The 'Authentication' Thread

its most likely authentic cos the chanel fakes are made with coloured-on gold instead of good quality gold (gold plated? is that the term?). that's y chanel bags are so rare and hard to copy. cos they use quality materials as opposed to prada's nylon bag materials.... even I can copy a prada bag if i wanted to... :/... so yea, there ARE chanel fakes but they're easy to spot cos the gold bits are usually faded... which is why alot of times, they don't even bother producing copies...

hi there, i found this at an antique store but cant tell 100% if its real. the quilted part is black lambskin backed in a faux leather on the inside. although it has the CC's on it, there is not stamp or anything. to me it looks like a vintage piece, what do you think??

if its from an actual department store (of which reputation you can verify), then its most likely real. but if its from some random private seller, its most likely fake.

just remember. the point of fakes is to sell it to the discerning customer for cheap (so they can pretend to be rich). so they'd do everything to keep the costs down (using faux fur, mass production instead of hand stitching etc etc) - the point is for the product to LOOK the same... it doesn't have to BE the same

...though u can get very good quality fake goods where they don't save on material costs... i heard that in korea, there's this lady that uses the best materials and handmakes the fake goods and even gives u the dustbags and the paperbag. down to every last detail. u pay about 30% of what the bag would retail for, which is not a huge saving, but its still significant

Just to add quickly to this thread - Did you know that eBay are now targetting boutiques and designers and giving them free training courses to show them how to sell their old stock on eBay? I have seen them at several fashion trade shows this year and there have been articles in the trade press.

There are genuine articles for sale on ebay (I got a Chloe bracelet bag and a Stella McCartney bag on Ebay, both genuine).

Just be very careful to check and compare with what's in store if you can. Spend time in the boutiques and get to know what a genuine item looks like and how it is finished before you dip your toes into the eBay lake.

Fake Comme des Garcons? ...I never thought I'd see the day

I never believed anyone would bother with such a niche designer, but this looks to be either a fake or a licensed-manufacturing line. But as far as I know, CdG has never licensed a Monsieur suiting line. Anyone have any info on this? Is it maybe from a point in CdG history I'm too young to remember?

^Baron, where's the piece located? I look on the Japanese Yahoo Auctions alot, and they do that all the time, sell fake CdG. And even, what we Westerners might consider as an underground line in Under Cover or even Bernhard Willhelm,in Japan it too has got alot of fake-sters out there.

You got to watch yourself when browsing for relatively high-calibre designers....usually it's those with such a following that renders knock-off's. CdG is no exception. Nor is MMM.

^do you have any tips for this? like with tags or certian sellers? i guess i look at cdg and bernhard willhelm the most on there but sometimes lutz or chalayan. i have purchased three things from japanese auctions (one still in transit), but the cdg seemed real enough. i'm a little less sure about the bernhard, but i don't think the item i got is that worth it to fake... i hope not anyway  :cry:

Well, I don't follow Yahoo Japan or eBay Japan, but here are a few tips for buying from the English-language version of these sites:

1) If the seller is based in Thailand or Singapore, that's generally a red flag. If they're in Hong Kong, it's more of a pink flag - I've found some good sellers with authentic goods, but I've also seen some horrendous fakes from sellers based in Hong Kong.

2) If there's a Buy It Now price and that price is insanely cheap for the item (e.g. a "New With Tags Prada Dress Shirt" for $50 Buy It Now), that's a red flag.

3) If the seller is using the same exact photos you've seen for the same or similar item from a different seller, that's a red flag.

4) If the seller says "tags have been removed" about something for which there's no good reason why it would be removed, that's a red flag.

Beyond that, your best resource is education. Know the labels you like well - know what lines they have made and when, and know what the labels attached to the clothing should look like. e.g. There was a rash of fake CdG Shirt / Fred Perry bags a while back, but they were easily identifiable because the font spacing of the CdG logo looked completely wrong.

hy guys, I've found these Joe's jeans on Ebay, do you think they're authentic?thank you!!:p

Has anybody ordered from them before?

Is this a fake Chanel bag? Please help...

I just received this bag, but I suspect it might be fake. Can you please take a look and let me know if it's authentic?

Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6812142948&ru=http://search.ebay.com:80/6812142948_W0QQfromZR40QQfviZ1
Here are photos I took:

The overall quality is good, and the auth # on the sticker match the card. My big concern is the stitched CC logo on the inside of the bag. The stitching only runs along the outside of the CC's.

Has anyone ever seen this before? The seller said Chanel bags made in Italy (like this one) may have variations from those made in France. Is this true, and if so, is this one of them?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Aloha,

sassygirl, we have a separate thread for bag authentication...you'll probably find a savvy bag expert there who can let you know for certain. It's called "Is this bag Fake/Authentic??" I know nothing about bag authentication, but I can tell you this much - this auction has none of the usual red flags that make me think "fake". The seller is a very low-volume seller based in the US, with perfect feedback and a long history on eBay. The final price is a fair price for a genuine bag, and I think you can feel good about having paid it, because it's almost certainly genuine. The bag experts should be able to tell you for sure, though.

I've never ordered from them, but I checked out a few items from labels I own, and the stuff looks authentic to me. The prices are typical prices, and none of these are labels that have restricted availability online, so unlike something like Louis Vuitton, it's perfectly normal to see these labels for sale on a site like this. Most of these are lesser-known American labels that wouldn't be worth faking, anyway.

I suggest buying something relatively inexpensive to see what their shipping and customer service is like, and if it goes well, then by all means give them your custom.
