In my case there were minimal side effects, only dry skin and lips. The lips weren't so bad as I had heared and my dry skin improved with moisturizing twice a day. My dermo put me on a quite a low dose 30mg, so the side effects wouldn't be so bad but it took me more time to get rid of it, which wasn't really a problem, if I have lived with acne so long, I can wait for another month.
Trust your doctor and the drug isn't really that bad, living with acne on the other hand is.

hmm... I think a low dose would also be what the derm would prescribe me.... cos it's not like I have severe acne... but first i'm gonna stick out the regimen I'm on now (adoxa antibiotics, benzaclin and tazorac)

Update: I'm really sorry to all that were cheering me on, but I gave up on the Differin. It was making my skin so horrible. I went back to Benzyclin gel at night (and using Cleocin-T wipes and taking Dynacin orally) and now my skin is perfect again after a week and a half.

congrats! thats so great! just one question tho, if you skin was perfect to begin with, why'd you go on differin?? But I'm so glad you found what works for yoU!!!

For my own experience, I can tell you the Best thing (imo) to stop and treat acne is Aloe Gel, and a lot of Hygiene. It really works!

I used: Gel Nettoyant- Normaderm Vichy (to clean my face), Tone 2 (Clinique) and a moisturizer Aloe Vera gel for 2 months and my skin is now Great.

Yes. as I mentioned before I took (and am still taking) Diane 35/Dianette. after a year it really cleared up my skin. it was great (unfortunatly it got messed up again wheb I moved to America (CA)....maybe hormones in American food.or the polution in the air....)

Are they kind of large and hard ? If they are they are prabably cysts. You can go to the dermo and get them injected and they go away in a day or two. The acne creams like retin a micro, differin, bencaclin, metalgel, etc, are supposed to treat them as well but none have worked for me.

Acne laser

I am new to the forum and I saw this and just had to put in my input. I have had acne for years and after being on amoxicillin for 2 years with clear skin, my body became immuned to the antibiotic and my acne has flared up again. Things haven't been working lately and I get a lot of blackheads and bumps on my chin, cheeks, and temples. Recently, I have been put on septra ds as an antibiotic and tazorac to use at night. In addition I am getting acne laser done every 2 weeks to help with the regime. So far it is working great! My skin is soooo smooth and the blackheads are clearing up and my face is not so red.

For anyone that does not know about this procedure, what it does is destroys the bacteria in your sebacious glands with a laser and there is a total of about 6 treatments depending on how severe your acne is. Each time you get the treatment, your glands should get smaller and become more dry like what accutane would do. So if anyone is scared of taking accutane this is a great alternative! My derm had suggested accutane also but I opted for the acne laser first and I am loving it. It is suppose to help reduce oil as well!

I would love to have that done but isn't it really expensive and not covered by insurance?

Well, it was fine about six months ago, and then started going crazy. I think it was hormones and stress. Stress because of my job and hormones because I went off of the depro-provera shot and was trying different variations of the pill (but was having really bad side effects). My face went CRAZY!

I've heard such raves about 2.5% Benzoyl peroxide, especially on acne.org (They were raving about it so much, that I almost felt like I was undergoing a mild brainwashing session ) Soooo as I'm easily manipulated, I went out and bought a spot medication containing 2.5% BP, after using it for a week now, it doesn't seem to be working on my spots at all. They're still as juicy as they were. Should I carry on with it? Can anyone recommend me a more effective medication? Gemma Ward uses Origin's spot gel thing, but it gets quite low ratings on MUA so I'm having doubts...

^Same here. . . BP does nothing for me except dry out my skin.
I use the Orgins Spot Remover also and it worked really well for me. I tried clean and clear which actually has 1% more salicylic acid than Orgins, but it did nothing. So, I highly recommed. But, if your acne is a bit more severe (such as mine) I would use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer to help combat it.
Either way, I really like Orgins!

Yes! Rose Mosqueta oil (from the Peruvian Andes/ or Chile) aka Rose Hip Oil.
It has strong fatty oils and is practically 100% Vitamin E.
Its Fantastic, Use it for a month and you will see a HUGE difference.
Very effective even for 'ice pick scars'. Usually the natural products are the best. I have always used Homemade remedies and natural herbs rather than scented pretty bottled creams.

If you've ever found that your skin feels extra sensitive as a result of too much product (or the wrong products) and it feels rashy and irritated, I highly reccomend soaking your face in lukewarm water and gently removing the products then applying a layer of good old vaseline. It works great!

Other than that, just talk to your dermo about products that may work for you If you have pretty bad acne, you may want to consider accutane.

no.. but ive heard that neosporin is really amazing for healing scars and helping the colouring.. its an antibiotic cream, designed for healing scars faster, but its been proved to work on acne scars as well! on healthboards.com, there's a couple of threads based on neosporin, which have many success stories... some even make it seem like themiracle cream. i dont know, its worth a try since its quite cheap,and you can find it at drugstores. im finally going to go buy my own bottle today... ill keep you updated, if you like
