For someone who has lived in St. Louis most of his life, I know very little about where to seek clothes here as I have always chosen to shop in other cities.

St. Louis is generally just too conservative for me; are there places here that anyone would recommend, or is it a lost cause?

I've lived in St. Louis all of my life also and find it hard to seek out unique stores to shop in. Mainly I shop at Nordstroms or when I'm at school in Columbia, MO I shop in the little boutiques down there. I know there are some unique stores in the Loop. What are you looking for, anything in particular? Mass merchandising stores or specialty?

shopping here is dreadful

I have pretty conservative taste, most of my basics are from Ann Taylor and JCrew.

I get the occasion big name item-
When i go to chicago twice a year

I usually only splurge on shoes and bags.

Neiman Marcus and Saks at Frontenac have decent shoes & bags, but as I have large feet, I often end up ordering online

I like the Off fifth outlet at the St louis mills mall- you can get good deals on good shoes there-

but again they have nearly NO designer clothes, and what they do have is just expensive and bland

well they have bags and shoes by the major designers

prada, gucci, Dolce ect.

but they don't carry the clothing lines-

Prada, Gucci, dior, pucci, Fendi, hermes, Marc Jacobs, Dolce, & miu miu they have bags/shoes, but no clothing (except a bit of prada sport)

no feretti, Chloe, McQueen, Marni, Narciso Rodriguez, Oscar De la renta, cavalli, Versace, Lanvin, Maxmara, Moschino, YSL, or zac posen at all

this mall also have a vuitton store- but it only carries bags, shoes and luggage- no Ready to wear

That isnt to bad for STL, I didnt know STL had a LV store. Compared to other midwest cities that isnt to bad but that sucks that they dont offer the clothes sounds like that is one skimmed down NM & Saks. Im surprised neither have YSL. So what clothes do they have?
So No Shop In Shops Correct?

I meant other Neiman Marcus,Saks,Barneys,Etc Have those Chanel,YSL,Gucci, etc mini stores on the upper floors with a specialist dedicated to it. So Im assuming since the stl stores don't carry those brands that they dont have them. What clothing brands do they carry there?

well the saks does have a little chanel boutique like that. There's ralph lauren, burberry, Akris, and Theres st john .

The neimans has an Armani boutique. but I really don't like armani- at all.

I suppose everything is geared more towards an older clientelle

From my past experiences, the workers in the LV store here in STL are very stuck up and are not willing to help everyone or even say hello. When I bought my bag two years ago (I was 19) they wouldn't even approach me and no one else was in the store! They clearly saw me but even after they assisted me they were unkind and had this "why are YOU buying a bag!?" attitude.

Now the LV store in Chicago has never given off this impression and they workers are very helpful and friendly. Maybe it's because of where the LV is located in STL (in Plaza Frontenac, just about an upscale-only mall) where as in Chicago the store is downtown mixed in with everything else so they get a range of customers.

WHo knows, maybe the workers in STL were just having a bad day (or two or three....)

The STL Vuitton people ignored me too

and the Chicago Vuitton people were solicitous, even though I wasn't buying.

Perhaps the St louis people are more used to older clients, like the neimans and saks seem to expect.

Or perhaps they're just b*tches
-one of the two

I love the neimans shoe guy though. I bought a bunch of shoes at the "last call" sale last year, and any time I'm in there he says hello, and tries to show me something.

They obviously DO work on comission!

I forget his name, but he has a foreign sort of accent. He's quite nice

The LV store doesn't carry any clothing though. Just accessories/shoes.

I love shopping in the loop- I like Rag O' Rama for vintage!

I, too, have found that LV workers at Frontenac judge you as soon as you walk in the door. One day I came in with a bunch of friends. Most of us were wearing jeans or miniskirts. When my friend inquired about a bag, they brushed her off (little did they know, she could afford it...). They were very rude. Then another time I went in with a dress on, makeup done, and a Balenciaga bag in hand, and they immediately rushed over to me and asked how they could be of assistance. I don't like the way they treat their customers...

anyone else's power out from that big storm? Mine just came on the day before yesterday

Is the Saks & Neimans there worth even going to for men or are they boring Tier 3 stores Im looking for D&G or Cavalli or other euro brands
Also any decent ultralounges/clubs
