Here are a few of my better shots. Anyone have any advice? I would love harsh honest critiques if anyone can provide them.

Local Denver fashion is a bit lacking but I try and do the best with what I have to work with.

I shot this quick test with Anita Hodosi (Beatrice) last month in my hotel room in Milan.

Imagine what I could do if someone actually gave me a budget...

Gorgeous photos. And the budget doesn't always makes it better. Getting paid however does help ;)

Most of my work i shoot pro-bono for fashion- and textiledesign students here which of course means a budget of zero. Its fun work however and the level of the fashion is very high so nice to be one of the first photographers to deal with the new designers.

I think its a bit of a catch 22. To work as a photographer, you need to work consistently to pay the rent (unless you have a 2nd job). And getting that work takes time which means you usually do not have much time for the more personal projects or the non-commercial fashion shoots that can really lift your portfolio. On the other hand if you do not do those personal and special jobs then you may end up with a portfolio filled with standard studio shots w. gray background and fashion lighting setup 1a. Nothing that will make the editors of Vogue go whoohoo if you know what i mean :D

In this sense, as a photographer you really need to be a real world mcguiver and whip together an editorial-style shoot with minimum of resources.

But keep it up Charles, becuase its looking good =)

Pics are good, but what budget you're talking about? For the test shots?

No, for editorials and campaigns. I would like to build sets and use real lighting equipment when I travel.

The shot on the bed was done with a 4 second exposure and a manually-triggered flash. I clicked the shutter and jumped away from the camera to fire the flash.
