The Blonde Hair Thread #2

My hair is really porous, I think porosity has a lot to do with it when it comes to Manic Panic, the ends, which were very porous at the time when I was really going for white blonde, they came out purple. It was definitely a platinum to purple ombre effect happening, except not so nice. That faded after a few shampoos. I used to use the Jhirmack purple shampoo, but I did find it to be rather drying.

hey there! I've had bleached blonde hair for a pretty long time now and it's taken me quite awhile to get the right products down pat, but I can honestly say that using a purple shampoo has done soooo much more for my hair than a toner, I just use AG silver lights shampoo and it makes my hair the most beautiful white shade:heart: and if it comes out a little too silvery all it takes is another shampoo with regular shampoo to get it back to a less silver color, toner can also be very drying, unless you use the manic panic toner (which in my opinion did absolutely nothing to my hair, pointless!), wheres as the purple shampoo is actually quite moisturizing^_^

I have a purple shampoo, but I find it makes my hair more silver than white.

I like John Freida sheer blonde line a lot, but in NYC that stuff costs like, $8 a bottle which is too much for shampoo in my opinion. I like to just use the cheapest shampoos possible and try to deep condition if I think it's getting dry.

This is my 'stash' of shampoo though. I think I need to use up a few bottles before I buy any more hair stuff at all.

Haha this could be my shampoo armory too! :D
I got so many products but I never finish them before I get new ones... we should all take a picture

oh that's unfortunate, perhaps you should try a toner that is more on the blue side rather than purple:unsure:

holy dauphine!! And I thought my hair supply collection was out of control!

I think my collection is as big as yours :innocent:. I should really quit buying stuff.

on the manic panic and other toners: i bleach my girlfriend's hair at home (she has a pixie and is naturally pretty light so there's no issue with me doing it myself every 6 weeks, super easy) and we use the manic panic virgin snow and it DOES turn the more bleached bits a little bit purple if left on too long....i've also had mixed results with it depending on how it's used -- it has very specific weird instructions (put on ends, comb through until foamy, let sit 30 min) which i think has a lot to do with activating it, because slathering it on without the whole comb-til-foamy thing doesn't seem to work quite as well?

i kind of like the weird purple-white ombre it creates on her hair for the first few shampoos (washes out within 3 days mostly), but if it's not your thing i have also heard great things about Wella Colour Charm Ivory Lady as a good white-blonde that has less of that purple tint, though it does need to be mixed with developer which is more complicated -- and probably stronger -- than the manic panic.

here is her hair before and after the manic panic toner... you can see the weird ombre a little bit but i think it sort of does wonders at getting the yellow out for so little money and effort. Clairol Shimmerlights as blue-white shampoo of preference too, which i think is actually for like old ladies with grey hair but it works great!

I use Ivory Lady occasionally to brighten up, it's awesome stuff.
And yeah, that is a lot of shampoo in my stash. :-/ I guess I get bored with it easily? The other thing is that I bike everywhere, so on days when it's going to be hotter, I use the volumizing shampoo so it doesn't go greasy as quickly. Once the weather cools and I am not cycling as much I may switch back to Hello Hydration - which I love to leave on overnight and rinse out in the morning, it's a very effective and cheap deep conditioning treatment for me.

ahh well that explain why manic panic didnt work for me! I didn't comb it and get it foamy I just put it on like a normal hair dye, it worked excellently on your girlfriends hair! At the Hair Supply store I go to the ivory lady or white lady stuff is REALLy popular so I'm guessing it must be a really good product, but yes anytime you use developer it is going to dry it out

@flagrantdelire i think the manic panic might somehow be oxygen-activated or something and hence all the necessary combing? it's weird stuff, it literally turns into this weird pooufy foamy mousse as you comb it...for some reason it makes sense to me for that to be what happens when it's activated/working, like how bleach + developer also gets weird and moussey as it activates? if you don't comb it like crazy while it's in the manic panic is just sort of slimy and gross and hard to wash out!

I just used that yesterday ^_^, I had it lying around for when my roots were more visible and because I want it more ashy... I had a lot of hightlights and my hair was already very light, but this colour has lightened my hair even more. I don't mind, as long as it's not yellow. Ash blonde definitely suits me a lot better. I'm also planning on going back to my natural medium ash blonde, I don't know if I will succeed though:ninja:.

My hair was ash for about a week. Then it just turned yellow again :(. I'm think I'm going to colour my hair in a shade as close to my natural hair colour as possible and just let it grow out. I'm sick of roots/damaged hair/yellowness.
Ofcourse now I have to figure out what my natural hair colour is:ninja:.

My hair turned so light when I was in Turkey...oh dear, I look like Barbie with the tan and stuff :ninja:

Where were you in Turkey? I lived in Istanbul and it was so cloudy all the time, but when I went down south for a just weekend my hair lightened up a lot!

unfortunately unlike you, my pale *** did not get any tan

I got a bottle of Clairol Shimmerlights to add to my arsenal. I love it! My hair looks so beige now.
