Oh man have I had a few bad experiences in luxury stores!
I always get treated poorly due to the fact that I am young and apparently when you are young according to sales associates you don’t have money. The first time I ever walked into a Louis Vuitton store, was the one located on Bloor & Bay. I had just gotten out of school and I was looking for a gift for my mother with my sister. However since I had just gotten out of school I was still in uniform. The minute we walked in this Asian sales associate looked both down on me and my sister. I started to walk towards the case where the men’s wallets were located and I noticed the sales associate gesture to the security guard to pay attention to me. Anyways my sister and I never felt so uncomfortable. That day both her and I had intentions of buying an item or two but due to the fact that we felt so uncomfortable an demised we left the store, felling really down. I don’t believe I have ever been treated so poorly in my life. They looked down on my sister and I and then hinted to the security guard to keep an eye on us.
Another incident which was not too long ago, at the Gucci store located on Bloor & Bay as well. I was walking along Bloor street that day and I decided to walk into the Gucci store, just for the hell of it. Since I had made no plans to go there I was just dressed in a t-shirt and jeans. When I got inside I felt so out of place. I looked around and saw the pouch I had wanted and decided I wanted to see it. I waited for about 10 minutes, until some guy came and served me. He as well looked down at me as if I had no money. At that point I got fed up and started to act a bit more confident due to my past experiences. He only started to treat me fairly once I got a bit of attitude going, but up until the point I said I would take it. He was a complete jerk. Then when he asked how I was going to pay for it, and I said interac and he paused and said “are you sure” as if insinuating I didn’t have sufficient funds. After all the paper work, he rushed me out of the store. It felt crappy but I got what I wanted.
Pfft, I even get treated bad at Holt and yet I have spent thousands there over the past two years. However since I told of this one girl at the Diesel counter, each time I walk in there she always comes to compliment me and so on. So I guess you just have to assert yourself with confidence and awareness.
I still get treated very poorly till this day. However I have learnt that a little attitude can take you a long way. I now walk into luxury stores with confidence and demand that I be treated fair. However this whole situation with sales associates will never change, it’s been like this for years. I just find it appalling that you have to get dressed like you are going to a wedding just to buy something. I just find it hilarious that the people whom work at luxury stores act as if they have some sort of career and PHD yet they work in retail.
