Betinapple, I've just seen in the shopaholics thread that you bought the pumps... they look very stylish in the picture, very pretty! Did they arrive yet?

I bought a scarf today (see shopaholics ). Scarves are the one item I only buy in sales. Looking forward to its arrival... (I doubt though that any lovely bag will be left until I have enough money to buy one. :()

Just remember there will be more lovely bags coming in the future

^_^ You are right. I try to tell myself that, too. If I don't find one now that I can afford then I maybe just have to wait and be patient. Sooner or later I will walk into one. I need one but it's not like my life stops when I can't buy it within the next two months.

I got my scarf today...:woot: It feels so luxe... I don't think I've ever owned such a fine silk scarf before. I think I want to wear it naked, haha :D I've already tried it on with different pieces and it sure gives a fresh touch to them. I have a feeling that was a good buy

That feeling is so nice! I've recieved my pumps and they're perfect. You can see that it is a cheaper version of suede, but they still look very nice, especially when you think about what I've paid for them.

^I'm so happy about my latest purchases. However, I feel a little bit bad about the amount of money I've spend this month. Way too much.

Sale season just started in Paris...presently in need of:

replacements category:
black ballet flats or wedges
black knee-length skirt

never enough category:
maxi skirt
semi-formal dress
evening gown

as well as a pair of sweatpants and flipflops, but that doesn't really count

Good black skirts are so difficult to find though...no success so far...may have to make one myself...we'll see.

^ Melisande, what about Lanvin for the skirt? I tried on one I really liked, but it was satin. The SA tried to convince me that was an all-purpose fabric, but I wasn't buying it  Sounds like it might be practical for you, though ... Anyway, you're in Paris, if you haven't been this week, you should go

is anyone on this thread using public transportation? it really adds wear to my shoes. =( no matter the price point unless they are boots...

^ Yes, I had to chuck out 3 pairs in one week. Two lasted a few months and one lasted a few years. But it was really inconvenient. I'm now constantly wearing the same pair and I can already see the soles wearing out and I don't scuff my shoes. I really need to buy a few pairs as replacements.

I use public transport sometimes but ATM i walk (takes about 30-45 minutes) to work. I haven't noticed that public transportation should ad wear to your shoes though.

Oooh you're GOOD! The skirt that died on me that needs replacement was, actually, satin. It really is all-purpose, it took me from work to formal evenings and could even be casual with flats/sneakers and a hoodie or parka, leggings. The only problem was, it was so versatile I wore it every day and wore it out fast, lol. Now I wish I could afford Lanvin...:crush:

The prob with replacing a single versatile item is that sometimes you need two, three or more items to fulfill those needs.

Kind of like with men. :innocent::lol:

 that is excatly how I feel about my striped l/s tee. I can't find another one totally similar. Either the stripes are navy and not black or the back isn't low. Sigh.

I do, and I also walk a lot, so I choose my shoes with this in mind, i.e they have to be both comfortable and look like they can stand up to heavy use at least for a few seasons. We have a great cobbler in the neighbourhood, so comfortable shoes or boots get reheeled and resoled, and worn again, even when they look a bit beaten up... :innocent:

there are these marc jacobs creepers i want to take to the cobbler. i love them but the leather was glossy so they're scuffed and i ripped part of the leather trying to get them on. i have a wide foot. =/ i want to take them and be like doctor what can be done to save them?!

you even bother to do that with sneakers and trainers? mostly vans... they wear out on the back cause i'm heavyset. ugh. i have so many problems. i hate that because it prevents me from building that solid wardrobe they we are all after on here.

I occasionally wear converse all stars hi tops. I got my first pair 8 years ago and have worn several pairs out. They don't last very long, when you wear them every day. I wouldn't bother repairing sneakers though. Don't think the result would be nice.

I just had a really good closet clear out and got rid of a ton of stuff that I've hung on to for ages. I still have one dress that needs to go but I can't face throwing away but other than that anything damaged/not worn/ugly has gone!

I need to replace a black round neck cardigan, long grey cardigan and black ballet flats. I also need a new small-ish day handbag (black) and a black skirt but I can never find skirts I like.

I'm reading a book that will definitely help influence me when shopping, and will absolutely play a role in keeping my wardrobe small: To Die For, Is fashion wearing out the world? By Lucy Siegle.

Separately, I use public transit and my shoes have normal (not excessive) wear. It helps to have 2-3 pairs of shoes (hey, what happened to a small wardrobe??) to alternate. And absolutely have them repaired as needed. Converse are total junk. They look great, I know, but they are really junk; not worth the money.
