^ dry clean clothes I do wear a few times before sending them out, I do feel they get ruined faster if you send them out every time you wear them...and also, it's a bit wasteful I feel, hehe.

Oh, I'm in the middle of my closet cleaning and it's painful : / I do have a small pile of clothes to try and wear like fashionista-ta suggested but still...buh! Hehe

Dry cleaning is SO expensive in Denmark, it's not even an option. I do have a coat that I would consider having dry cleaned, but I just can't bring myself to actually do it :ninja:

what do you end up doing? ^

if it's a coat you are going to wear all winter long -do it!
i hardly ever have things dry cleaned -because it's overpriced here too and i love to do my laundry  -but when it comes to winter coats i always get them done.

On dry cleaning: Really overpriced and such a hassle. "Dry clean only" clothing I usually wash by hand (which I don't mind a bit) and let air dry then iron, or on a low heat, "tumble press" dryer cycle. A gentle cycle with cold on the washing machine is also okay for some garments.

The Laundress sells great products and has helpful tips and care info on the website.

Thanks for the reviews on the Chloe boots, I haven't had the chance to try them on yet. I really would like a more weekend/walking the city appropriate pair.

Personally, I'm going with a 4-5 statement/more expensive pieces a season. Its helping me keep my look more focused and I think planning my purchases forces me to narrow it down to things I love instead of getting sucked into a sale frenzy and ending up with things I don't really use. I also like to mix up high and low and have gotten a bunch of great stuff from Forever 21 lately. I'm going to check out Zara, but I swear my local store never has anything as good as I see on TPF.

For fall so far I've gotten/pre-ordered the Tom Binns necklace and Made her Think ring and an Alexander Wang coco bag.

I'm still unsure about which shoes to get. These CLs are on my short list, but they are much higher than any other heel that I own.

I love how easy it is to dry clean, I hate the cost and the "shine" that ends up on some clothes after awhile. I also hand wash quite a bit myself and have had good results.

Grill, I personally think black leather skinny jeans are pretty rock and roll and would have looked good on anytime in the past 20 years, which makes me think they'll look good in the future. Love your list. It makes me think that I need to start looking at coats, since I always look too late in the season and can't find something worth investing in at that point.

a shine? that comes from dry cleaning? that's odd.. :ninja:

^ I think it's actually from pressing ... or from wearing itself. Sometimes you see it on men's suits at stress points only ...

like knees and elbows? that's very interesting...
i think it might be pressing too. it's never happened to me but i've heard of people ironing their clothes and getting it

have you guys had good experiences with hand washing something that has a lining? or any garment that has more than one layer of fabric

It happens to me on black wool pants. I had a favorite pair that I actually got compliments on the shine :P  I always value the perfect pair of black pants more than I'm worried about the shine. I can't be throwing things out for every little defect

wow, it's been a long while since i posted in this thread!! i moved and have gotten back into casual vintage shopping and accumulated more clothes than i need. i went through them the other day and this thread popped into my mind. LOL

i need to do some serious editing, i started buying multiple of things i dont really need ( like jeans). and have a lot of shirts i've bought, but just dont wear. im kinda excited to purge a little and get rid of some things.

so far i've compiled a bit of a list of things i need and things i've gotten:
*bag: just got my bag for this season, a MJ sweet punk bag
*low heeled boots~ found a pair i like, need to order them
*long cardigan ~ either grey or black-need to find
*vest-maybe wool? it's something i dont own and am interested in incorporating into my wardrobe
*black dress-i think i might make this
*nice casual jeans~ looking at GAP's new 1969 line
*kitten heels-need to find

things i need to get rid of
*jeans that dont fit or are the wrong length
*shirts i dont wear
*shoes

This thread is such an inspiration to me. I've been de-junking my closet and getting rid of so much stuff - I've a bad habit of buying things because they are on sale, rather than because they fit with what I've got.

Because of the de-junking, I've done more shopping recently than I probably should (I'm over the 4-5 pieces already!), but I feel a lot more purposeful. I've got a list of needs/wants for Fall/Winter that I keep in my wallet, and I admit half are basics. And I find that now I've gotten rid of things that just weren't right, I'm a lot more creative with my clothes. I feel more stylish already, somehow with less. It's funny, because if you'd told me a year ago that getting rid of most of my clothes would make me dress better, I'd have laughed in your face.

^I know this feeling. I've been obsessed with the idea of making every piece I own work within a certain style, and this has been a daily exercise to my creativity. I still have a lot of work to do but I feel like I'm on the right path wardrobe-wise. I can see how this has been great to define my style.

Way back I posted my autumn/winter wardrobe picks and mentioned that on my wishlist were some black skinny jeans by Miu Miu and the chloe heeled bikerish boots first mentioned by salomelovesjohn. I did buy the Miu Mius but thought and thought and thought about them after - wondering if they were too trendy to justify the 1000+ Euro price, how much wear I'd get out of them - so I decided to return them and get the Chloe boots which were cheaper and fitted so much more easily with my day to day wardrobe.

For me its important to have a wardrobe largely made up of things you that fit into your life and work with your lifestyle - that for me means lots of chic/casual pieces that work for Paris/London life and very few occasion pieces. I prefer separates over dresses largely as they are more versatile.

Now I have to decide whether to Ebay or to consign a few Louis Vuitton items that I no longer wear. I am not that keen on Ebay so I'll probably consign.

Okay, I am all ready to go as far as getting organised for the new seasons goes. I'm a little behind (I would have liked to have started a couple of weeks earlier) but it's alright because the weather hasn't shifted properly yet, so I can survive in my winter wardrobe for a little while longer.

I wasn't happy with how I went with my autumn/winter wardrobe. I bought far too much stuff, and hardly any of it fits in with my personal style. I need to stop impulse buying, and start buying "outfits" because my pieces don't always work together. I think another problem I encountered was going overseas & living/shopping in a different season for a while. I have all of these new summer clothes that I don't even know if I'll wear....

So I have a general idea of what I want/need for this season and I need to stock up on basics because I've never ventured into a colour palette outside of black before, and this season I am wanting to try something a little different.

Starting thoughts...

work wear
> cream pencil skirt (I bought a satin tiered creamy pink skirt today)
grey pencil skirt
lightweight blouses in nude shades (mushroom, cream, oyster etc)
lightweight cardigans that fit within the colour pattern of everything else
peep toe flats that again fit within the colour pattern of above
peep toe heels/wedges that fit within the colour pattern of above
pearl stud earrings
a bag that isn't black! possibly cream, or a pinkish sort of colour..

casual wear
floral dresses with either cap sleeve or 3/4 sleeve
tan flat sandals/peep toe flats
shorts somewhere between bermuda length and hot pants
floaty blouses that aren't shapeless (preferably empire waisted)

and I would love it if I could find the 3.1 Phillip Lim Beryl shoulder bag online somewhere to buy...

OK girls... gonna go through my husbands wardrobe with him tonight... we are moving house soon and need to clear out... for a bloke he has a lot of clothes and quite into them... I wouldn't say he is a typical lad! However... we both need to cut down a lot... we def want to go for the less but more attitude keeping quality rather than quantity in our minds... so do any of you have any quick tips on some rules we should maybe follow...

I was thinking for starters... anything with characters on them... simpsons etc.. not that he has many but a few socks ties etc...

Then random things that dont fit it with anything else!

All cheenos... the work of the devil in my opinion!

Any other rules we could adopt!
