The Etc Etc of Perfumes & Fragrances

I tried on a Serge Lutens yesterday... and I am really intrigued by the scent.. I think it might have been 'chergui', all I know is that I read limited edition on the back.. and after searching around I think that was the name..it might be my next perfume buy.

As much as I love my Hermès Ambre Narguile.. I don't want to get to the point where I don't smell it anymore. I know it's rather inevitablet though..

And as much as I love the idea of having a signature scent... I actually think there are too many nice scents out there...:woot:

Actually i'm second that. I have tried to find one and only perfume for me, but it's impossible :D:rolleyes:

Has anyone ever tried any of Tocca's perfumes? I've been debating buying Cleopatra, it smells lovely...

I recently ordered the new Chloe perfume but I am hopeing I like it. I also got Chloe Collection 2005 perfume for about $35 and it smells really pretty.

That is totally true, I planned to make Terre d'Hermes my signature scent but then I discovered Elixir des Merveilles and i just adored that too, and plus I have countless other fragrances... Damn I love perfume.

Btw, congrats on 5,000th post Annu

im thinking of trying terre d'hermes, i didnt really like chanel platinum egoiste much.

My favorites are, Baldessarini del mar, Issey Miyake pour homme, attitude by armani and armani night and dior homme all great ones, i used to only wear burberry and blue jeans when i was younger eek

Alien by thierry mughler i think is the most amazing thing ive ever smelt on a woman, not many wear it but i know exactly when someones wearing it, its intense!

I thought I was going to love Thierry Mugler-Pure Coffee. it's okay for a commercial scent, but the promises of the notes just does not live up to it..it was awfully sweet.

As the guy who I was going to buy it for said..if it was supposed to smell as coffee it must be instant coffee..

So I am looking for a scent that smells like a deep coffee..maybe a hint of wood as well.. any suggestions?

Maybe try New Haarlem by Bond No. 9? I haven't tried it myself, but I have heard good things about it. Notes include coffee, amber, cedar, lavendar and vanilla. :flower:

Bond No. 9 is really pricey, though! :(

Thank you dear Tangerine.

I'm not sure about the vanilla in it... I want something deep and dark and not really sweet.. the vanilla and lavender might make it too sweet.

But I will try it out!
And I should research a bit more.. I love the scent of espresso.. for a guy to smell like that...

Demeter's Capuccino, Espresso or Comme des Garcons' Wood Coffee maybe?
Other than those many male fragrances contain coffee as a note without the cloying sweetness....you should browse either the basenotes or the osmoz directory.

Thank you so much Godiva!

Quite a few suggestions there, and I have written them all down, hopefully I'll find a couple of them to smell this weekend.

Is there any of them you would personally recommend? I would not mind a bit of wood scent mixed into the coffee..

I need to also buy my Serge Lutens for myself.. I still have the smell on paper..and it is perfect for summer [for me that is].
I will never buy a light floral scent for summer though..

Sorry I've only tried Wood Coffee...it's really nice but I have a soft spot for all CdGs anyway. General impression on the Demeter scents was they smell pretty identical but fade quickly.
However according to the description Black Vetyver Cafe seems to meet your expectations (coffee with wood but no sugar).
Hope you'll find the right one!

So I went back to smell Chergui which I was sure was the scent I smelled before... it was not..

However I ended up with Serge Lutens-Ambre Sultan which is so deep and rich..I can't stop smelling it on my wrist. I love it.

I also got a tester for Angel pure coffee for men, I have changed my mind about it..I don't know if its just the tester though, I think it smells much better on my skin than it did on my male friend... hmm.

New Haarlem is a good coffee-ish scent, but not really coffee. But scents like that, combining coffee, spice and lavender invariably end up smelling of Old Spice on my skin (has also happened to me with SL Encens et Lavande and Gris Clair, but I want to like them so bad!).

I know that Voluspa has a coffee scent as well.

As much as I adore the top notes in Ambre Sultan, I find it fades away quickly... and I end up not smelling of anything... I don't know if its my skin... but its quite sad.

Any suggestion to scents that are like Ambre Sultan without the drydown..i want it to smell like when you first put it on..all the spices!

I found a pretty good coffee scent in Jo Malone... espresso type which is what I was after just for variety!

This week I bought ck IN2U POP by Calvin Klein. I actually came into the perfume store to buy, 'Pure White Linen Breeze' by Estée Lauder. In the summer I love the smell of fresh citrus fruits ^_^ I bought CK, because it made me think about the beach.. coming from the beach. Eventhough I like most of the containing they use in ck IN2U POP, (citrus floral juice, notes of papaya, lime zest, blackberry, plum blossom, vanilla and woods) there's something that I don't like.. a strong smell that is very present.. maybe it's the papaya.. something very exotic.. like.. coconut
I payed 44.10 euros for 100ml. thank god it's a windfall
Maybe I should try Guerlain- Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.
I just found a good Fragrance finder ^_^

^I have tried to find it but even ebay says no to me!

next I wanna smell Fancy by Jessica Simpson. I really liked her Dessert threads line, especially Cupcake.

Jessica Simpson, who as previously reported signed a fragrance deal with Parlux last year, will launch her first fragrance, Fancy Jessica Simpson, next month. According to Simpson...

"With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance, one that I could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or every day with my favorite jeans"

Ms. Simpson reportedly sought "a retro vintage look" and "a romantic and feminine scent".

The floriental fragrance was developed by perfumer Alexis Dadier, and features notes of pear, apricot nectar, red fruits, gardenia, jasmine, toasted almonds, caramel, sandalwood, vanilla crème and amber crystals
