The 100 Movie Challenge (2012)

I'm actually not sure, Wikipedia says it was a Hong Kong/Chinese/French production, but they speak English and it was shot in Nevada. :ninja: I probably wouldn't put it on my list, just because of the language.

Of the ones I've seen so far, A Separation was wonderful (as expected). House was just completely weird. At first I didn't have a clue what was going on, but I enjoyed it after a while. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was really good and made me regret not seeing it sooner. The Host was good as well, I don't usually like Asian horror, but this one had a really good balance between horror/tension and comedy. It wasn't too silly and goofy, or ridiculously gory.

Right now I am working on Seven Samurai, which I've put off watching before because of it's length.

Yeah I didn't count it.

I've already seen A Separation, Seven Samurai & CTHD... honestly don't like anything Ang Lee with the exceptions of Eat Drink Man Woman & Lust, Caution.
I keep on sorting out films by directors and squeeze in the others that I'm curious about in between - am trying to find time for (Filipino director) Brillante Mendoza's films now.

^Completely agree. We should be able to rant about whatever movies we loathed or movies that we loved on this thread. And Sobriquet87, if it was Breakfast at Tiffany's that you disliked, that's totally fine. Personally, I love the movie but I can see why it might not be everyone's cup of tea. ^_^

since we're talking about Audrey Hepburn's movies then I'll say which one I don't like: Roman Holiday...Imo, the plot is too slow -_-

ok then i'm joining! i think i'm just gonna count movies i haven't seen yet for the one hundred, but i keep a list of all movies i watch just for the sake of continuity. so this is my list so far
1. the artist. 2011 staring jean dujardin and berince bejo. i LOVED this film! it was so charming and heartfelt and just wonderful. plus jean dujardin:brows:
2. the descendants. 2011 staring george clooney and shailene woodlley. now this film really took me by surprise. i was all prepared to hate it and declare it overrated, but then i found myself really enjoying it! shaliene especially impressed me.
3. state of play. 2009 staring rachel mcadams, ben affleck and russel crowe. i caught this one just starting one night late on tv and it kinda sucked me in. it was ok, nothing special but not unwatchable ether.
4. take me home tonight. 2011 staring topher grace and anna farris. ugh this one..don't even waste your time kids. topher has a certain likable charm but this movie is a dud.
5. midnight in paris. 2011 staring owen wilson, rachel mcadams and marion cotillard. i had really high expectations for this one and it kinda failed to live up to the hype. beyond gorgeous scenery though, i wanted to book a ticket to paris the second it got over!
6. my week with marilyn. 2011 staring michelle williams and eddie redmayne. this film was really well done. i can't imagine a better portrayal of marilyn without it being cartoon-y. and eddie was just a dream, excited for him to get more parts!
7. the cat returns. 2002, from japan. being a huge miyazaki fan, and a huge cat person, there's no way i wasn't gonna like this one! its totally charming and magical.
8. peggy sue got married. 1986 staring kathleen turner and nicholas cage. ehh this one was whatever. it was quite interesting/humorous to see such a young nicolas cage though!

..wow i guess i have alot of work to do! also for those considering watching audrey films, do it! she has so many lovely one, but her stand out one for me is sabrina. one the greatest light romantic comedies imo.

if we're doing confessions :lol::blush:

i have never seen any Star Wars or Harry Potter films :ninja:

I haven't seen any Harry Potter movie either, or Lord of the Rings for that matter. Truthfully, I'm not even interested in watching any of those movies.

I also haven't seen Schindler's List, but I think I am going to remedy that this week sometime.

I loved Sabrina! Defnitely worth watching! Schindler's List was great too, not at all what I thought it was going to be, really clever that Schindler.

Here's my list so far...

1.-the international (2011)
2.-drive (2011)
3.-super 8 (2011)

9.-the iron lady (2011)
10.- Midnight in Paris (2011)
11.- one day (2011)
12.- A dangerous method (2011)

13.- The Artist (2011) Loved the movie, after this and Midnight in Paris I now want to live in the 1920's
14.- The girl with the dragon tattoo (2011) it was rough and Rooney was splendid, such a badass...this movie reminded me of Se7en a lot. Same director, of course.
15.- Albert Nobbs (2011) Glenn Close was great, but the story left me wanting for more.
16.- J Edgar (2011) Really interesting, I had to google a lot during this movie cause half the time I didn't know what the gossip was about, but then I got it all figured out. I feel like learned a lot hahaha
17.- extremely loud & incredibly close (2011) Don't watch it unless you have no soul. Max Von Sydow was greattt and the kid, I don't know why there aren't awards raining all over him

Yeah, I know they are all from last year, but I said I was on an Oscars challenge:P

I haven't seen the swedish version, nor read the book past the first couple of chapters, but i felt like Rooneys 'badass-ness' was not convincing at all. Get rid of the contrived hair, piercings, and bike, and shes just this frail, vulnerable looking thing. IDK, I just didnt buy into Rooney at all and still rolling my eyes at her Oscar nom.

oh i want to see dragon tatoo for my oscar challenge but i don't know if i can handle it. also i don't want to pay the ridiculous theater prices:ninja: did you guys find it too intense?

20. Die Hard 3
21. Star Trek (JJ Abrams version)

And yes, it's Breakfast at Tiffany's that I didn't like (continuing the Audrey Hepburn convo from the previous page). I did really like My Fair Lady though.

As for confessions, I also haven't seen any of the Star Wars (and nor will I ever). I'm just not into hard core Sci-fi films. Another film I despise that I was forced to watch in my film class a few years ago was 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was torture. :ninja:

I didn't think that it was that intense and I'm only 15...Yes, there are some harsh scenes but you can always just look away for a minute.

I've just watched Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and I loved it!! Amazing movie, both Rooney and Daniel were perfect!

Bronson is really graphic, so a strong stomach is needed if anyone of you decide to watch it. There's alot of Violence, Profanity and Graphic scenes, it's a good movie, just a line of caution is needed.

Sorry for double post but I've just watched Mulan- it used to be my favo cartoon when I was little and I've never realised how wonderful it is! A real masterpiece! I cried while watching it.

I've watched 13 so far; is it too late to join? All of mine are recorded in the "Last movie watched" thread. What are the rules?
