The Dark Knight

Heath put alot into his part as the Joker and it showed. I don't think I've been so captivated by a character in a movie before, every scene he was in was memorable. His acting was amazing, the voice, the way he moved, how he always licked his lips while talking lol, it was so believable!

I really liked the whole lip licking, does that sound creepy? But it added character, you know, like a bit of a quirk or something. I wouldn't be surprised if Heath improvised that part (that'd be cool!) or maybe it was written into the movie? Anyway, he made Joker his own without ruining him and to do that with such a loved, classic villian, is highly respectable. :flower:

I think Christian Bale is such a great actor but all of the performances in this movie outshined his. And I don't think it's because everyone was just better, but he just didn't have enough going on to earn him a "wow!" kind of rating, you know? Though for the material he was given, he did an outstanding job with it.

^If I remember correctly he improvised it :) He used to randomly lick his lips very slightly while speaking during interviews, and for the part he exaggerated the action a lot. It wasn't actually part of the Joker's behavioral habits, but the inclusion of it definitely added a lot to the role.

woah yesterday, i FINALLY saw this movie.
ok, when I first did hear Heath will be the Joker I just knew it will be great. I was suuuuuuuuuuper excited. and he definetly was the best part of this movie. He was acting this messed head psychopath so well but at the same time he made me laugh so hard. He was so frikin brilliant.
Like woah. I can´t say anythingelse.

Eckhart was amazing also, how his charecter changed in the movie. His charecter had the biggest changes and he did it so well.

Only thing I was dissapointed was Maggie. I did have hope that she does something bigger and have bit bigger role. But no, she was just wall rose.

Really Loved tis movie, best action for a while.

Eckhart is so completely underrated in this film. His portrayal of Two-Face Dent was A-MAZING. He should be receiving just as much praise as Joker, unfortunately he probably won't get as much recognition. But yeah, I thought he was flawless in the movie.

I agree completely - I thought Eckhart was the best actor! He played two different parts in such a convincing manner, I really wish he'd gotten more press coverage for the movies.

Actually, I thought the whole cast was phenomenal (except for Maggie Gyllenhaal, whose performance I found disappointing). I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Gary Oldman was in it (I hadn't seen any trailers before I saw the movie), and I only wish that Christian Bale had had more of an opportunity to show off his talent as an actor. It's understandable that Heath received more press than the others, but they deserved just as much attention as far as acting goes.

I thought the movie was great - it exceeded my expectations, which were fairly high to begin with.

Heath's performance was well done, yes.

It's actually kind of funny because looking back, I saw a thread when his role as the Joker was first announced. People were so disappointed - they just couldn't see him as playing this crazy villian. The things that were said when he was first cast as Joker were just plain mean but when the film came out, boy were they proven wrong. I, too, didn't think he'd be just that good, really, when you look at Heath Ledger he doesn't really scream Joker to you (though i was willing to give him a chance) but he really exceeded everybody's expectations including mine.

I finally saw it tonight and I gotta say, it's rare that a movie actually lives up to all the hype surrounding it.

I can't really add much to the praise that's been heaped upon Heath's Joker performance, just that his portrayal made me feel a bit like I do whenever I see Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. The character was truly disturbing in a way that most horror movies can't even manage....the fact that he made you laugh occasionally made him even more disturbing.

Aaron Eckhart was really great too, though I'm guessing that he didn't get as much praise since he really shined after he became Two-Face. I definitely want to see where they'll take that storyline in the next one (assuming that they didn't just create a character within the last 30 minutes of the film to kill him off and call it a day).

I was sitting there through most of the movie feeling nervous and on edge, and it's rare that a movie manages to make you feel what it's trying to depict.

My only complaint is that damn voice Bale uses when he's Batman, I think it takes away from how well he plays the character.

ETA - The score was fantastic. Bernard Hermann would be proud.

He did it in Batman Begins, but he went overboard this time around lol

I think it's pretty bad a_s...I wish I talked like that :shifty:

I agree that Christian Bale went overboard with the voice this time. I didn't think that it was horrible until the end. In the last 10 minutes or so of the movie, I would sort of cringe every time he would do his batman voice.
I thought that Bale did a great acting job in the first movie, so I wonder why he overdid the voice in The Dark Knight.

Yeah, it was tolerable in the first one. And it kind of answered that age old question of "how wouldn't (this person) recognize (blank)man's voice when they've met him before?"

Still, it's a minor complaint on my part.

ahh, I agree about the Batman voice! It sorta killed it for me, I actually did start cringing! I don't remember the first movie too well, I need to go watch it again. I would've thought that I would have remembered that voice, though!

Haha. Me too. I never really noticed it in Batman Begins but sigh, I hated his batman voice in the 2nd one.

I prefer Bruce Wayne and his multitude of Russian hotties :p

I saw this last week, and was a little wary with all the hype surrounding it. But I can honestly say I believe it lived up to everything I read about it, including Heath & his performance.

i agree that ledgers performance was great. i forgot that i was watching him and not the joker. 2 face wont come back, even in the cartoon he was a minor role, so i doubt he would come back. i hope in the next movie they bring penguin and catwoman in the picture. in fact im almost sure catwoman will be in the next one for obvious reasons...i dont wanna spoil anything.

^ I doubt if they'd put the Penguin in the next one. I remember reading somewhere that Chris Nolan said that out of all the Batman criminals the Penguin would be one of the hardest to adapt into the more real mood that they've gone in.

But with Phillip Seymour Hoffman rumoured to be playing the penguin, I can see him taking it to a whole other level... As long as he doesn't use his Capote voice :ninja:

I loved this scene
