I have a quick, naive question. I saw a top today - worn by a friend - which looked very marc by marc, and she said it was - but I could not find it in any of the shows.

NOw, this pic is obviously a fake from China, but this is what her top looked like.

Do designers sell pieces that they don't show? Or is she s BIG LIAR?! haha
I'm just curious b/c I wouldn't mind having this top.

of course designers sell pieces they dont show. they only show about 30-50 looks, and a brand, especially one that is mass produced like marc x marc they need more diversity. of course, they also show things they dont produce as well (in the case of the shoes i was looking for it seems)

on of my favorite marc x mj things is a dress i wore to my winter formal that wasnt shown on the runway

I've recently purchased a few MJ items off ebay and I'm suspecting they are fakes now :S

Here are a few pitfalls:

1. Did MJ actually design it? Check Style.com for runway pics. I recently saw a "Chloe" dress that actually a Versace design.

2. Are the fabrics super cheap? I have heard Qualms about MJ's quality, however crappy 2 cent a meter lace will not be on a £1000 dress.

3. Read feedback *including the positive* Positives may say, "love the dress, I think it is fake, oh well!"

4. Check the seller's English, it should be good if they claim they are in California. And watch for claims that the dress is a "prototype" or may not match the dresses in the shops.

5. Finally, if the seller has 100 of the same dress, all starting at 19.99, yeah, it's probably fake.

femme_fatale - I am pretty sure the Chanel is real. I've bought from this guy before (rag_nation, right?). He is actually very sweet. So, unless he was decieved himself, it's real. If you are in New York, you can check it in person - he has a loft on U.Square out of which he operates.

My opinion is that it could be, but most likely isn't. But, I would be one of the last people to ask here about that. Maybe when she said "very marc by marc" that she meant it's a piece of clothing that has the style or look of Marc by Marc Jacobs... or did she only actually say "marc by marc."

maybe it's the high school-er in me, but people lie about wearing designer stuff sounding very pretentious
