The Acne Thread

^I would say that doesn't do the skin do much harm. I didn't have any side effects at all, I don't even think my skin went red. Which is surprising once you do smell it...or have the unfortunate pleasure of tasting it!

My skin was awful, for about 18 months it got gradually worse and worse until I could physically take no more. My confidence was at rock bottom. But now it's pretty a-ok! I can go out without any make-up on (something which if you had said 6 months ago I would have cried at the thought of) and my skin would be perfect if it wasn't for the scarring. But I accept that the scars are a result of my own idiocy so I deal with them, they're fading slowly ^_^

But I am on tetracyclin tablets for another 5 weeks...when I come off of all treatment permanantly,I guess then I can judge the future of my skin

I'm going to see my doctor on Monday. I'm getting a funny feeling that I tried ZIneryt in my early teens, 4 5 years ago. It was'n bad but my skin at the moment is the worst it's ever been. So I dont see it really see it workin. A lot of people have started suggesting roaccutane, apparently i will need to have a blood test before the doctor gives me this. But its suppose to clear acne pretty uick, has anyone here tried it??

The 2 girls I know who have been on roaccutane swear they would never go on it again. It made them both very depressed and I don't know of anyone who speaks highly of it.One of my flatmates got so depressed she contemplated suicide. Try Zineryt if possible,or even antibiotics like tetracyclin, but I guess I would say roaccutane should probably be considered as a last resort

That is the main negative with roaccutan, but i'm getting really desperate...my skin is starting to get me depressed nyway....I'm going to get my doctor to look through my records to see if i have used Zineryt in the past, if I havnt i'll give it a go. If I have used it in the past, it obviously wasnt very effective, so I will have to give roaccutane a go. I need my skin sorted!

^Do you mind me asking how old you are? Because it could be hormones and might not last forever. I only went to my doctors because I had just turned 20 and realised it probably wasn't hormones any more.

diorlover, what's the apple fast?

It's something I found online, you basically eat nothing but apples for three days, its suppose to be a really good detox, and it's suppose to help your skin. I dont know if it actually worked...I did only do it for a day and a half. I woulnt recomend it for acne.....but i would for weight loss, I lost nearly 4 pounds in a day. Thats the reson I stopped it, I didnt want to lose weight!

oh okay, cos yeah i heard apples were really good for your skin. like they make it more soft.

I'm 19, I had spots during my early teens, but nothing compared to now. I have no idea why, I have a really good diet, i'm very fit. But they just wont stop, and the scars that there leaving behind are awful! I can't even imagine going out without my foundation....it's really depressing!

How do you all feel about Cetaphil?

cetaphil is a good cleanser to use. lots of people make their acne worse by using too many harsh products on their skin. that's what i did, until i went to a dermatologist. she told me to use a gentle cleanser like cetaphil and then gave me some acne Rx's.

It's strange, Cetaphil makes my skin feel so smooth and hydrated, while it makes my boyfriend's dry up. I wonder what that means

I went to see my doctor this morning, I asked her to put me n roacutane, she refused, saying I would have to try everything, before she would put me on roacutane. I told he that I knew the main side effect and I was ok with it, since my skin is making me depressed anyway. But she said there were far worse side effects like liver problems.

She put me on antibiotics, and zineryt, which I have used in my early teens, I have to try this out for six weeks. Hopefully it will help!!

^It should help you because that's exactly the treatment I was/am on ^_^ Stick with it and you should see the results, big hugs for you!

aww thanks.....i pray to god it works......I did have my heart set on roacutane....but i'm a little scared of that now. How long have you been on this tretament for? and how long before I actually see some change??

^For me on zineryt,it was instant, quite literally over night. And then each day it got better and better,no new spots were coming through and the exsisting ones were disapearing. At the end of my treatment I was spot free. I came off of Zineryt about 7 weeks ago and was scared spots would come back...they haven't. I started the anit-biotics as soon as I came off of zineryt and I'm still pretty clear. I started on 4 tablets a day,now it's down to 2. I now have 2 tiny spots, and that's it. They're not even particularly noticeable.

(Wow I just realised I wrote a lot more than I thought I would haha)

yeah, wow! that's amazing i wish i could do that but i'm too scared to even try :(

You're so lucky dumbfairy.

*sniff* :(

How are you finding zineryt?

I don't think I'm too lucky...those 2 tiny spots on my neck/chin are bigger now

But i would say though that I'm nearly blackhead free around my nose area :D Hoorah! But thats through those nose clearing strips as opposed to anything else I think.

Does anyone else know of a good way of dealing with blackheads? ONly the strips are starting to dry my nose out a little :(

have you tried bentonite clay? it's the only thing that helped for me and it did everything but dry out my skin
