The Acne Thread

Would like to know this too, I've got quiet a few marks left from acne. But my derm said there's nothing I can do about it, but I don't believe him.

I found that a product called Bio-Oil I got from the chemist really reduced my marks left from acne. It's very cheap and all natural so it's definately worth a try :flower:

Mederma works wonderfully. You can buy it at CVS, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

The bleaching creams definitely help, containing hydroquinone (2%) or hydroquinone free with kojic acid, azelaic acid and I dont know what else, and they "wash out " the hyperpigmentation you have, mostly by "killing" some melanocytes you have or blocking the enzymes they use, but somehow I am not for that option. I am more a mild peel option (you have more benefits from it), AHA home done peels, and since I have the same problem I must ask again if anyone heard about Mama lotion or NuCelle Mandelic Lotion.

ya i think both peter thomas roth and DDF have something with kojic acid in it (both for sking lightning) - i think DDF is more expensive but the ingredients are pretty much the same. i used it for a couple of months and you do see some difference (not drastic though).

the thing with DDF is that after like 3-4 days it has removed all acne but your skin will get addicted and after some weeks usage the product would be useless.

So basically I've not had much success with topical treatments and am considering:

1. Birth Control
2. Tetracycline

Any experience with these?

Birth control- yes I have used this and reccomend it. I'm currently taking Yasmin. It seems to help control crazy breakouts due to hormonal changes throughout the month.

Tetracycline- Yes, I have used it, but NO i don't reccomend it. I would try a strict topical routine and changing of the diet before going back on any type of antibiotic ever again. If you do decide to use antibiotics I would suggest talking with your doctor about only using them for a short time. The health risks of using antibiotics long term just seem too risky. As a person who has taken soo many antibiotics for so long (for acne and bronchitis mostly) I am a testament to that. I can barely take them now without having other (icky) adverse reactions.

shoegal thanks for replying! Mm yes I am a bit wary of antibiotics to be honest..a bit scared..but for 3 years I have used every topical treatment there is under the sun and I'm still not clear. I think I need to try something internally now..

1. Birth control-yes, with a visible and good results
2. Antibiotics-BIG NO!

Thanks..looks like I'll try birth control, even though I don't need it for it's primary function.

yeah, ive had like 3 products from acne and all where the same, and i started a thread about DDF in another community and alot had the same reaction. So i would go for another products for acne (MD Formulations, Karin Herzog, Peter Thomas Roth, Ole Henriksen)

I use DDF Salicylwash, and i'm kinda happy with the result, after 1 year.
But I use Ole Henriksen AM and DDF PM, so not only DDF

So, for the birth control, did you guys just go and explain your situation to a regular doctor or did you go to a dermatologist? Thanks for the help:blush:

I dont know why but citrus fruits. I have been eating fruits like crazy (which I HATE -I'm more of a veggie girl) and they didnt help till I started on the oranges.

I just went to the regular doctor because they are able to prescribe the birth control straight away and they know the best types for skin problems. I'm not sure if dermatologists can prescribe them. I'm sure it will work well for you! And don't be embarrassed hehe when I asked my doctor about it she said she had skin problems when she was my age too and she has the most beautiful skin now! So there is hope hehe!:flower: My skin has improved 300% since going on the pill! Most of the time my skin is clear and I only get the occasional pimple or two at the time of the month but other than that it's lovely! Hope it works for you!:flower:

Really? I didn't have to get an exam! I'm glad I didn't hahah how freaky! I didn't think doctors made you go to the gyno before going on the pill? Lots of my friends here have gone on it and none had to go to the gyno phew LOL

kind of off topic ...okay, i had this pimple weeeeeks ago which I popped and it was really red. now it's like a scar, its really light and like outlined by this dark color. and really noticable. i know i shouldn't have picked at it! anyone know what i can do to get rid of it? thanks in advance!
