The Acne Thread

I've never had great skin....

I always break out on my cheeks, neck, chin, and around my lips.
Also my nose and between my eyebrows are incredibley dry whereas my forehead is always oily....

Anyway ideas what products are good for combination skin?
I've been to the doctors loads about it... I've been on the pill for 4 years almost and that didn't help but I'm on that to stop the extreme recation I have to my periods also....
I've tried creams and then this liquid stuff you blot on your skin... nothing seems to work.
I know I could perhaps have a better diet. But I don't eat masses of bad food.

Rooibos tea is great for skin!

Preliminary findings suggest that when rooibos is applied topically, it can be a beauty-enhancer.Almost 70% of acne sufferers in one study reported clearer skin when they applied it twice a day for several weeks.
Experts recommend brewing a cup of the tea, cooling it and applying to the face with a cotton ball once or twice a day. No rinsing is necessary, and the tea will not stain the skin.

It's also great to drink too ^_^

Tea is good for everything (except your teeth), I can only recommend drinking more tea because it also cleans your body.

I'm gonna try the tea thing!
I remember doing the same thing with green tea a couple of years ago, and it did seem to help a bit with the redness....

I'm using Neutrogena 2in1 face wash/mask and their Visibly Clear Hydrating Spot Treatment. No real amazing effects yet.
I'm combining it with T-Zone's spot zapping stick which is basically tea tree oil but it makes me skin shiny like plastic, especially my nose.
I'm going to have to go back to the antibiotics at this rate.

Has anyone tried Skyn Iceland? The whole concept of this product sounds really good and healthy for your skin. Just wondering if anyone have had any experience with this brand.

I've been interested in this line too, since I heard about it.

i recently waxed my arms for the first time and my upper arms (near my shoulders) broke out REALLY bad, like pimples covering that area. i really scared cause i have medium brown skin that scars really easily. ive never had problems with body acne before this, just facial, so i know this is a result of the waxing.
has this happened to anyone?
help!

There could be a number of possibilities for irritation, break-outs, and sudden changes in skin texture when it comes to waxing and a situation like yours.
Like, how long was your hair when you went to get waxed? If it wasnt 1/4 inch (not all hairs will be the same length because there are three different stages of hair growth) then it shouldnt have been waxed. The aesthetician needs to have the wax's temperature not too hot, they should test it on their wrist before putting it on you, and there should never be double dipping into the wax pot. Was your skin sanitized, wiped down before the wax was applied? If so (it should have been to prepare the hair) your skin might have reacted to that. Maybe it was the wax itself. There's also an after-wax solution applied, to soothe and just remove all traces of residue. So your skin could easily have reacted to any of these, OR the aesthetician might have been too forceful when waxing, not careful enough with the temperature, etc. For now I'd apply cool compresses of water, cool water. And clear aloe vera gel to the areas, nothing with fragrance, and not a lot of hot water on the irritated broken out areas.

the hair was a bit longer than 1/4 of an inch so dont think it was that. as for everything else, it could have been any of those. i didnt see the type of wax she used, but she did both entire arms, upper and lower and only the upper parts broke out so bad. very strange.
either way, i have learned my lesson from waxing...
and to think i was considering a brazilian!

i will try the aloe vera, thanks for the advice.

Okay I'm Zineryt which is topical. I'll see how it goes!

Have you tried this before? Because I've just come off of it after 5 weeks of use and they haven't returned ;)

In fairness I am on antibiotics but I was told it would be over 1 month before I saw any improvement and it's only been a week so far and still no spots

I would go back on Zineryt if any spots did rerturn

Mine is most likely triggered by stress a couple of months ago my skin was improving now back to square one:doh:

I think I tend to get more acne during my period. But lately I've experience these huge bumps and they are horrible, takes forever to get away, but I don't know what I should treat them with?

It does seem really effective! It stops my skin being oily too and blemishes are less and less. I haven't had any major spots *touch wood* since I've been using it.
One negative is I don't know how to continue with my usual skin routine because I'm worried products may lessen it's effects.

It sounds like a course of antibiotics would help, the spots that occur deep under the skin as bumps are usually caused by bacteria and can only be treated internally. See your GP.

I simpled my routine to the minimum, just a fragrance free cleanser and toner before applying. At night (when I had taken my make up off and was sure that had probbaly removed the last traces of zineryt) was when I would use more 'elaborate' products, like a face mask which I can't live without. I didn't moisturise at all cos I felt like that would make my skin oily but I think as you continue using it you'll feel more confident applying your usual lotions and potions ;)

If any of that makes sense at all ^_^

I've been off it for 2 weeks now and I only got my 1st 'real' spot this morning, and the antibiotics still arent supposed to have taken effect yet, yay!
