Saint Laurent F/W 2023.24 Paris

The lack of bags is quite impressive. That's a bold statement in 2023. Need to see the clothes in motion to have a final verdict, but the images look very sensual and sophisticated. I'm a fan of what he does for the maison.

all models are wearing sunglasses like if YSL is a freaking eyewear company! and its not even summer collection. previous season some models got at least open faces, now they are all covered, i see brand got a massive bid on eywear but gosh that`s too much

Yes quite a statement, but its has been several shows already without bags. Correct me if I am wrong but I think they were those enveloppe pochettes stuck into belts.
I know how Vaccarello hates to do the bags in the studio and am glad the CEO let him show without them, but somehow, they still manage to sell billions in leather goods a year. That's a lesson for the industry.

I am happy he grew out of his tacky miniskirts era and out of Hedi's shadow.

I believe the only time Vaccarello shows bags on the runway is when it's a new model or reissue, otherwise, the models are aux mains libres. I don't think Pilati or Ford have shown bags at shows, either. Hedi, our beloved merchandiser, has however.

I have to say that after rewatching the show, I feel like this is a kind of bourgeois minimalism. It’s not artsy, intellectual or conceptual but it’s minimalism: simple clothes in good fabrics, perfect cut and timeless palette. It’s almost a pity that he didn’t found a way to do a strong shoulder that won’t date the show.

Tom did. The only time he didn’t was in his second show but it was very random most of time (2-3 looks). Carine is not a big fan of bags on the runway…

That's the term which struck me during the show, it's some bourgeois minimalism: simple, effective clothes. "Grande bourgeoise" of course, but sexy, she's sleeping with her husband's driver.
You know you'll see those giant shoulders in every restaurants in Paris very soon.

Yes it would have been perfect if not for the shoulders.

Another hit from Anthony for me. I enjoy every second of the show. A very bourgeois collection.

The set, the music, and the atmosphere are simply divine. They reminded me of the old couture show. Sebastian keeps delivering season after season.
The clothes are sublime, and the styling is great. Good clothes with good styling, that's all you need. And I love that there is only one clutch bag for the entire show, it's all about the fashion in Anthony's fashion show.
He is a great curator, what he lacks in imagination and skills he makes up with his impeccable taste. I love the TF YSL, Alaïa, and Claude Montana references. It was sexy, sleek, and powerful. He certainly understands the spirit of Alaïa better than Pieter.

Overall, even if I wasn't too keen on the big shoulders (he needs to find a way to modernize them), I love everything.

"Yves Shoulder Pads"...too dated! Looks like a parody of 80s YSL, instead of a tribute to it.

Its like a love child of Demna and Claude Montana , but the ambience, casting elevates what is a very predictable collection. I actually found Armani's collection very close to 80s YSL, this not so much. I am surprised AV has not mined 70s YSL thats the epitome of his work, Tom Ford did a wonderful interpretation of it in Fall of 2003 (inspired by 1971 Collection 40) and Fall 2004 (inspired by 1977 Opium Collection) , and I would say that's his best collection to date. Honestly, YSL of the 70s is far better than his work in the 80s.
