The Acne Thread

hey this is something that's been bugging me for a while now. Say if you have tons of pimples and they have that white thing on top or are on the way to becoming white, would it pop and scar when you exfoliate? cos i wanna get rid of the dead skin and stuff but i don't want to pop it...

That tons of pimples with white things on top are much easier to remove than my painful , flare up and big acnes without anything on top that i used to have on covering most part my forehead. Can you imagine that my forehead used to be swarmed by those kinda acne ( sebaceous Cyst ) . It;s red and shiny..damn...It takes more than 2 weeks for one acne to dissapear..

My regimen now is :

Day :
Neutrogena anti acne liquid soap
Lancome Pure Focus Toner & Mosturizer

Nightly :
Neutrogena anti acne liquid soap
Retina-A cream 0,025 %

- no sugar (this includes: honny, syrup, molasse fruit-sugar, everything that tastes sweet!!!)
- no fruit
- no grains (wheat, oat, bread, pasta, rice etc. etc.)
- no yeast
- no dairy whatsoever
- no vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, mayo, thai-sauce, chili-sauce, HP-sauce etc etc.

Hmm, I might want to try this. Just curious though, what kinda of things could u eat, for breakfast lunch and dinner? I think it would be difficult to cut those things out of my diet.

Let me write my story on how I got rid of my bad and oily skin.
It all began after I lost some weight (bc. I found out I was allergic to dairy products, and therefore had to cut them out of my diet - I am naturally skinny, and losing 2-3 kg. was enough for my hormones to get confused.). My periods stopped and I quickly saw the skin which had always been perfection going bad.
I wen't to see a doctor, and she gave me Antibiotics, It helped tremendiously (sp?) and after a week my skin was yet again perfection. I was approached by a model agency and started working as a model (2 months ago).
But...after some time the acne-bacterias got resistent...buhu. and it all came back, maybe even worse than when it had first started.
My agency was pushing me to find a quick solution. I knew that birth-controll prbably would help me, but I wouldn't take the risk of confusing my body with extra hormones. Therefore I decided that I would find a more natural way of dealing with things....and if nescesarry take a break from modelling. After all, Acne is almost ALWAYS about the hormones. Inner doings.
What kinds of things do you eat on the diet? I am very interested! It sounds like I have a simmilar situation to you.
My skin just recently started breaking out so I went to my doctor and her put me on a antibiotic which worked great for a while but the bacteria grew ressistant, he gave me another perscription for a different antibiotic, but I didn't like the idea of the chance of becoming ressitaint to another antibiotic. I have recently been trying to change my diet and have been experminting to check for food allergies, one is dairy also, which I have cutting out of my diet and has helped a little. I am at a loss right now about what to do and I need to fix my skin as quick as possible.

a drop in your protein intake may help your skin out. too much protein can cause acne, and most people get more protein in a days time than they need.

also, always always always apply moisturisor after washing and/or exfoiliating your face, this way you won't get that tight painful feeling on your skin and your face won't overproduce oil to compensate for dryness. I use neutrogina spf 45 oil free sunblock day and night, it keeps my facial skin really nice.

I've never been a huge fan of topical treatments for acne. I think it makes them worse. I remember one instance where I had like four huge zits on my face that weren't going away with the dermatologist's goo, so one night I didn't use it and they'd significantly shrunken by morning. same with the pills. never did accutane (although my older sister and brother did and they both have creepily immaculate skin.) I've taken the antibiotic versions and they made my stomach hurt a lot. besides, it's good to avoid taking antibiotics unless you're really ill, too much can raise your resistance and prevent you from healing from a future malady.

as for popping and picking, I'm soo guilty of this because I'm completely compulsive and can't stand letting those buggers be. i've found if you can't avoid popping, put neosporin on the open wounds. it'll help it heal up and avoid blemish scars, and despite being greasy feeling it's never given me new zits. you'll heal faster, too.

has anyone ever had the liquid nitrogen treatment? I looooove it. the dermatologist swabs your face with LN. by the end of the day your skin is totally clear and stays like that for weeks. if I had $$$, I'd go once a month. I highly recommend it.

Just wanted to ask if anyone had been put on Roaccutane...

Its the strongest acne treatment there is. I've been on it and my lips have gotten so dry they're actually bleeding. Its gotten to the point where I have to apply lipbalm every hour at least. And my eyes are getting dry so I'm having to put eyedrops in every so often as well.

Is this normal? My doctor warned me of stuff like this, but I didn't think it would get so bad...

I've been using Neutrogena spot treatment and it works good for exactly what it says spots. You don't put it all over your face:wink: My face looks alot better after I started washing it after I go to the track, I take those disposable cleanser pads and just use one on my way home. I'm going to try Cetaphil when the cleanser I'm using now runs out. Also I'm using alpha hydroxy after I put on my toner:wink:

Thanks odelay for your advice. I dought its from too much protien though (I am a vegitarian) I think I am going to stop using all the harsh topical stuff, because its obviously not working so might as well try. I have also been trying to lots of water (more than just 8 glasses). Its hard though anybody have any tips ?

Welcome to tFS :flower:

I would suggest a series of microdermabrasion :flower:

Thank you HipKitten for the nice welcome...
how many sessions will I need for good results with the microdermabrasion??
and by how much percent will it clear up the scars??
if it is more than 50% I will go ahead....

My friend is doing this now... she said you have to have a few treatments before any results show. I can't remember how many she said though. Her skin is looking fantastic though, so it definately works :D

Be prepared for bright red skin after walking out of the salon though!

I have tried nearly every product on the market and nothing really worked for me.
Retin A was alright but it doesn't last, your skin gets use to it so it doesn't work no more. The pill also helped alot, this and a great diet.

I am also thinking of having micro-derm, just because of the blotchy skin, however being young still I am worried about the future and the thinness of the skin afterwards.

I was in the exact same position as you... you may need to go on anti-biotics. If those still don't work for you, ask your dermo about Roaccutane - I've only been on it a short while and its made a dramatic difference. And it will work, because its the strongest acne medication there is :flower:

I have been on antibiotics, they didn't work hahaha. My skin isn't great at all and while I would love to take Roaccutane (and they have offered it 3 times) I don't think I should, I don't want to ruin my body and I get stressed easily so I will prob get even worse on this. I will have to think about it again.

Can I ask you some questions, you don't have to reply if you dont want to.....How long does it take to work on mild acne? Does it take away blotchy skin?

Cheers :flower:

The Roaccutane? Hmm, I wouldn't know for mild acne as mine was bad. I was on it for a period of 16 weeks.

As for the blotchy skin, well at first it doesn't get rid of that, and you do still have red patches on your skin, which I was really worred about at first. But it does eventually go. This stuff really is amazing, it makes your skin so clear.

If anti-biotics didn't work, then I do suggest you go on this, especially as they've offered it 3 times. Remember, your skin is one of your most important and biggest organ... you don't want it to be unhealthy  Though, obviously I can't force you into it - only do it if you want to :flower:

If you do decide to take it, be sure to read all the side effects carefully. You'll need to have some blood tests taken, and this medication can give some people depression - though its rare.

Good luck with what you decide :flower:

Well mine would be bad too then as all the derms I have seen said around 5 to 6 months, I thought it wasn't bad obviously not. Maybe I should go and get my eyes checked soon.

I have had blood tests and I can actually do it, but I get stressed and upset easily(mainly because of stupid skin).... so thought maybe I will get depressed.
Also I don't like the idea because you can't workout or wax and it's nearly summer here. My hair is also weak and I have dry skin. I am not a good person for this ay.

Thanks heaps I will have to think about it more. :flower:
