Whistler's Mother vs. "McDean's Natasha"

This picture of Natasha Poly by Craig McDean is a modern reenactment of the famous portrait "Whistler's Mother"
by James Abbott McNeill Whister. The chair in the photo is propositioned perpendicularly
to Natasha so that she may sit on it in an unexpected way. While Whistler’s frail mother sat rigidly straight, grasping a handkerchief,
Natasha leans back and stretches her long legs out in front of her, touching her thighs provocatively.
Instead of a pitch-black dress, McDean focuses on Natasha’s legs in sexy, thigh-high stockings and the fashionable pumps on her feet.
However, both pictures capture a similar mood. The subjects wear a serious, almost bleak, look on their faces,
and the colours in the pictures are drab and somber to convey a sober mood.

Abandonment

The atmosphere of Winslow Homer's "Fisherwoman" is one of loneliness and isolation, which is mirrored by the lost look in Freja's eyes in this portrait by Nicole Nodland. The dark and moody surroundings of both women seem to give an outward expression of the feelings they share. The only things distinguishing the two from each other are age and apparel, Freja being the beautiful young girl in a party dress, inexplicably all by herself, and Homer's woman an aging fisherwoman standing by the sea.

Can a mod help me delete the post the entry that I did on the last page? My picture didn't work so I reposted it anyway.

Double Take
Lily Donaldson

Flaming June by Lord Frederick Leighton

Flaming June is widely considered to be Leighton's crowning work, showing his classicist nature. It is thought the woman portrayed in this painting represents the sleeping figures the Greeks would often paint, which were collectively referred to as Venus. The painting is full of sensuality even though the model is fully clothed. Although Lily's picture is black and white, you still feel the sensual, classic mood. She radiates classic beauty and refined, full of grace and serenity. Much like the model in Flaming June.
