"Le Smoking"
my instructor was just telling us about how ground-breaking it was
that a woman could never before be seen in a 'man's suit'

so i see the waist is tucked in
and the shoulder caps are lifted --i was thinking something 'princess' type of sleeve but i can't find the reference..

funny i just made a YSL sleeve today, my first time
i altered his design..
but it is in no way unisex ^^
and my instructor got me to wear it in front of the mirror, i was walking in the lab, wearing it.. i really loved it..
it is like a bell sleeve or trumpet sleeve.. with a long cuff and a flare at the end

i just thought i could post some 'inspiration' shots ...
it's only from recent editorials ...
mainly styled by Nicola Formichetti, Panos Y. and Alister McKie

I just love the idea of Le Smoking and how women were actually refused entry to restaurants because of how they were dressed.
Saint Laurent really changed how we live today.

^ I'm sure everyone's heard the story of how Nan Kempner was wearing a tunic & trousers (not sure if it was YSL or not, but distinct possibility it was), and was told she couldn't come in. She slipped off the trousers to comply with the dress code :D Gotta love her just for that

i made a lantern sleeve with flared cuff on wednesday
like this

was a little sad i thought i couldn't really wear it outside
but then i remembered, didn't men wear this kind of sleeve in the 1970s? some looked silly but not always. it seemed good most of the time, if the man had long hair to match.
also i think lace and ruffle etc was worn by the 70s man

thank you!! i was thinking about musicians but didn't know where to start.

they both do it well there
i like brian's, more like holes in the fabric than
holes in the form of flower designs ^^
i like the hard-to-see bow tie too

I always wear boys clothes, i borrow my brothers jeans, shirts, jackets and shoes haha we are the same size. I think that the guys clothes (non designer) fit better and have better material then girls.
I also preffer to have mens perfume because other girls are less likley to have it on.

many girls have complimented me about my "straight" pants^
i think before skinny jeans became popular
girls were often left with jeans with a flare at the bottom
and that was all they could choose
but fortunately that's not the case anymore.

^ Aren't they called poet's shirts, gius? There's a big Renaissance fair not far from here, so I see those guys wearing them.

that must be it  ^Thank you fashionista-ta

that's a really lovely name for that shirt/sleeve :crush:
brian jones certainly looks like a poet there..

Now this is who I think of when I think androgony:

^ That has gone from androgyne to android! Check out those articulated knees. :alien:

That shirt is a great example of how to use pleats and folds, though, I agree.

and the 60s...

A few weeks ago I found this 1969 photograph of The Fools and have been anxious for a chance to post it somewhere on the Fashion Spot - now's my chance! Not only are the men here wearing ruffles (and perhaps lace, though I can't make out any), but both sport floral prints, shades of pink and orange, and, of course, messy long hair. I love it, and I dare say they are dressed more "feminine" than the females surrounding them!

^It would be interesting to research clothes though from that period where the garment looks like that, but is actually intended to be worn by a man

Here is one interesting thing I learned from dress making.
On a shirt you have buttons placed at the right of the opening - for a man
But on a girl's shirt, the buttons will be on the left side of the opening

^ Actually there are many shirts made for women that button on the other side. If they are more tailored, men's-style shirts, even though not actually a man's shirt, they often do ...

that's interesting :P thanks ! then i guess it won't matter in the end
who can tell really...

i heard it is because in the past women's garments were more difficult to put on, with the hoops and corsets etc-- they always needed a helper to get into the dress. so they had the buttons on that side, for the right-handed helper
and on the man's, he does it himself so it is to his right hand.

Gius, I have also heard that explanation for the reversed buttoning.

I've noticed that on several of the (men's) jackets I've owned that were made in Italy, the zippers were on the opposite side than what I'm used to; when I was selling one, a potential buyer asked me if it was a woman's jacket. Why the zippers are reversed between Italy and the US (and most other countries making clothing for export to US, as far as I can tell), I have no idea.

I think also mens trousers have the buttons and zippers in the other side.

The probably most popular men's garment among women could be the oxford shoes. So many girls own something like the Repetto Zizi shoes.
