The Acne Thread

has anybody tried using tea tree oil/gel for acne? I've heard mixed reviews, but that it's a good alternative for people who prefer to use organic products.

I tried the tea tree oil before, but then was strongly advised by my dermatologist to use only OIL FREE products which makes complete sense for someone with oily skin. I didn't find it helped that much. I would be interested in hearing about anyone who has used the gel and what brands make it.

The only thing keeping my skin clear...

Flaxseed Oil & Vitamin E Oil.
I take a tablespoon of flax in the morning, and one at night.
and I use Vitamin E oil in place of a moisturizer for the days when Im at home.

It seriously works wonders. And gives your skin a beautiful natural glow in all the right places. I love and swear by those two items.

Warmer water expands the pores on your face, whereas cold water contracts them. Its a good Idea to splash your face with warm water to open pores before using cleansing, then splash with cold water to tighten them.

I always splash with hot water, or steam my face before putting a mask on.
Then I will clean it with cold water.
Hope that helps :flower:

Hey, after reading through this thread, just wanted to say that there is no scientific evidence that says no dairy/no fat/ more fruits and vegies help acne... in fact nothing in the diet really shows much of anything, except water. The human body just doesn't work that way.

I think this is incorrect. I think if you give yourself a schedule and eat the same thing for a period of time, you will see a significant change. Take a car for example...your wouldn't give it oil one day and maple syrup the next, would you? As long as you feed it oil and gasoline, it will run smoothly. Also, take non Western civilizations. Studies show percentages for acne in teens in low to non. The majority of their diet is raw, unprepared food, virtually free of any additives and un-harmed with toxins un-altered by man, basically...non westernized. Raw Fish, Raw Nuts (raw as in unshelled and steamed), fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables are the way to go for a complete and healthy diet. Most western civilizations have become content and comfortable with eating horrifically "toyed" with food. Food that goes through such an extensive "preparation process" one could hardly call it food anymore. Then we turn around and complain about health problems.

Now, I am not saying having acne, zits, pimples or anything like that is YOUR fault, but it very possibly could be the potato chips you stuffed into your mouth before applying Retin-A, or taking Accutane.
What I AM saying is...Diet plays an Enormous role in the wellbeing of your skin, hair, body, and mind. Genetics may play the biggest role, but one can counteract with a REAL healthy diet.
When I was 15, I was fed up with the condition of my skin. I went to a fresh organic raw egg, nuts, and fresh fruit (I never liked vegetables), and my skin cleared up 110% and has stayed that way ever since. The desire for chips and soda wore off after about one month, and I have never felt healthier, cleaner and more aware in my life...and I am only 17.

Think about your insides. Think about the fat, and grease building up inside you with an american diet. Now think about a clean fresh diet.
Its up to you to decide.

Ah, sorry for three posts in a row.

Drinking water is a huge factor ONLY if you don't drink, then pollute, then drink again.

Water is de-toxing your body.
The more you "pollute" your body the less the water has an effect.
So its not fair to drink eight glasses of water a day while your eat a loaf of bread, ice-cream and a box of Triscuts, then say the water isn't working.
You are just frustrating the natural process.
Drinking water is to clear your body, and won't clear your skin after one days worth. Drink water, eat healthy THEN judge the results.

Do you think that at this point a facial would help..or make things worse?
noooo please stay away from facials. they're totally stressful for the skin, and many people have broken out from them. the skin like's to keep it simple, honestly. i could go on and on about why you should stay away from facials.

I never get facials any more. the extractions cause pimples, the product they use are waaaaay too oily...etc. It breaks me out so bad, it's awful.

:( That happens to alot of people. Best you can do is not stress out about it, as that will produce more.

i'm a teen and just recently my acne condition got worse (it used to be just a few bumps). i'm really confused i haven't experienced anything like this before and most of my friends don't have pimples. i tried cutting out all the bad food (dairy, wheat, etc.). there wasn't much difference. i'm just wondering: for those who stick to this diet, when you exclude the bad food, there doesn't seem to be much left to eat. is there any bread that doesn't have wheat? i can't eat much now and my family has commented that i have lost weight, which is bad as i am skinny in the first place. is more pimples just a part of growing up (i'm 15)? and do you usually get breakouts before or after your period?

how do you get the scars to fade? is zinc pills or applying evening primrose/cod liver oil effective? i'm afraid it will make it worse.

please help.
