The Acne Thread

Was looking at pictures of me earlier this year at summertime and my skin was terrible!! I realised how much of my confidence ance has taken away from me :( I have no spots at all now though (although I do have scars/blotchy red bits). I took Roaccutane and would seriously recommend it to anyone who's had acne for a while and it's bringing them down. I know exactly how you feel but I feel so much better now about myself. I hope no one's feeling crap about themselves just because of acne. It sucks.

^ I looked at pics of me when I was a teenager and didn't know how bad it was until it cleared.

PS: Dry skin can cause Acne because your dry skin will make more oil than necessary .....

xx

I'm so sad because I went out and bought that AcneFree fade scar set and I don't think it's working :-(. I've only been a couple of days but I odn't really see any differences. I'm thinking I might have to get microdermabrasion to blast this stuff off my face.

A couple of days? Wait a little longer sweety....perhaps 28 days of using it?

I have been using
Panoxyl_10_Acnegel_40g.jpg
for the last week and my skin looks amazing.

I don't usually have terrible acne on my face, I bought the stuff for my back. Not only is my back much better, my face is completely clear!

The only thing is that it really does dry out your face, so I would not reccomend applying it in the daytime.

^I tried PanOxyl and it was the worst thing ever! My whole face dried and hardened, like the dry skin on your feet. It was a nightmare!

My skin doesnt react to face treatments, washes, etc at all - it stays the same whether I use things or not. I dont have bad skin all the time so its not a huge problem but its just annoying because I cant do anything when I get a spot other than cover it

My skin seems to getting better! :woot: I never really had a lot of acne but I've had enough for it bother me and now I've been taking this medicine called Doxycycline which is working! Finally!

i've been reading this thread and it's quite informative :flower:

i've never really had acne, though i do have break outs every now and then. my problem is that i have little break outs on my forehead area. i thought one of the reasons was because i had frontal bangs, so the contact between my hair and my oily skin made it worse. but then i realize that there was one time of the year were it got worse: summer.

does anyone recommend anything for this?

Wash your face more often in the summer and use a product that contains Salicylic Acid.

i wash it at least once a day, but i started washing it more often to see if there was any improvement.
i'm gonna try and look for a product with Salicylic Acid and tell you how it went
thanks a lot :flower:

!!!! I'm having a sort of revelation about my acne, I hope.

Everyone in my family has stubborn teen and adult acne. I tried Proactiv once, and I stopped breaking out right away and it was soo awesome. It gave me a sense of entitlement about clear skin, which, having acne for so long, you just learn to live without.

Then it stopped working for me and my face broke out all over again. :( So I started experimenting. I tried Cetaphil's cleanser along with other things..biore, neutrogena, etc.. It only kept my acne sort of at bay, but for a long while I somehow thought I should just live with it.

Theeen came the soap and water thread. Having nothing to lose, and it sounding perfectly wonderful, I gave it a go that morning. I tried it with Cetaphil's Soap Bar, which is so much different than the cleanser. It's given me the same results as when I started using Proactiv, just a lot more simple. When I don't break out for one day, I know something's seriously up. But I haven't broken out in almost three days. (Except that last night, after I used a stupid mask which did nothing but irritate me. But the pimples are incredibly mild.) I even looked at my forehead this morning and my miniature battlefield for a forehead is almost completely clear. I don't even use any acne creams, just a matte moisturizer.

I really hope this keeps working for me, and that I'm not jumping the gun a little. If you're desperate though, atleast give it a try. I hope it would work for everyone who's fed up. :( If not,

Think about this. Three things can happen when you use no treatment on your acne.

1. It gets better.
2. It gets worse.
3. It stays the same.

When you use a treatment product like Proactive (or cetaphil or soap) three things can happen

1. It gets better.
2. It gets worse.
3. It stays the same.

So, you have no way of knowing what is really working or what isn't. Most research would say that things with salicylic acid (or benzoyl peroxide) in it work the best. But even those things don't work. Sometimes, it's just best to cover it up with good makeup and wait 'til it goes away.

^^:ermm: I never appriciate it:huh:

I have been using cetaphil cleanser with a little bit of MyChelle cranberry cleanser mixed with it as well.... I bought the Cetaphil Antibacterial Bar Soap yesterday at the store, I love the smell and that it's gentle. I'm gonna continue using it and we'll see how well it continues to work^_^

Thank you to whoever recommended the Sea Salt mask/wash!
I found a good direction from a member (amystar) on Make up Alley.

Have you got problem skin?
Ever gone on a beach holiday and come back with great skin and not know why?
Its because of the sea water!
Try this once every two days for a fortnight and see how you go.
Mix half a teaspoon of sea salt (you can get it from the supermarket) with 1oz. of water
Then take a cotton ball and gently dab on entire face after cleansing
Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and gently wash off with luke warm water.

To shrink a pimple you can saturate the blemished area with sea salt and leave it overnight. It'll shrink and disappear very quickly
This may sting the skin but try and tolerate it a little. If you can't stand it then wash it off straight away.
Remember to keep it away from you eyes!! It can sting if you accidentally get some in it

I'm giving this a trail, so far it's quite helpful in getting rid of black and whiteheads. Not all but enough for me see a significant difference in my skin.

My routine thus far is:
Wash with Cetaphil for sensitive skin.
Once a week or whenever needed I use Neutrogenas Acne cleanser with the salicylic acid.
Tone with Natio gentle skin toner
generally just at night - Use Living Nature Manuka oil and honey antispetic gel, helps to soothe and calm my skin.
daytime - Skinfood spf15 moisturiser for daytime. This is the only moisturiser that doesn't make my face oily after use.

So far it is helping, but I'm keen on trailing birth control to help alongside my routine. It's been really depressing me having suffered a year with severe acne :(.

^ It was me, I also found out because after coming out of the sea my skin would clear....

does anyone wash their skin regularly with salt water? I'm just curious of the lasting effects... Right now (on the side) I started using Neutrogena's Advanced Solutions Acne Mark Fading Peel and also their microdermabrasion kit, I don't want to jump the gun yet but I think it's working.. We'll see though;) ^_^ I have a big event next month so I want to fade any old marks as much as possible before then

The best thing that i've found to get rid of spots (and ive tried pretty much all the alternatives) is to dab Superdrug's antiseptic cream onto the offending area before I go to bed. It's gentle enough for my sensitive skin and cheap cheap cheap!!

I have found out a lot of good things about using sea salt for acne. In particular I found that Dead Sea Salt may be even better than regular salt.

Since BOKEK Dead Sea Salts have a high sulfur content they are useful in the cleansing required to purify the skin of acne sufferers.
(from saltworks.us)
But of course Dead Sea Salt will be more expensive since it is from Israel^_^

As far as the face is concerned, the routine that heykitty posted seems pretty good, and I just tried it myself. But for people who have acne on their back or chest, I found that bathing in the sea salt is great! Here is a link to a good thread from acne.org, and there are many people who say it works wonders!http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php?showtopic=86369
