss looks....)The details are sumptuous, attesting to the skills of the atelier, but what a waste on such a collection.

I wish it was irony, but I don't believe it....even if Courtney Love does.
This is pure cynicism, as far as I'm concerned.
And whatever anyone wants to say about channeling the spirit of YSL--and even with all of his troubled decadence--
I don't believe Yves was ever cynical in his embrace of youth.

Kate's dress looks like it came from her collection for Topshop. ^_^
