The Acne Thread

I actually had a real glycolic done yesterday and my skin is noticeably improved. I'm going to wait a month and definitely have another.

is there a separate thread on proactiv?..i started using it again after 3-4 years and i must say i'm impressed..last time i used it i didn't follow the exact routine because the claenser used to burn me like hell and i always skipped the toner..but recently when i experienced an awful flare up i used the regimen correctly and my skin is 98% clear in just a few days..and i'm talking cystic acne zits..no whiteheads..i shall continue and report back!:flower:

What to never use:
Clarin beauty flash balm.

I'm telling you right now it clogs your pores!! Big time!!
Its ok if you use it as a mask but if you use it as a makeup primer DONT it clogs your pores reall really badly!!

Oh I second you on that!
I got these huge red underskin pimples, so I threw it away instantly.

not extremely well but way better than dermalogica which was mediocre at best for its money..

has anyone seen the knockoff versions of proactiv in shoppers drugmart and walmart?

are they any good? they run for around 25$.

I dont know if its already been mentioned but my life saver was a product called fresh framacy from lush (www.lush.co.uk) it was one of the first products I baught there and id wonders for my skin. I'd reccomend using it for a couple of weeks though before you judge its effectiveness..

Does anybody have a list of foods/liquids which cause break-outs? I've found that vinegar causes me to have break-outs over periods of times and act as a trigger.
On the same note, what foods can help prevent a break-out?

Besides eating refreshing food, like cucumbers and fruits, there's really nothing you can eat to prevent breakouts. Avoiding junk for (for me at least) helps subsides breakouts.

A little off topic, but maybe someone might appreciate this, but if you feel a pimple coming up, there's a method you use to heal it quicker. So, before you wash your face, as you do everyday (I hope) try the following:

1. Boil water with Epson Salt and soak a washcloth. It'll draw out your zit to a head and the salt will kill the bacteria.
2. Steep a bag of black tea then put it on your problem spot and it should draw out a head even more.
3. Wash your face as you would normally would and moisturize.
4. Then put spot treatment on your zit and it should look much better the next day. Drawing out your zits helps the benzoyl peroxide penetrate the zit more.

It's a good remedy for last minute healing. Hope that helps!

Thanks Raych! :) I never heard of using black tea before for pimple treatment, but does green tea help as much? I might try this out tonight with a spot on my chin. :P

what do you guys do for whiteheads? I cleanse regiously, do masks every week, etc, yet I always get teeny tiny little whiteheads on my face :ermm:

As for foods being linked to breakouts, I think it's a very personal experience. What might break out one person may not break out another. That being said, I've noticed that my skin reacts VERY badly to any type of nut...peanut butter, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, almonds...anything. It's really sad because I LOVE nuts and I don't eat meat so nuts are a great source of protein.

I know the feeling! For me, Vinegar will usually result in the grossest matters. I love putting red wine vinegar and olive oil with my salads. The next day, I get a feeling of moisture on my cheek, won't think anything of it until the afternoon I feel a pimple nearly half an inch wide break up and swell up. Without anything proper, it hurts so bad to pop as well. I try not to pop them, but in the long run, it's just like not popping bubble wrap.

No wonder the kids love me. :D

I have a large problem with black heads as well. No matter how hard I try, they're there and I can't get rid of them, and it makes the pores stand out as a dark little spot. Ugh, I hate dealing with oily skin. When does it ever stop?

For white heads, I have an amazing treatment I use called "pimple peel." The tube is very small, and you put it on in two steps. After 2 days time, the pimple just peels right off and is gone. It's like good magic. :)

:) I swear it works like a charm. I had a zit on my right cheek, that after I used it just one time, it peeled away within two days time. It's so easy, and it makes it look so much more gorgeous underneath. I always worry about scarring or bumps that sometimes occur after pimples, but it worked so excellently that I didn't have a single one. :)

A friend gave me Origins Clear Improvement (Active charcoal mask) for Christmas and I tried it today. Works GREAT. Not only are the pores on my nose purged of any kind of debris, the rest of my face is unbelievably soft. It says to use once a week but I doubt I'll be able to go for more than a few days without wanting to use this again. DEFINITELY recommend.

Thanks Raych! :) I never heard of using black tea before for pimple treatment, but does green tea help as much? I might try this out tonight with a spot on my chin. :P

No, not green tea. There's something in the black tea that helps a pimple. Did you try it yet?

I tried with Black Tea and was amazed, the pimple isn't even there. :) It was pretty nice, it actually cleared up the entire area around my face and did wonders. :) Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the tip about black tea. I have never heard that before. I'm glad to know it know so when I'm faced with a new breakout I'll have something new to try!

i broke out in a scary way at the end of holiday break...
