I tend to go through phases where I watch a bunch of films that are within a specific genre, made by the same director, starring a specific actor or something else entirely. I just went through a Jacques Tati phase. And now I seem to gravitate toward early Emma Thompson films.

16. Playtime (France, 1967).
17. J. Edgar (2011)
18. Much Ado About Nothing (1993). I've never been a big fan of Shakespeare, but this one I really liked.
19. Sense and Sensibility (1995).
20. The Iron Lady (2011). Disappointed in this one, both in the movie itself as well as in Meryl Streep's performance
19. Howards End (1992). I thought the acting was splendid!
20. The Remains of the Day (1993).

what did you think of the remains of the day? is it worth watching?

i read the book by kazuo ishiguro last year but didn't realize there was a film...

^how was My Week with Marilyn?

I know you didn't ask me this question but I hope you don't mind me giving my two cents. ^_^ Anyways, I really enjoyed MWWM and thought Michelle Williams was able to capture the essence of Marilyn. It was kinda eerie to be honest. Also, I like how Marilyn wasn't just portrayed as a bombshell but rather as a complex women; like showing that even at the beginning of her marriage they had issues, she wanted to be respected as an actress, she understood that Marilyn was a role, etc. Michelle Williams was obviously the standout but I also liked Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of his character, his quite but a powerful presence, and I think he's an actor who will continue to gain critical acclaim. Anyways, definitely worth a watch, the clothes were glorious as well.

13. Safe House - 1.5/5 God did I hate it. So incredibly violent; I couldn't look at the screen. I almost fell asleep.
14. Morning Glory (half of) - 4/5 great film from 2010!
15. Obsessed - my guilty pleasure film. Not a good film, but god do I love Idris Elba. Hilariously bad. The last half hour is a waste. 2/5
16. Girl with Dragon Tattoo - fantastic -- Rooney Mara was incredible.
17. The Social Network - 5/5 my favourite film of 2010

18. Office Space - 5 - My absolute favourite film of all time.
19. Panic Room - 3 - I wasn't really paying that much attention. The ending was way too violent for me. However, it's an interesting, watchable, clever movie (I guess). Just not really my type of thing.
20. Unknown (Half of) - Just got really bored.
21. Overboard (half of) - I've been hearing a lot of hype about this 1980's film -- my mother loves it, and Reese Witherspoon announced it as her favourite movie at the recent Oscars. I found it unwatchable!
22. 21 Jump Street - 4.5 - Really my kind of movie. I loved it. Jonah Hill is my type of humour, and I thought that Ice Cube and Channing Tatum were great too. The first half hour I thought, was hysterical. The ending kind of dissolved into a typical violent shootout. Reminiscent of Pineapple Express, this way.
23. Young Adult - 3 - Ugh. I wanted to like this movie, but that sex scene just really made me feel so dirty. It's..... depressing.
24. The Sitter - 3.5 - Not some amazing movie, but cute and fun! The soundtrack was amazing. All 1980's electronic soundtrack music, or old-school, obscure hip hop.

Has anyone tried to watch The Bonfire of the Vanities lately? My mother has the DVD so I tried it. I couldn't bear to get through more than 15 minutes! The whole thing sounds so horribly dubbed! It's really noticeable and distracting and horrible. I've been dying to talk to someone about this, even Google'd the issue, but never saw a discussion about it. It drove me crazy.

(At the end of my list, I won't count the movies I've only watched half of.)

Tinetush, I notice you have a Jacques Tati film on your list (Les vacances de M. Hulot (France, 1953)); have you seen his later film Trafic? It's so funny, and the fashion is even worth a look!
Oh, I actually only knew of his first 3 films about Hulot. Didn't know of this later one. The previous 3 were shown on the telly, and I really really enjoyed them. I do hope I'll be able to find Trafic somewhere. Thanks a lot :flower:

what did you think of the remains of the day? is it worth watching?

i read the book by kazuo ishiguro last year but didn't realize there was a film...
I thought it was good, though not a masterpiece :P The best part of the film is definitely the relationship between Stevens and Miss Kenton. Very restrained.
But I haven't read the book, so I don't really have anything to compare it with.
