The Business of Magazines

It makes sense doesnt it? It's a wise move from CN to rattle down their print titles. The core of Style.com has always been digital. They probably found the magazine rivalled W.

^ As a reader of Style.com/Print this is definitely sad news as, for me, it occupied a cornerstone position in today's crowded -- and awfully identical -- media space.

It was a rarity; being a trade, general audience and mature digital publication all at once - and with reputable editors to boot. This particular advantage, its insider position, and the info-data to be gleaned from its various sites (social media included) could've been something uber exploitative for creating new, FRESH content.

Aaaaaaargh! I'm taking suggestions for other titles where I can get my tracking, reporting, and forecasting fix. :(

Huh? Vogue put the occasional non-model on covers way before Madonna was around. How do you explain Cher, Goldie Hawn, Ali McGraw, Barbra Streisand, etc.? Hell, in the 1930s the actress Miriam Hopkins had a cover!

I was obviously referring to Vogue under Anna. Reading comprehension is fundamental.

^ Hmmm yes, but so is clarity when writing. There was nothing "obvious" or specific about that statement. You point blank said that Madonna was "the very first non model cover."

Ohhh I detect Shade. Well, both statements are right tho, should mepps have said "First non-model cover under Anna's reign", then it would've made a stronger point. BUT, because the first statement, as per my comprehension, states that Madonna is the first non-model cover star of US Vogue ever, BlueOrchid makes more sense with reference to Cher ++

Which leads to the stronger point that we definitely need another Cher cover! Lol by Annie.

LOVE FROM CARA: Cara Delevingne, already a model turned actress and social-media star, now has another string to add to her bow: contributing editor.

The model has been appointed a contributing editor of Condé Nast’s Love magazine; her first task will be to guest-edit the style title’s forthcoming spring 2015 issue, which hits newsstands on Feb. 9. Katie Grand, editor in chief of Love, first shot Delevingne for the magazine in 2009, after the two were introduced by Delevingne’s godfather Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of Condé Nast U.K. Grand said she’d “always known that [Delevingne is] an exceptionally bright, sharp and hilarious young woman. That’s why I was so keen to let her have this chance to exercise her skills as a journalist and writer. And she has proven herself to be a fearless interviewer, never afraid to ask all the questions we want to know the answers to,” Grand said.

Delevingne said she “loved the experience of being on the other side, asking the questions and having more directive control.” The magazine hasn’t revealed details of who Delevingne quizzed for the issue.

For her contributor’s portrait in the spring issue, Delevingne has been shot by Sølve Sundsbø wearing a look from Givenchy’s spring 2015 collection, styled by Grand. The new role caps off Delevingne’s long-standing relationship with Love magazine. She has appeared on four of its covers since spring 2010 and, most recently, on one of its fall 2014 covers. Delevingne joins fellow model Edie Campbell as a contributing editor at Love; Campbell joined the masthead in March 2014.

I'm guessing she either interviewed kate moss or Kandall Jenner.

Call it the Anna Wintour effect: InStyle editor in chief Ariel Foxman has been promoted to editorial director of both his title and People StyleWatch.
The first big change under Foxman? StyleWatch's editor in chief Susan Kaufman, who founded the mag, has been let go. Foxman will be responsible for naming her replacement.
According to a press release, his promotion was made as part of an effort by Time Inc. to increase its "fashion footprint" on newsstands and create "a content, services and commerce platform under the InStyle umbrella." Much like Wintour at Condé Nast and Joanna Coles at Hearst, Foxman will retain his role as editor in chief of InStyle while helping direct content at his sister brand. "I am confident that Ariel’s deep understanding of the consumer, coupled with his creative vision and strong business acumen, will lead to growth and opportunity for the StyleWatch brand, as it has for InStyle," says Time Inc. executive vice president Evelyn Webster, to whom Foxman will report.
InStyle publisher Nina Lawrence will also have oversight at StyleWatch; currentStyleWatch publisher Stephanie Sladkus will retain her role.

Vogue Paris Circulation 2013/2014

OJD

From what I understand from that, the first half (Aout - Decembre) is 2013 and the second half is 2014. Interesting to see how Sophie Merceau's disastrous orange of a cover sold close to 135k and Natasha's stellar cover to 147k! And it's also interesting to see Edita's issue to only sell 95k considering how beautiful it was.

Wait, what? That VP selling chart is confusing, so the Dec/Jan 13.14 sold 260.000 copies? And August sold 259K? That is a lot for them, but I'm most likely reading it wrong....

^Oh my! I'm so sorry I didn't explain it :( Sorry!! :(

Anyway, the first column represents the number of issues printed :-) Check out Diffusion Payée France (Paid in France) and Total Étranger (International total)

^ Oh ok, thanks guys.

They are still impressive numbers for those months, and good for Natasha for selling so much!

Wish UK Vogue numbers were known!

And the fact that it slightly grew over 2010 (Carine's era) means that some viewers are attracted to Alt's vision for the magazine. And, the fact that the circulation remained the same (on average above 120k) means that they're doing a pretty good job

MissDalloway, This is the average of the British magazines for the first half of 2014. I'll try my best to search for the monthly sales :)

^ Its true, we can hate on Alt, but she is actually doing really good at the magazine.

Thanks so much for posting all of these Mon. :flower:

Always shocked how little turn over UK Bazaar has, and wow at Cosmo!
