The Acne Thread

I posted last weekend about having gone to the dermatologist who put me on Doxicycline and prescribed me Retin-A and Duac gel...

I just wanted to say I cannot believe how incredible my skin looks. Merely a week ago it was the worst I had ever seen in my life (moderate acne), and now my skin is almost completely clear...after just one week! Today my boyfriend even asked if I was wearing makeup (I'm not:wink: ) then commented how clear my skin looks. Of course, the first couple of days it burns like hell and I still have some slight peeling (barely noticable).

Anyways, my skin would have never looked this good if I hadn't gone to the dermo. No over the counter products can compare to these results!

Hey does anybody know what to do once you've popped a pimple? Are you supposed to put pimple cream on it, leave it alone or ice it??

Hold a warm towel to it then ice it down. If the zit still hasn't popped on its own you may proceed to pop it yourself, but make sure you're doing it correctly.

Here's a helpful link:

After you've done that do the warm-cold process again. I usually like to apply an oitment such as Neosporin to allow it to heal quicker. Clearly, you should be doing all of this at night before bed.

Hope this helps :flower:

Ive got this bacne and its making me go nuts. i have to constantly wear stuff to cover it up and it drives me nuts because i love wearing singlets and stuff due to HOT weather.
I've heard so many things to try, phisoderm and 2% BHA and there's this website www.howtogetridofacne.com which claims their guide is great but sounds kinda dodgy to me? has anyone used it before?
And can someone pleaseee recommend me a regime? Knowing me i'll just start trying a whole bunch of products which i know isnt good if it doesnt work together.
And where can i find this 2% BHA thing online?
Thanks so muchh u fashion spot forumers ;-) kisses!

I'm so glad to hear that! That makes me really happy for you. I know, I'm a dork. Keep us posted on how your skin progresses! =]

I actually have a dermatologist appointment on Monday and I'm kinda freaked out since this is my first. I'm not sure what to expect. Ideally, I'd like to be put on Accutane but I have a friend who was put on it a few months ago and I just saw a picture of him around New Year's (maybe a little after) and his skin has gotten 12Xs worse.:( Not sure how it looks now though. I also don't know/think my insurance covers it so I may just have to settle for Retin-A. We shall see.^_^

Why do some people have clear skin and never get pimples? I don't get it. Is it something they eat? I'm ready to turn green from envy.

Thank you so much :flower: Don't be freaked out, as long as you go to a good doctor he/she will prescribe what is best. I'm sure you have probably heard this before but definately investigate Accutane before you agree to take it. Besides, Retin-A works wonders !! Good luck!

What?! You're not supposed to scrub?! Eek, I've been scrubbing my face as often as 3 times a week in the shower with these facial sea-sponge things. It actually says on the packets of them to do it twice a day, but I didn't want to go that far.

Eek. Eek, eek, eek. Ugh, but they're so good and have kept my face blackhead-free. So... what do I do?

Yeah that sounds like a bit much. Also those things are horrible. Unless you're using a new one everytime, you're just scrubbing bacteria into your pores. Those sea-sponges and loofas are bacteria growing havens.

I think it mainly has to do with genetics.

I just came home from the dermatologist this afternoon. They prescribed me a cream for in the day called Duac, Retin A micro for the night, and Yasmin birth control b/c it's supposed to clear up your skin. It's funny, in HS I had really bad skin and went on all these things and it cleared up...I was fine for years with just over the counter. Now that I'm 22 it's come back (grr). But I'm hopeful this will help again.

BTW, I really like Retin a! It works so well plus fights wrinkles as well! If any of you find OTC medicines don't work anymore I'd see about trying this

Does anyone know anything about laser treatment for acne??

There's a blue light treatment which can kill the bacteria which causes acne. The one at my derm's office is called iclear. Basically, high intensity red and blue ultraviolet light is delivered to the skin. Most people usually need 6-10 sessions depending on the severity of thier acne. One session usually costs about USD$100.

Hope this helps.

I have really bad cystic acne. My doctor doesn't want to put me on Accutane because he think's I might go into a deep depression. Has anyone been on it? Did u get any mood swings?? I am now on Minocycline pills and Clindamycin (topical).

my mom went on it with really bad acne as well, but she luckily didnt get depression or bad mood swings. and her face was perfectly cleared!! however, i have a friend who became almost bipolar after it. but that could have easily been in her genetic code, and came out with the medication.
i am scheduled to go on it in about a month, but my doctor said i would probably be fine. did your doctor mention why you might go into a deep depression?

I never had acne when I was teen, but now since my 27 year,I got a few,I used before many medecines for acne:Klinotab, tetracyclines, then Dianes 35(contraseptive),but the acne was never traeted deeply.I went last week to my dermatologue, and he gave me the most strong medecine which exists for acne "Accutane",it's called here "Roaccutane",he asked me to test it for a month,to make blood analysis, then he will see if I don't have any problem after using it.

The doctor told me that the acne problem will be resolved if the medecine is used proprely for 5-6months,but i will see the results in one month,I will tell how it works on me.

Anyone got any suggestions for an effective acne-scar removing product? They are plaguing my face and I've finally had enough of lathering on layer after layer of foundation and/or concealer on daily. Would Idealist by Estee Lauder work? I heard that it's for evening out skintone, maybe could something about scars too?

Whoa!

The doctor said that many people have depression as a side effect. There is more info on the "accutane" page on TFS. Make sure you give me updates since you're gonna be going on it:flower:. Good luck! Hope you get beautiful results.

Thankyou :flower: you don't happen to know if it actually works?? that's a lot of money!!! (although I would pay if I knew for sure that it would get rid of acne forever!)
