I give Heath props though because he really dedicated himself to the role and the outcome was well done.
Hear, hear. "Dedicated" is the right word.

Designer of the YearCongratulations to ALL of our worthy winners! Thank you to our tFS forum members who voted and participated.

But it added character, you know, like a bit of a quirk or something. I wouldn't be surprised if Heath improvised that part (that'd be cool!) or maybe it was written into the movie? Anyway, he made Joker his own without ruining him and to do that with such a loved, classic villian, is highly respectable.
He used to randomly lick his lips very slightly while speaking during interviews, and for the part he exaggerated the action a lot. It wasn't actually part of the Joker's behavioral habits, but the inclusion of it definitely added a lot to the role.Eckhart is so completely underrated in this film. His portrayal of Two-Face Dent was A-MAZING. He should be receiving just as much praise as Joker, unfortunately he probably won't get as much recognition. But yeah, I thought he was flawless in the movie.
I finally saw it tonight and I gotta say, it's rare that a movie actually lives up to all the hype surrounding it.
I can't really add much to the praise that's been heaped upon Heath's Joker performance, just that his portrayal made me feel a bit like I do whenever I see Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. The character was truly disturbing in a way that most horror movies can't even manage....the fact that he made you laugh occasionally made him even more disturbing.
Aaron Eckhart was really great too, though I'm guessing that he didn't get as much praise since he really shined after he became Two-Face. I definitely want to see where they'll take that storyline in the next one (assuming that they didn't just create a character within the last 30 minutes of the film to kill him off and call it a day).
I was sitting there through most of the movie feeling nervous and on edge, and it's rare that a movie manages to make you feel what it's trying to depict.
My only complaint is that damn voice Bale uses when he's Batman, I think it takes away from how well he plays the character.

and yeah the TDK board at IMDB is full of Joker fangirls
I agree that Christian Bale went overboard with the voice this time. I didn't think that it was horrible until the end. In the last 10 minutes or so of the movie, I would sort of cringe every time he would do his batman voice.
I thought that Bale did a great acting job in the first movie, so I wonder why he overdid the voice in The Dark Knight.
