The Acne Thread

I used to use cocoa butter but it gives me contact dermatitis :(

I made the switch from AHA to BHA today. AHA seemed to just fry my face. Let's hope the BHA is gentler. I got the olay lotion with it. The one in the black box. I heard BHA is good for acne, right?

has anyone used Bio-Oil on their skin and seen their red scars fade? Or is vitamin E better?

I have used Bio-Oil, but not on my face, for my stretchmarks and it really helped!

Does anyone know how to squeeze or get rid of your blackheads by yourself? I've tried, but they seem hard and they really don't want to budge.

Cleanse you face then steam it over a bowl of boiling water with a towel over your head like a tent so the steam can't escape. Hold your face about 15cm from the boiling water for 10 minutes then use tissue on each finger to try and squeeze the blackheads out. If they won't budge then leave them until the next day to do the same routine and try again. Never force the black heads or you might get scars...:flower:

^ Thanks! I'll do it after I get out of the shower tonight so they'll be even more likely to soften up. I hope I can get rid of them, they disgust me :yuk:

cheer up! i bet people dont even notice them (i know everyone says that but i think its actually true). Blackheads are better than big zits anyway.

eurofashionjunkie..should you pu anything on after squeezing the blackhgeads so u dont get little holes? lol

^ Yes toner, but don't rub, just pad it on with a cotton pad. Also when you finished after steaming your face and trying to squeeze the blackheads out, wash your face with cold water to close the pores.

I hate my skin. I HATE IT. I'm not sure if it's exacerbated by stress but lately it's been so terrible. I get big lumps all over my forehead that have pus deep down inside (no obvious head). I also get raised blackheads (open comedones?) and I squeeze them and then they become infected. I always say to people DON'T SQUEEZE, IT DOESN'T HELP. And it's totally true. But I can't help myself. I see my skin in the mirror, I see it in reflections, I feel the lumps and dryness with my fingers and I just get out the blackhead squeezer and try to annihilate the buggers. And of course it just hurts and then it gets re-infected for about 2 weeks while I repeat the same process, hoping that either it will make everything go away and have perfect Natalie Portman skin, or that at least I'll get an explosion out of one of them (I'm addicted to squeezing spots, especially ones that have no head, cyst-like). And so I just feel worse and worse about myself, I have zillions of inflamed and regular blackheads, i have wrinkles on my forehead. I look old and tired and I can't afford any skin care. I can't even afford new clothes. My jeans are 6 years old and have massive tears in the knees. Anyway off topic.

My skin is making me miserable, it makes me look haggard, I can't ignore it. Nothing makes it better. I give up. All skin care is a pile of hooey. :(

^go to your GP/dermatologist and ask to be put on Roaccutane/Accutane. From what you've described it sounds like it's about time you did. Don't know if you've heard of it but its the strongest medication you can be put on for your skin and if it doesnt calm your acne then nothing will. Obviously i havent seen your skin and I'm not a doctor so I cant tell you what to do but definitely go to see someone about it. And stop squeezing your pimples!

Have anyone here experience with applying dilluted apple cider vinegar on redmarks? I have tried it and it works great on my skin! It's natural, cheap and easy:

1 dl ACV
3-6 dl water

Use a cotton pad to apply it on areas with redmarks. They will -if you're lucky - fade after a week or more using this stuff. It's worth a try. :)

I can't afford a dermatologist. $$$$$

You have to be sent by your GP and unfortunately my GP thinks I have good skin. So it's never going to happen.

i did the blackhead thing.. its looking good! my poor nose hurts though lol..thanks EUROFASHIONJUNKI

perfect^ i was just going to ask how often i should do it because i can definetly see my skin getting irritated ... thankU

I have big zits AND thousands of blackheads :(

^yep honestly I used to have really bad skin (i still have the red scarring :( ) and going to see my GP is the only way I could have got rid of it. Waiting at home for something to happen and depending on a face wash to help really won't do anything if you have full-on acne.

I've seen many dermatologists but nothing helped. Now I'd like to see another one (I'd like to try roaccutane) but I've already spent so much time...I'm too annoyed

^ That's how it went with me too. I have gone to four dermatologists, and it was the last one that helped (she prescribed me Roaccutane). Don't give up.
