The Acne Thread

I have mild/moderate acne...well had. Now its kind of cleared up. And when i say i had mild/moderate acne i suffered it on my back too. So i tried many over-the-counter products and never saw a significant difference. So i went to my doctor and she gave me the choice of going on the pill or taking the antibiotic, 'Doxycycline'. Being only 15 i thought i was a little too young to start on the pill and so i chose to go with Doxycycline. I took that for about 4 months and washed my face religiously and followed with a small dose of Benzoyle peroxide. And yes i saw great results and other people commented too...but now 4 weeks off doxycycline i am starting to see them come back again..Does anyone know if this is what happens after antibiotics...do you have to stay on them for clear skin. I am thinking of going on the pill now that i am older (turning 17 this year) and i was wondering what you would all recommend! I'd love to hear from all you fabulous people at the fashion spot! Thanks in advance.

If I'm understanding you correctly the salon violated the first rule of acne...don't pick, pinch, or poke...I would not go back there again unless you were going to ask for your money back:p

I thought is was ok if a specialist did it....so i'm planing to go to another specialist:D but what is normal what a specialist do, too treeth your acne? thx

i've just started taking antibiotics as well, so i can't speak from personal experience, but from what i've heard after a while your body grows immune to them. so your doctor may prescribe you with another antibiotic, but the problem now, with it being summer and all, is that many of them don't react well with sun exposure, so your choices may be limited. but if birth control was an option from the beginning, then that might be the best choice.

it's amazing how if you stop picking at/popping your face how much it clears up;) it's very true

my mom would always scold me for picking at my pimples because they would get irritated and start to bleed.. but I couldn't stop -it was addicting or something! But once I finally stopped irritating my face with my dirty hands, my acne almost cleared on its own. Now I'm prqctically pimple-free but I do have some scarring from all the times I picked on my skin.

Any home-made remedies to minimize such scars?

what about differin the first time i used it it made my skin peel like crazy. now its just giving me badcystic acne. other people's expericnce?

When I used Differin, it gave my cystic acne! I broke out so much people were freaking out at my face! That sucked!

I try not to mess with the pimples but in the past if I left one alone, it almost seemed like the top layer of skin would thicken over the pimple. Then it would still be a bump but it would just stay there for like weeks. Is that the best thing to do? Even if it's alittle painful/sensitive?

yeah i know exactly what you're taking about ..when i don't pop it when it comes to a head it just remains there like a dormit little volcano FOREVER. I feel like my scars are almost as bad if not worse when i leave it alone.

^ I think so too too, I'm glad you get what I'm sayin hehe :D..I've found that if I extract the pimple, apply Desert Essense blemish stick, and dot the area with a facial mask to help dry it out...it clears up way faster than normal. But I can't take the volcano effect..gah it's sooo aggravating!

I'm thinking to buy a mask that I could use onces in a while...cuz going to a beautysallon every month would be so expensive...
What kind off mask would you recomand?
I'm 18 and and I don't get so many acne any more, but I still have some red pimples that are from acne....I want something that clear it al away!!!^_^

This is a bit weird but here goes:

My skin has to be exfoliated twice a day or else it starts to feel sort of... grime-y. Which makes me wonder, is there a way to slow down skin cell turnover? I know this is the opposite of what people usually want to do, but unless I scrub religiously every single day my pores get clogged! It's so irritating and bizarre.

There is a great solution to 'cancel' acne scars:a chemical peel made by a dermatologist. It make a beautiful skin

I have been off Doxycycline the antibiotic for about a month or so now and my acne is now coming back worse. It's terrible. I mean not dramatically worse but more so on my neck and back now. Maybe it's just that when i was on it I became used to the clear quality of my skin and now off it, it just seems worse. But I must say it only works while your on it and that isn't a good thing considering you can't stay on them long anyway. Ahhh I'm so frustrated. That may be just my experience with the antibiotic, maybe others have been better off? Any ideas?

This Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque is my absolute favorite. It is about $3.50 in drug stores and it has really worked for me. I read in a book by Rodan and Fields (makers of proactive) that you should use a masque the entire week of your period if that is when you break out the most. I tried it and it really worked and kept me clear. I would reccomend this one highly!
