I am new to this thread but I wanted to know if this rumor was true: Terry Richardson did a shoot for Penthouse Magazine! I think he shoots sexy/slighty vulgar but there is no tasteful way you could shoot for penthouse!

Yes. He shot p*rn star sasha grey. I saw the pictures. They're not totally gross, but she is naked.

No matter what people's opinions of him are, and they tend to be love or hate, one thing he is not is boring.
I'm always interested to see what he will come up with next......sometimes it is more of the same and other times a big surprise.

Helmut Newton did a lot of nudity... and everybody thinks (and they're right!!!) he is a genius! Guy Bourdin did a lot if nuidty, too... and both are genius, both are sources and influences for todays photog.
that's just ridiculous what people think and say about nudity...
Terry just shoots your fantasy and you're so puritan that you're getting angry and stupid (I'm not talking about someone's precise... it's a general observation!!)

but the problem is not nudity.. it's Terry!. Just about every fashion photographer out there does nudity and certainly covers people's sexual fantasies. I can't recall someone who hasn't at some point, Helmut was indeed a genius in that field like you mention.. Inez and Matadin do great stuff on a regular basis and so does Camilla Akrans.. they've proved they can do wonders with it and actually develop a concept around it instead of just showing you a pair of boobs from a morbid angle, which is how I interpret Terry's photographs, I understand that saliva, sweat and nipples would be a shock for the League of Decency but the rest of the world has actually looked down at their bodies already so I don't know what's the big deal with Terry's photographs?, his vision of sex, nudity and whatnot is pretty much on the same level of a 12 year-old who goes when opening up his first p*rn magazine.. I guess I don't find him (terry) boring.. just desperate to reach a younger audience... the fact that he's constantly trying so hard to impress people with sexuality and putting himself in the middle of it makes me think that he's a puritan himself .. with zero dignity if I may add.

First of all I totally agree with everything you say and I have got no problem with the nudity, but I think the problem other's have with Richardson's pics are that the nudity is very what I would call 'Gonzo', in that it's very organic and real. As opposed to Newton and Bourdin who's nudity was a little more classy.
People do need to get over it to be fair.
