The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #6

Blue is (unfortunately) definitely not a good colour on me - I'm the yellow one now that you've laid off the apples ;) I have three pairs of cropped black trousers in similar cuts but with different details (buttons, zips, pleats) that I wear with a black blazer. I actually got the black blazer so that I could wear a jumper under it, as my other blazers were a bit too tight to wear over anything more than a shirt.

I usually wear black trousers + shirt + cardigan (either gray or dusty pink) + black blazer and my red zara overcoat, as it is oversized and can fit a blazer underneath. I just feel very black and very boring as I wear the same clothes every day, pretty much.

Yesterday I wore this purple wool/cashmere sweater I recently bought and it felt different and new (the colour likely helped), but underneath I had a plain white shirt and, since the office space is pretty hot, I took the sweater off and felt boring again. Even when I wear a printed shirt I often feel way too suited up.

I have a pair of dark gray wool trousers that need to be taken in at the waist (will take care of that later today) and another gray pair in viscose (too thin for right now).
I also have blazers in:
- navy (not sure if I could pull it off with an otherwise all-black look)
- dark red (I wear this one a lot with all-black looks)
- dark gray (this one is a tighter, shorter blazer - can't really layer).
I have ordered a plaid blazer in brown/red/black tones earlier today from the sale, as I think that a print can help spice things up.

I have also been wearing the same shoes every day for two months, since I bought them (these brogues). I love them, and the fact that it has been rainy hasn't allowed me to wear ballet flats; the fact I'm wearing trousers rather than jeans also doesn't let me wear my Hunters.

I like the idea of a "uniform" but it really isn't working for me...

I haven't been wearing sweaters for a while (except for on weekends), as most of those I own are pretty thick. I was thinking of losing the blazer and start wearing them again (which could mean more variety in outerwear, as I could wear a different coat), or start wearing jeans with a blazer. To be honest most of my superiors don't wear a suit, most of my co-workers have dropped theirs already and a lot of people wear jeans and even sneakers... We don't work with the public, all we do in that sense is phone people asking for data they haven't sent

I think I'm just too stuck on the "dress for the job you want" part and the fact that I haven't worn jeans a lot for the past year and a half.

And sorry everyone for the long post!

Hi barbaraaa :flower:

I like the idea of changing up your jackets. How about a nice boucle jacket or a structured cardigan? I've seen lots of nice ones around, both in black and white, colour and patterns. It would still look quite sharp with trousers and a shirt, and you could wear it with a blouse or t-shirt for a softer look, or again with a shirt to sharpen up a pair of dark jeans?

Meanwhile I've fallen hard for a white button down shirt, sadly the shipping and taxes to Norway cost nearly as much as the shirt itself.

Barbaraa: I second the boucle jacket idea.

Caramel: well, I know how that feels... I intend to study in the EU for a few months, and I am worried I will go a bit nuts. Just think about it; cheaper shipping, easy returns and no tax-shocks... It is like a different world:lol:

I know, it's so frustrating! I imagine it's easy to go a little crazy once you get the chance!

I am very bored with my wardrobe.

Since I got a job I have had to go out every day, which means wearing something other than my PJs every day - which meant I needed more clothes. This had me buy more shirts/blouses now during the sale, out of necessity and I tried to buy some "fun" shirts, things in nice colours and prints, but I'm still bored. I'm not sure if it is because it's winter, which means I can't wear anything lighter, or I just feel like I'm in a suit every day and that is, let's be real - boring.

I'm not sure whether this happened because it is winter, or because I am indeed in a suit every day. To be fair, I have the option to wear whatever I want to - even jeans if I feel so. Should I try maybe dressing down a little (and, even though it is allowed, risk looking not so good to my superiors)?

I was also thinking that maybe I could add a printed or bright blazer/jacket, or some shoes... outerwear and shoes seem to me to be some nice pieces where you can be "different" and make a statement.

barbara, I think a pair of killer shoes sounds like a great idea! This is why I'm such a fan of high-impact accessories ... the kind of things that have the power to brighten my day for years to come. My red peep-toes have that effect (and with the block heel are pretty comfortable too), and my new leopard shoes too  My black/white/silver flat sandals are super fun & get a lot of compliments while being totally comfortable. So I think some shoes would be a good idea ... and this time of year, I start counting things toward spring :woot: Not sure when your warm weather starts, but we usually get a foretaste around the middle of February, before the cold comes back for awhile. You could get something with an open toe & wear with tights until the weather improves.

I've bought Acne Needle Rocco jeans during the sale, 50% off! :woot: But now I've received the jeans, there is a weaving flaw in the front above the knee, grrr. :( So I have sent it back and there aren't anymore.

I second fashionista-ta's comment above. Love to brighten an outfit with one statement piece: jewelry, shoes, hat, scarf etc.

Thank you everyone for your input :flower:

Weather in here usually gets warmer for a while in March and then it gets cold again until late April... the one problem is that we get a lot of rain here, so open shoes are not exactly an option in November-March. I have always loved the idea of black and white brogues, however - if anyone sees a pair under 100€, feel free to pin them on my board.

Hi, which one of you has already a designer bag? I really want another one but still dont know which one.

I have a Balenciaga city, Betina has a Mulberry bayswater, Jinadaze has a Mulberry Alexa, I think Ta-ta has a bag from Lanvin, and that is all I can remember off the top of my head;) I also think Eva has quite the collection by now.

I think looking for a bag that makes you feel chic is a good starting point when looking for a bag.

I choose mine because it can be scrunched together and it is more informal/less high maintenance. Also, I prefer bags without a logo on the exterior of the bag. That was important to me. Do you know what qualities you are looking for in a bag?

A Balenciaga is my dream bag. But I think it's way too overpriced for me now. 500 euros is my budget I think.

I've a Mulberry Bayswater black and Prada Saffiano large black, both very versatile.

Eizhowa Did you see the maroon/burgundy version of the COS sweater too? Was that one pretty or not?

I don't remember seeing anything burgundy in their stores, but the one online looks nice. I bought the grey version in the sales I think. It was quite short though. I got the XS so maybe that is why it was so short.

I don't like short sweater. I am still very happy with my Mango cashmere sweater btw. For those who are fed up with their wardrobe: make an pinterest board with outfits that you (almost) exactly want to copy. And see which items you still need. I've found out that I still need:
- Coat
- Boots leather
- White silk blouse
- Black silk french cami
- Minimalistic necklace
- Wool scarf (acne)
- Figure hugging wool black dress

^Well, you also have to figure out if it works with your lifestyle:P

Do you know what color Acne scarf you want? I bought a second wool scarf that is a dark charcoal with the same dimensions and composition as my Acne scarf. I didn't want any of the Acne colors... The black was too dark and the grey too light, and the Camel one doesn't go with my color scheme right now.

The problem with that is that I rarely ever see outfits I like or that inspire me or that would work on me... Not trying to say I'm a special snowflake, but it just seems to happen that way

^I would have saved a lot of money if I could look at candids of Kate Moss or Clemence Poesy and not feel like I-NEED-THAT-COAT/BAG/etc.:innocent:

Where does your inspiration come from then, Barbaraa?

I want(ed) the Acne scarf as well. Didn't run into one so I kind of forgot about it, but the grey one looked really great (most colors did actually).
